Abstract

Background. This study evaluates the implementation of the Jaring Pengaman Sosial (JPS) program, focusing on vulnerable groups in urban and rural areas in Indonesia. Social protection policies are critical in addressing the needs of marginalized populations, especially during times of economic instability. However, the effectiveness and accessibility of such programs often vary significantly between urban and rural regions due to differences in infrastructure, administrative capacity, and socio-economic conditions. Purpose. The primary aim of this research is to assess the impact of JPS on urban and rural beneficiaries, examining differences in access to benefits, program satisfaction, and the specific challenges faced by each group. Method. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with 500 participants (250 urban and 250 rural). Data analysis revealed that urban beneficiaries had higher satisfaction rates and better access to benefits, particularly cash transfers, while rural beneficiaries faced logistical barriers, including delays in benefit distribution and limited access to information. Results. The findings highlight significant disparities in the implementation and effectiveness of social protection programs across geographic regions. Conclusion. The study concludes that tailored interventions are necessary to ensure equitable access to benefits, particularly in rural areas, and recommends improving program delivery and targeting mechanisms to better address regional needs.

Abstract

Background. Urbanization and industrial activities have increased waste generation, leading to environmental degradation and negative health impacts. Proper waste management in personal and communal spaces is critical for promoting sustainability, reducing pollution, and improving human well-being. Despite awareness campaigns, the adoption of effective waste reduction and recycling practices remains inconsistent, highlighting the need to understand factors influencing individual and community behavior toward waste management. Purpose. This study aimed to explore strategies for reducing waste in living and working spaces and to assess their impact on environmental sustainability and human health. Specifically, it investigated how organized waste management practices, recycling initiatives, and behavioral interventions contribute to creating greener and healthier environments. Method. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving surveys of 350 urban residents, observations of household and office waste management practices, and interviews with sustainability experts. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis, while qualitative responses were coded thematically to identify common practices, challenges, and motivators. Results. The findings indicate that consistent waste segregation, adoption of reusable materials, and community-led recycling programs significantly reduce environmental impact and improve perceived cleanliness and health outcomes. Educational interventions and visible waste management infrastructures were positively correlated with higher participation rates. Conclusion. Effective waste management in personal and communal spaces can substantially contribute to environmental sustainability and public health. Policy makers and educators should prioritize awareness campaigns, accessible recycling infrastructure, and behaviorally-informed strategies to enhance waste reduction practices in urban settings.

Abstract

Water-quality deterioration requires timely and reliable monitoring, yet conventional laboratory-based approaches often face limitations in cost, sampling frequency, spatial coverage, and response time, particularly in resource-constrained environments. This study aimed to design, calibrate, and validate a low-cost Internet of Things sensor instrumentation system for continuous real-time water-quality monitoring. An experimental engineering design integrated multi-parameter sensing, embedded processing, wireless communication, laboratory calibration, reference-based comparison, field validation, data-transmission assessment, and threshold-based alert evaluation. The results demonstrated strong calibration performance across monitored parameters, although field accuracy varied according to sensor type and environmental conditions. Temperature and pH exhibited comparatively stable performance, whereas turbidity and dissolved oxygen showed greater field-related measurement variability. The system maintained high data completeness and communication reliability while successfully capturing short-duration water-quality changes that periodic sampling could potentially miss. Field validation confirmed that strong laboratory calibration alone did not guarantee equivalent performance under natural environmental conditions. The study concludes that low-cost IoT instrumentation provides a promising fit-for-purpose platform for continuous surveillance, temporal pattern detection, and early warning when supported by rigorous calibration and field validation. The proposed end-to-end framework strengthens the development of scalable, reliable, and context-sensitive water-quality monitoring systems for environmental management.

Abstract

Creative writing is a fundamental component of language education because it develops creativity, communication skills, critical thinking, and expressive competence. However, Indonesian language classrooms still face challenges in fostering creative writing due to teacher-centered instruction, limited collaboration, and insufficient opportunities for students to generate, refine, and communicate original ideas. This study examined the effectiveness of collaborative writing in improving students’ creative writing skills and explored the mechanisms through which collaborative learning enhances writing performance. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design involved 320 secondary school students in a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group study. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests, repeated-measures analysis of variance, structural equation modeling, mediation, and moderation analyses. Qualitative data were obtained through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, reflective journals, and document analysis. The findings showed that collaborative writing significantly improved idea originality, narrative organization, vocabulary richness, grammatical accuracy, writing motivation, classroom engagement, and overall creative writing achievement compared with conventional instruction. Peer-feedback quality and metacognitive regulation partially mediated the relationship between collaborative writing participation and writing performance, while classroom engagement strengthened these effects. Collaborative writing therefore offers an effective pedagogical framework for enhancing creative expression, language proficiency, reflective learning, and sustainable literacy development in Indonesian language classrooms.

Abstract

Gender equality remains a contested issue in contemporary Islamic discourse because women’s rights are often interpreted through overlapping religious, legal, cultural, and historical frameworks. This study aimed to critically re-examine Islamic teachings on women’s rights and social justice by distinguishing normative revelation from juristic interpretation and lived Muslim practice. A qualitative library-research design combined textual analysis, critical hermeneutics, comparative jurisprudence, thematic coding, historical contextualization, and maq??id al-shar??ah-based ethical evaluation. The analytical corpus included selected Qur’anic passages, authenticated Prophetic traditions, classical exegetical and legal works, and contemporary gender scholarship. Results showed that primary Islamic sources strongly support women’s dignity, moral agency, legal capacity, property rights, and protection from injustice. Gender inequality appeared more prominently in historically conditioned interpretations of qiw?mah, guardianship, obedience, leadership, and differentiated family responsibilities. Justice-oriented readings emphasized reciprocity, accountability, consultation, public welfare, and freedom from harm. The study concludes that gender equality in Islam should be understood as equal human worth, equitable access to rights, and fair responsibility rather than identical social roles.
