Abstract

Mataram City, the capital city of West Nusa Tenggara Province, is experiencing rapid development which has an impact on increasing noise in urban areas. This study aims to analyze the ability of vegetation to reduce noise in the Udayana Urban Forest. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method, with location selection using purposive sampling. Noise reduction measurements using a Sound Level Meter at four observation points with variations in canopy cover and the distance variable of vegetation from the noise source. This study shows that vegetation has an essential role in reducing noise, with a noise level reduction value in the open dominance area of the eastern area of 8.2 dBA and the western area of 8.7 dBA. At a sparse vegetation density level, a decrease of 6 dBA in the western and eastern areas is constant. At a moderate vegetation density level, a decrease of 4.5 dBA in the western and eastern areas, the noise value is constant. In vegetation with high/dense density, there was a decrease of 5.9 dBA in the eastern and western areas of 7.1 dBA. Based on the distance variable, noise reduction in the open dominance area decreased by 6.1 dBA in the eastern area and 6.7 dBA in the western area. In areas with sparse vegetation density, there was a decrease of 6.8 dBA in the East and 6 6.0 dBA in the West. For moderate vegetation density, there was a decrease of 6.4 dBA in the East and 6.1 dBA in the West. In areas with high/dense vegetation density, there was a decrease of 3.6 dBA in the East and 4.4 dBA in the West. The regression analysis results showed that canopy cover and distance significantly affected noise levels with a strong relationship, where the denser the canopy cover and the farther the distance, the noise level would decrease.

Abstract

Wood laminates offer a luxurious appearance and beautiful ornamental value. Petung bamboo has a very good material to be applied into laminated boards, besides the sturdy stem wall, the bamboo has a long life and is free from pests and diseases. The purpose of this study was to identify the strength class of laminated boards for construction use by analyzing the effect of the combination of jackfruit mahon wood with petung bamboo. The study showed that there was no significant difference in the strength of solid and laminated boards. The mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni L. Jacq.) and jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lamk.) woods have medium specific gravity (0.53-0.72 for mahogany and 0.51-0.58 for jackfruit) and strength class II-III, which makes them suitable for laminated boards. The combination significantly impacts density and moisture content, but has no impact on expansion or shrinkage. Each physical examination complies with JAS SE-7 2003. This laminated board combination is classified as strength class III and is suitable for use as a building material.

Abstract

Lamination technology by making laminated boards is a form of increasing the variety of wood products and an effort to overcome the lack of supply of high-quality wood. Laminate board is a form of artificial board made from laminae that are glued together with the help of compression. The characteristics of laminated board are influenced by several factors, including the type of raw material and compression pressure. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of variations in compression pressure, types of combination and their interactions on the physical and mechanical properties of laminated board products made from a combination of wood and non-wood. The characteristics of laminated board are influenced by several factors, including the type of raw material and felt pressure. Density test results show that the density value has no significant effect on felt pressure, the combination of types and their interactions. Water content testing shows that the type of combination and compression pressure have a significant effect but the interaction has no real effect. The thickness expansion test shows that the compression pressure has a real effect but the type of combination has no real effect. Thickness shrinkage shows that the type of combination has a real effect but compression pressure and interaction do not have a real effect. MoE testing shows that the type of combination has a real effect but the compression pressure and its interaction do not have a real effect. MoR testing shows that the type of combination has a real effect but the compression pressure and its interaction do not have a real effect. There was an increase in the strength class value after combining wood with non-wood from strength class IV to strength class III. All physics test results have met the standards for laminated boards but the mechanics tests have not met the standards
