Abstract

Intensive aquaculture of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) often encounters technical challenges due to high stocking densities, making pond design a critical factor in optimizing production. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pond shape—round tarpaulin versus rectangular concrete—on the production performance of L. vannamei cultured from PL12 to DOC50. The research was conducted at UD. Hidayah Vaname, Probolinggo, using a quantitative descriptive method and comparative approach. Six ponds were used as experimental units (three round and three rectangular), each stocked with 92,400 post-larvae. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test. The results showed that average shrimp production in rectangular ponds (227.43 kg) was higher than in round ponds (182.28 kg), although the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). These findings suggest that, under limited-scale intensive farming conditions, pond shape does not significantly affect shrimp production.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of pond shape on the production performance of Litopenaeus vannamei in an intensive aquaculture system. Six ponds were used as experimental units, consisting of three square ponds (C1, C2, C3) and three circular ponds (C4, C5, C6), each stocked with 92,400 shrimp at an initial mean body weight (MBW) of 0.018 grams. Key parameters observed included initial biomass, final production, and average harvest yield. Results showed that circular ponds yielded higher production, with an average of 894 kg, compared to square ponds with an average of 758 kg. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test confirmed data normality, while the paired sample t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between the two pond shapes (p = 0.000). The superior performance of circular ponds is attributed to more uniform water circulation, efficient feed distribution, and optimized waste management. These findings highlight the importance of pond design in enhancing the productivity of L. vannamei under intensive farming conditions.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the characteristics of shrimp waste-based shrimp paste with the addition of Kalakai leaves (Stenochlaena palustris) that was obtained in Palangka Raya. This research was using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two treatments with three replications. The parameters observed were the water content test, protein content test, fat content test, and ash content test. Furthermore, the statistical test was using the ANOVA method and the BNT test with a 5% level, it showed a real difference, and with a 1% level, it showed a very real difference. It can be concluded that the chemical characteristics that was produced by shrimp paste from shrimp waste with the addition of Kalakai leaves contained 60.18% an average water content, 1.75% protein content, 0.64% fat content, 33.49% carbohydrate content, and 3.96% ash content.

Abstract

The waters of Banda Neira in Central Maluku are known for their high marine biodiversity, including the waulang fish (Priacanthus hamrur), which holds both ecological and economic value. This study aimed to examine the length–weight relationship, gonadal maturity stages, and gonadosomatic index (GSI) as a basis for sustainable fisheries management. The research was conducted from March to April 2024 in Tanah Rata Village, Banda, using fish samples obtained from local fishers through a simple random sampling method. Collected data included total length, body weight, sex, and gonad weight, which were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that P. hamrur exhibited a negative allometric growth pattern, with b values of 1.6664 (females) and 0.9055 (males). The fish length ranged from 21 to 42.3 cm, with weights between 105 and 327 grams. The gonadal maturity stages (GMS) consisted of five reproductive development phases for both sexes. The gonadosomatic index varied from 0.075 to 2.382 in females and from 0.04 to 2.35 in males, with a tendency for GSI to increase with body size. Females generally showed higher GSI values than males, indicating a greater reproductive readiness. These findings provide important insights into the reproductive status and population dynamics of P. hamrur in Banda waters, serving as a basis for sustainable management and conservation of fishery resources.

Abstract

Indonesia has great fishery potential, especially vannamei shrimp as an export commodity with high nutritional value that must be processed hygienically. PT. XYZ applies the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system to ensure the safety and quality of frozen breaded shrimp products according to international standards. This study used a descriptive method with observation, interviews, active participation, and documentation during the research. The analysis of Critical Control Points (CCP) in the frozen breaded PDTO shrimp production at PT. XYZ is an important step in applying the second principle of HACCP to identify and control critical points to prevent physical, chemical, and biological hazards during production. Using a decision tree, PT. XYZ identified four main CCPs: raw material reception (antibiotic and sulfite content), breading area “buttermix process” (pathogenic bacterial growth), packaging (allergen labeling), and metal detecting. Each CCP has specific critical limits, systematic monitoring procedures, and corrective actions if deviations occur. The goal is to ensure product safety and quality in compliance with SNI standards and export requirements through integration of the initial five steps and seven HACCP principles, along with regular verification and documentation. PT. XYZ has successfully maintained the quality and safety of breaded PDTO shrimp products that meet domestic and international market standards.

Abstract

Guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata) is one of the freshwater ornamental fish species with high economic value, in which body color quality and intensity are the main factors determining attractiveness and market value. Color intensity in ornamental fish is influenced by natural pigments that largely cannot be synthesized endogenously and therefore must be obtained through diet. One potential source of natural pigment is purple sweet potato peel (Ipomoea batatas), which contains high levels of anthocyanins and is environmentally friendly. This study aimed to analyze the effect of purple sweet potato peel (Ipomoea batatas) solution supplementation on the color intensity of guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata). Guppy fish have high economic value, making color quality an important factor in increasing their commercial appeal. Purple sweet potato peel contains anthocyanin pigments that can be utilized as a natural colorant source in ornamental fish feed. The study was conducted for 30 days at the UMKM Perkumpulan Aquaculture Kasih Karunia Suwawa, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications, namely P0 (control without solution), P1 (5 ml/100 g feed), P2 (10 ml/100 g feed), and P3 (15 ml/100 g feed). Observed parameters included color intensity, absolute length and weight growth, survival rate (SR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and water quality. The results showed that treatment P3 produced the highest increase in color intensity compared to other treatments, although the differences were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The best FCR value was obtained in treatment P1, while the highest survival rate was observed in treatment P3. Based on these results, it can be concluded that supplementation of purple sweet potato peel solution has the potential to enhance the color intensity of guppy fish and can be utilized as an alternative natural colorant in ornamental fish culture. y.

Abstract

Catfish have strong endurance, but until now there has been no definite alternative feed so farmers tend to spend quite a lot of capital when raising seeds. This study aims to describe the right type of feed to increase the survival of catfish seeds. The research method used is a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three repetitions, In this study, the provision of feed as a treatment and measurement of weight, length, and survival as a repetition every 7 days. Data analysis conducted in this study is an experimental method. The results of this study indicate that the absolute growth rate of catfish seeds can be supported by providing silk worm feed. This result is evidenced by acquiring an absolute length value of 0.42 mm. The growth of the absolute weight of catfish seeds can be supported by providing egg yolk feed. This result is evidenced by acquiring an absolute weight value of 24 grams. The survival rate of catfish seeds can be maintained by providing Artemia sp. feed because the results of the study showed that this feed was able to maintain the survival rate of catfish seeds at a percentage of 98%.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is a popular freshwater fish that contains higher protein than some types of animal meat. Seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii) has high nutritional content such as minerals and fiber. The high nutritional content of Eucheuma cottonii as a potential functional food source in the development of food products, one of which is processed into seaweed flour which is added to catfish rolade products. The objectives of this study were to analyze the quality of dried seaweed and fresh catfish, process seaweed flour and catfish rolade and analyze the quality of seaweed flour and catfish rolade, and determine the selected formula. The results of sensory tests of dried seaweed raw materials were 8, CAW 59,65%, and water content 34,19%, Organoleptic value of fresh catfish 9. The results of seaweed flour water content 6,39%, ash content 24,52%, fat content 0,24%, protein content 2,72%, carbohydrate 66,13%, crude fiber 22,21% and and around 360,27 mPa s. The results of catfish rolade with the addition of E. cottonii flour included water content 65,90%, ash content 2,90%, fat content 2,84%, protein content 17,79%, carbohydrate 10,57%, crude fiber 0,56%, ALT 5.21 x 101 kol/g, and physical test hardness 6562,99 gf. The selected formula is catfish roulade with the addition of 3,5% E. cottonii seaweed flour.

Abstract

The handling of tuna loin, starting from the receiving process to the packaging stage (packing), is a critical series in maintaining the quality and safety of fishery products. This study aims to describe the process flow of tuna loin handling at PT Maritim Timur Perkasa, Kupang City, starting from the receipt of raw materials to the final packaging, the methods used in this study are direct observation of the production flow, interviews with operational staff, and recording the temperature conditions and handling time of each stage. The results of this study indicate that the tuna received is immediately checked for quality and trimming and retouching are carried out to separate good meat from unwanted meat. These loin pieces are then frozen in an Air Blast Freezer to a temperature of around -40 degrees Celsius, which is then packaged using food-grade materials with a quality label and production date and then stored in cold storage at a temperature of -20 degrees Celsius until the shipping process. Handling accompanied by quality control at every stage of processing and handling will provide good quality products.
