Abstract

Small-scale capture fisheries play a crucial role in coastal community livelihoods but face challenges of overexploitation and low competitiveness. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and socio-economic conditions of small-scale capture fisheries and develop sustainable management strategies in Tegal Regency. The study was descriptively and conducted in August 2023 using surveys and interviews with 60 fishers and stakeholders. Data were analyzed using the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) method. The main fishing gears were gemplo, badong, trammel net, handline, payang, and arad net, with the highest productivity (0.59 tons/trip) from gemplo. Most fishers graduated from elementary school (91.67 %) and earned moderate incomes (Rp 2.19–4.23 million). SWOT analysis showed an aggressive strategy position (Quadrant I), prioritizing port optimization for training and insurance programs, value-added development through export and cold storage, and institutional strengthening via HNSI and KUB.

Abstract

Pangasius catfish is a frelshwatelr fish that offelrs numelrous helalth belnelfits. Pangasius fish noodlels arel a modifield fish-baseld product. Thel idela for procelssing pangasius catfish into noodlels elmelrgeld duel to thel abundant production of thel fish and its rellativelly low markelt pricel. This study aims to analyzel thel addeld valuel, profit, and businelss felasibility of producing pangasius fish noodlels. Thel relselarch was conducteld at Griya Ulam-Q Outlelt, a showcasel and reltail storel for pangasius procelssing, locateld in Ngaselm District, Keldiri Relgelncy. Thel study took placel from Delcelmbelr 20l23 to January 20l24. A quantitativel delscriptivel melthod was useld, utilizing both primary and selcondary data. Primary data welrel collelcteld through intelrvielws, whilel selcondary data welrel obtaineld from rellelvant institutions such as thel Fishelriels Delpartmelnt and thel Celntral Statistics Agelncy of Keldiri Relgelncy. Relspondelnts welrel sellelcteld purposivelly baseld on thelir ability to providel rellelvant information and thelir direlct involvelmelnt in thel procelssing of moringa-baseld pangasius fish noodlels. Data analysis melthods includeld valuel-addeld analysis, cost and profit analysis, and businelss felasibility analysis. Thel relsults showeld that thel addeld valuel of moringa-baseld pangasius noodlels was IDR 37,50l0l.0l0l pelr kilogram, with a valuel-addeld ratio of 41.65%. This addeld valuel was influelnceld by output pricels, contributions from othelr inputs, and raw matelrial costs. Profit analysis indicateld a profit of IDR 55,50l0l.0l0l pelr production cyclel. Thel R/C ratio analysis yielldeld a valuel of 1.45, indicating that thel moringa-baseld pangasius fish noodlel businelss is financially felasiblel to continuel.

Abstract

Kelabau fish (Osteochilus melanopleura) is an economically important fish in South Kalimantan. The obstacle that is still often encountered in its cultivation is the low survival of the larvae produced. The aim of this study was to determine the best probiotic dose for survival of kelabau fish (O. melanopleura) larvae. This research was conducted for 3 (three) months. The place of research is the Freshwater Aquaculture Fishery Center (BPBAT) Mandiangin, Karang Intan District, South Kalimantan Province. This study used an experimental method using a complete randomized design (CRD) with three treatments and three replications. Treatment A was given dissolved organic matter in the form of probiotics 0 ml/L (as a control), treatment B was given 0.5 ml/L, treatment C was given 1 ml/L. The water used in the research containers was filled with 3 liters of water each with a water level of 15.9 cm and a stocking density of 45 larvae in each treatment. The results of the research showed that the survival rate of kelabau fish larvae in treatment A was 95.24%, treatment B was 96.03%, treatment C was 96.83%. The survival Anova test results obtained that administration of probiotic-based dissolved organic matter has no effect on survival of larvae. The results of water quality measurements for temperature and pH parameters can be said to be good for the maintenance and survival of kelabau fish larvae during observation.

Abstract

Nutrional needs in adolescents is closely related to the consumption of animal protein, which one of it is fish consumption. The diverse consumption patterns of teenagers mean that their nutrional intake is not optiomal. DKI Jakarta is a densely populated province that has large fisheries resource potentional. As a coastal area who has Kepulauan Seribu and Teluk Jakarta, Jakarta’s fisheries potential is obtained through the production of fisheries and aquaculture. In this regard, data regarding the level of fish consumption in one area is very necessary. This research aims to determine the level of fish consumption among teenagers in DKI Jakarta as well as knowledge of fish nutrition and the factors that influence the level of fish consumption among teenagers. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression analysis and descriptive analysis using the SPSS (Social Package of Statistics Software) program. The data obtained came from primary data by distributing questionnaires via Google Form which were distributed via social media. The sampling technique used in this research was cluster random sampling. Respondents totaled 360 respondents, each of whom was divided into 60 respondents in 5 municipalities and 1 district. The four factors, namely childhood eating habits, nutritional knowledge, parental income, and consumer preferences have a significant effect on the level of fish consumption among teenagers in DKI Jakarta.

Abstract

Sustainability of aquaculture enterprises requires not only good technical cultivation practices but also robust financial feasibility analysis. This study aims to analyze the financial feasibility of Nilem (Osteochilus hasselti) farming in Ciamis Regency, West Java. The research was conducted in Cipaku Sub-district, with ten aquaculture farmers selected by purposive sampling. Financial feasibility was assessed using indicators: Revenue/Cost (R/C) ratio, Break-Even Point (BEP), Payback Period, and Return on Investment (ROI). The results showed an R/C Ratio of 2 (R/C > 1), indicating that every one rupiah of cost generated two rupiahs of revenue, hence the enterprise is operationally feasible. Sales of 13,175 fish yielded revenue of Rp 1,054,000, exceeding the BEP in unit (3,819 fish) and in rupiahs (Rp 305,362), illustrating that the operation has surpassed the break-even point and is profitable. The ROI was recorded at 16 % per production cycle. Based on these three indicators, it can be concluded that Nilem aquaculture in Ciamis Regency is financially feasible and profitable. For sustainability and business development, it is recommended to conduct sensitivity analyses on fluctuations in cost and price, as well as further studies on larger-scale operations to enhance both sustainability and efficiency.

Abstract

Sponges are marine benthic invertebrates from the Porifera phylum that have bioactive compounds that can function as antibacterials. The purpose of this study was to compare the extracts of sponges of the Xetospongia sp. and Spongia sp. against pathogenic bacteria. This study was conducted in May-November 2025. Samples of sponges of the Xetospongia sp. and Spongia sp. taken from the waters of Pahawang Island were extracted using methanol, ethyl acetate and hexane. The results showed that the morphological characteristics the Xetospongia sp. had a rough body surface with a rounded shape and reddish color while the Spongia sp. type had a soft body surface with crusts and a dark black color. The yield of sponge extract using ethyl acetate was greater than using methanol and hexane. The antibacterial activity of sponge extracts against pathogenic bacteria of the Xetospongia sp. used hexane while the Spongia sp. used methanol.

Abstract

The Pelus River is one of several rivers in Banyumas Regency. The Pelus River is 20 km longand flows into the Klawing River in the Sokaraja area. Snakehead fish is an endemic fish fromAsia, which belongs to the Channidae family of fish that has high economic value. Fish biologystudies can be one of the basic references during the fish domestication process. This researchmethod is a survey with a purposive random sampling technique. There are three researchstations: upstream, middle, and downstream. At the research station there are three samplingpoints. The results of this study on the sex ratio are 1:1.9 which indicates an abnormalcomparison in the Pelus River. In the aspect of fish reproductive biology, the HSI value ofSnakehead Fish (Channa sp.) ranges from 0.76 - 1.04%, this HSI value is still relatively lowbecause it is still below 2%. The GSI value of Snakehead Fish (Channa sp.) ranges from 0.23%to 0.38%. The GSI value is still below the standard gonad maturity of 4% for fish ready tospawn. The VSI value of the Snakehead Fish (Channa sp.) ranges from 3.45% - 3.57%,meaning that the VSI value is still in a condition towards the level of gonad maturity forspawning. The HSI, GSI, and VSI values are below normal for fish, this is because at the timeof sampling the Snakehead fish had finished at the peak of fish spawning. The peak spawningof Snakehead fish occurs from December to April. The water quality of the Pelus River is stillin good condition for fish life and towards the spawning of Snakehead Fish (Channa sp.).

Abstract

The Yumina Bumina aquaponic system an indigenous innovation grounded in Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) offers a sustainable approach to Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) cultivation through the integration of water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) and the freshwater mussel Anodonta woodiana. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of four spatial configurations of A. woodiana on water quality and tilapia growth over a 30-day period. A Completely Randomized Design was employed with four treatments: (A) mussels positioned upstream of the plant unit, (B) downstream of the plant unit, (C) within the recirculation pipe, and (D) an integrated configuration combining all positions, with outcomes subjected to rigorous statistical analysis. Results indicated that although Treatment C yielded the lowest ammonia concentration (1,10 ± 0,85 mg/L), Treatment A achieved the highest daily weight gain (15.74%/day) and the lowest total dissolved solids (TDS; 388,4 ppm). Conversely, Treatment C led to the highest nitrite accumulation (3,74 mg/L) and elevated TDS levels, posing a potential risk of osmoregulatory stress in fish. No significant differences were observed in %Total N content in either tilapia or water spinach across treatments (*p* > 0.05), indicating that growth variation was primarily driven by physiological environmental stability rather than nitrogen availability. These findings confirm that positioning A. woodiana as a pre-filter upstream of the plant zone (Treatment A) establishes an optimal, gradual nutrient flow, minimizes environmental stress, and maximizes fish growth. This study provides strategic hydraulic design recommendations for sustainable, IMTA-based aquaponic systems.

Abstract

Gourami fish (Osphronemus goramy) is a freshwater commodity with high economic value and stable market demand, playing an important role in supporting community income and food security. Kemranjen Subdistrict, Banyumas Regency is known as a centre for gourami cultivation with great potential due to the availability of water resources, the experience of farmers, and government programme support. However, the development of this area still faces various obstacles such as technological limitations, fluctuations in feed prices, variations in the quality of cultivation management, environmental challenges and suboptimal digital marketing. These conditions require appropriate policy strategies to increase productivity and business sustainability. This research aims to formulate a strategy for developing the gurami farming area in Kemranjen Subdistrict through SWOT analysis to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that affect the development of the area. Primary data was collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires to 40 respondents consisting of farmers, fisheries extension workers, village officials, and the Banyumas Regency Fisheries Service. IFAS (Internal Factors Analysis Summary) and EFAS (External Factors Analysis Summary) analyses were used to determine the position of the area development strategy. The results of the study show a value of (S-W) = +0.408 and (O-T) = +0.336, placing the area in Quadrant I (aggressive strategy), which is a condition where internal strengths can be optimally utilised to seize external opportunities. The priority strategies include the application of modern cultivation technology, strengthening digital marketing, increasing human resource capacity, and sustainable environmental management. The implementation of these strategies is expected to increase the competitiveness of the gurami cultivation area and support the improvement of the welfare of farmers in Kemranjen Sub-district.

Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture faces serious challenges from disease, often triggered by environmental stressors. This research aims to analyze the correlation between weekly water pH variations and qualitative histopathological damage in the shrimp hepatopancreas. Sampling and pH measurements were conducted weekly in an intensive pond from 20 to 41 days of culture (DOC). Data analysis was performed descriptively by comparing pH values with the results of hepatopancreas wet mount observations. The results showed extreme pH fluctuations of up to 0.7 and a lowest pH value of 7.4, which is outside the ideal range for aquaculture. This condition created environmental stress that triggered detrimental physiological effects, including a decrease in immune activity. Shrimp at DOC 41 showed significant hepatopancreas damage in the form of tissue necrosis, tubule atrophy, and cellular disorganization. This damage was exacerbated by the finding of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) spores and a strong suspicion of Vibrio spp. infection. The extreme pH fluctuations acted as a triggering factor that weakened the shrimp's immune system, allowing opportunistic pathogens to thrive. The resulting hepatopancreas damage can threaten feed efficiency and the sustainability of aquaculture.
