Abstract

Heuristic strategy is one of the mathematics problem solving strategies to gain effective results. This research aimed to analyze the use of the heuristic strategies based on the modification of the Krulik and Rudnik model. This research discovered and classified the students' heuristic strategies which can be used as a basis to provide assistance in the learning. This research was a qualitative research involving 32 students of SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Yogyakarta as its subjects. The research variables are the indicators of the Krulik and Rudnik heuristic models which the students performed including: read and think, explore and plan, select a strategy, find and answer, as well as reflect and extend. The data was taken through questionnaire and interview methods. The result suggested that: 2 students (6.25%) were in the good category as they did all of the heuristic strategies more often; 21 students (65.62%) were in the fair category since they implemented some indicators of the heuristic strategies; and 9 students (28.13%) were in the poor category since they were lack in implementing the heuristic strategies. In all categories, indicator of find and answer was more oftenly done by the students while the indicator of explore and plan was less done.

Abstract

Environmental sustainability is a crucial concern for universities due to the environmental impacts of their operations, including energy use, waste, and transportation. As key actors, higher education institutions play a vital role in promoting sustainability by enhancing students' knowledge, attitudes, and active participation in sustainable practices. This study aims to analyze the relationship between environmental education, knowledge, attitude, and behavior. A total of 376 students of Universitas Negeri Semarang were involved in this study. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed online. Data analysis was carried out using the PLS-SEM analysis technique. The results showed that environmental attitude has a positive effect on student environmental behavior. However, environmental education and knowledge were not proven to significantly influence environmental behavior directly. Environmental education has been shown to play an important role in significantly increasing knowledge and attitudes towards the environment. In addition, environmental education can indirectly influence environmental behavior through the formation of environmental attitudes. The implication of this study shows that the universities and higher education policymakers need to emphasize strengthening positive attitudes toward the environment in environmental education curricula, rather than just focusing on increasing knowledge alone.

Abstract

The study explores the impact of collaborative mentoring on transformative teachers' ability to publish best practices in urban education in Semarang City, Indonesia. Besides the important role of transformative teachers in improving the quality of education, the best practices were underexposed and adequately documented. Using the Participatory Community Appraisal (PCA) approach, the study involved 24 transformative teachers in a structured mentoring program focused on identifying, documenting, and publishing best practices. The program includes intensive workshops, ongoing online support, and peer collaboration. The results showed a transformative teachers can articulate and disseminate innovative practices, with 80% of participants successfully publishing the work on various platforms. The study concludes that collaborative mentoring catalyzes the publication of best practices, thereby increasing knowledge sharing among educators and potentially improving the quality of urban education. This research contributes to the growing literature on teacher professional development and highlights the importance of structured support in promoting the spread of educational innovation.

Abstract

This community service project aims to empower teachers in Semarang City to improve their skills in academic writing and publication through a community-based mentorship program. The project addresses critical challenges faced by teachers, including limited time for research, lack of experience in scientific publication, and funding constraints. Using the Participatory Community Appraisal (PCA) method, the program was designed to actively involve teachers in planning, executing, and evaluating the mentorship activities. The community of teachers, particularly those involved in the PKY (Pengembang Konten Youtube) Teacher Community, received intensive training and guidance in scientific writing, article submission, and publication processes. The project results include a significant improvement in teachers' academic writing abilities, with several articles prepared for submission to national journals. The collaborative approach fostered a sense of ownership among participants, making the outcomes more sustainable. This initiative highlights the importance of providing structured mentorship to enhance teachers' professional development and their contributions to academic knowledge.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze students' critical thinking skills and learning barriers in learning mathematics translation material. The concept of translation is fundamental for students who want to master geometric transformations. Students must understand the basics of translation because this understanding of translation will be needed at a higher level. However, many students still experience obstacles in understanding translation material. Students experience learning impediments because of the difference between the expected achievements of critical thinking skill indicators, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference, and the actual results. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research methodology, utilizing data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive methods with 30 class XI-1 students as participants. Triangulation was used in the data collection process, which involved using teacher and student interviews, administering diagnostic tests, and textbook analysis (document analysis). The research results show that the average percentage of students' critical thinking abilities from the four indicators is 41.665%. Ontogenic, didactic, and epistemological barriers cause the low critical thinking skills of class XI-1 in studying translation. The research results can be used as considerations for teachers in designing learning to improve critical thinking skills and reduce students' learning barriers in learning translational material.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of the CORE learning model assisted by Liveworksheet and examine the effect of self-efficacy on students' mathematical reasoning. A quantitative method with a posttest-only control group design was used. Instruments included a reasoning test, self-efficacy questionnaire, student response questionnaire, and observation sheet. The sample consisted of eighth-grade students at SMPN 16 Semarang, selected through cluster random sampling. Data analysis involved planning, implementation, evaluation, and simple linear regression. The results showed the CORE model with Liveworksheet was of good quality, and self-efficacy significantly influenced mathematical reasoning, contributing 71.6%. It is recommended that the interactive CORE model be further developed along with differentiated teaching tools to ensure learning becomes more adaptive to students’ needs.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy skills are very important in solving problems in the current era. In learning, a learning model and the role of the teacher are needed when teaching students about Self Regulated Learning. This research aims to describe students' numeracy literacy in terms of Self Regulated Learning with the Problem-Based Learning model assisted by Liveworksheets. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. This research was carried out at SMP IT Al Fateeh Semarang by 25 class VIII students, subject selection was based on the results of a questionnaire. From the sequence of questionnaire scores, researchers can determine which students are in the high category, medium category, and low ability category. Based on the test results, 6 research subjects were chosen to represent students in the categories of high, medium, and low self-regulated learning abilities. The subjects were interviewed by the researcher based on how to solve the SPLDV material description test questions. The research subjects consisted of six students representing three levels of Self Regulated Learning (low, medium, high) in the experimental class as research subjects. Based on the results of the analysis of answers and interviews with research subjects, it was found that students with a low level did not meet all the indicators of numeracy literacy, students with a moderate level of Self Regulated Learning met the indicators of understanding problems, using mathematical rules, strategies for interpreting symbols. Students with a high level of Self Regulated Learning fulfill all indicators of understanding problems, using mathematical rules, and strategies for solving problems, and being able to interpret symbols and draw conclusions.
