Abstract

21st-century learning requires students to develop critical, creative, and collaborative thinking skills, as well as the ability to solve contextual problems. However, learning practices in elementary schools are still dominated by expository strategies, which render student’s passive and discourage the development of higher-order thinking skills. Research on the application of problem-based learning strategies to improve critical thinking skills and learning outcomes, particularly in natural disasters, is still limited. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design on 104 fifth-grade students, divided into an experimental class using problem-based learning and a control class using an expository strategy. The instruments, a learning achievement test and a critical thinking test, were tested using Cronbach's Alpha in IBM SPSS Statistics 27, while pretest and posttest data were analyzed using an Independent Samples T-Test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a significant effect of problem-based learning strategies on improving learning outcomes and critical thinking skills, in line with constructivist theory, which emphasizes active student involvement. This strategy is more effective than expository learning and is recommended for wider implementation.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools still faces challenges, particularly in the topic of arithmetic operations with whole numbers, which requires conceptual understanding and precision. Furthermore, learning remains teacher-centered and has not yet optimally utilized digital media. Canva, as a digital medium, actually has the potential to provide engaging and interactive visual displays. This research gap arises because there are still few studies that simultaneously compare the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Canva-assisted Expository Learning and examine the role of mathematical aptitude as a moderating variable. This study aims to analyze the influence of learning strategies, mathematical aptitude, and their interaction on learning outcomes in arithmetic operations with whole numbers up to 100,000. The approach used was quantitative with a 2x2 factorial experimental design involving 86 fifth-grade students. The research instruments consisted of a learning achievement test and a mathematical aptitude questionnaire. The results of a two-way ANOVA analysis showed that Canva-assisted PjBL was more effective than Expository Learning, mathematical aptitude had a significant effect, and there was an interaction between the two, with PjBL being more helpful for students with lower aptitude. This study confirms that Canva integration in PjBL is effective for 21st century learning.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low literacy skills and Civics (Civic Education) learning outcomes of elementary school students, which are caused by teacher-centered instruction and the limited optimal use of literacy-based strategies and digital media. The research gap arises from the lack of studies implementing strategies that integrate literacy with interactive media. This study aims to examine the effect of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) strategy on the literacy skills and Civics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Kepanjen 2. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, the study involved an experimental class applying the RADEC strategy and a control class using an expository strategy supported by Canva. The instruments consisted of expert-validated literacy and learning outcome tests. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using an Independent Samples t-test and Tests of Between-Subjects Effects with SPSS 27. The results revealed a significant difference between the two groups, with Sig. 0.000 < 0.05 for literacy and t = 5.757 (p = 0.000) for learning outcomes. These findings confirm that the RADEC strategy supported by Canva is effective in improving literacy skills and Civics learning outcomes and is recommended as a 21st-century learning strategy.

Abstract

The transformation of learning in higher education places digital libraries beyond simply providing information access, but rather as strategic instruments that determine the quality of student performance and learning outcomes. This study aims to comprehensively examine the influence of digital library use and the quality of digital collections on student performance and learning outcomes, with information literacy as a moderating variable. The study used a quantitative approach with an explanatory design using the Structural Equation Modeling method on 200 students of the Graduate School of PGRI Adi Buana University Surabaya, intakes of 2023 to 2025. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using measurement and structural models to test the direct and indirect effects between variables. The results showed that the quality of digital collections significantly influenced student learning outcomes and information literacy, while the use of digital libraries had no direct effect on student performance. Information literacy was shown to have a very strong influence on student performance and played a significant role in mediating the influence of the quality of digital collections and the use of digital libraries on performance and learning outcomes. These findings provocatively emphasize that access and intensity of digital library use will be meaningless without adequate information literacy, thus information literacy emerges as a determining factor that transforms the quality of digital library resources and utilization into tangible academic achievements. This research provides theoretical contributions in strengthening the integrative model of digital library-based learning as well as practical implications for higher education administrators to shift the policy focus from merely technology development to strengthening the quality of collections and student information literacy in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Personalized teaching materials are an innovation in answering the diversity of student characteristics in higher education. However, its implementation still faces challenges. This study aims to analyse the trends and identify research gaps of personalized teaching materials usages. The method used is a critical literature review of articles from internationally reputable databases. The results of the study show two main findings: (1) there is a transformation in the use of personalized teaching materials in three phases such as: technical and standardization phase; the dynamic pedagogical and adaptive integration phase, and the artificial intelligence and holistic welfare phase; (2) There are four main research gaps such as: inconsistencies in measurement methodology, obstacles to contextual implementation, conceptual ambiguity of personal needs, and limited lecturer readiness. The most valuable finding from  review that the use of PTM where the implementation no longer lies in the "what" is learned but in the "how" the system is intelligently able to empathize with the cognitive and emotional state of learners to create a truly meaningful instructional experience. These are  theoretical contribution in clarifying the evolution of the concept of PTM as well as practical contributions to the development of adaptive learning designs in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning models and learning motivation on the science learning outcomes of class IX students at SMPN 1 Pacet. The study employed an experimental method with a 2×2 factorial design. The research sample consisted of two randomly selected classes, each with 30 students. The research instruments included a science learning achievement test and a learning motivation questionnaire, both of which had been tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA after meeting the assumptions of normality and homogeneity. The results showed that the learning model significantly influenced science learning outcomes (Sig. = 0.000). Students learning using PjBL showed greater improvement in learning outcomes than those using PBL. Learning motivation also significantly influenced learning outcomes (Sig. = 0.000), with students learning through PjBL demonstrating higher learning outcomes than those learning through PBL. Furthermore, there was a significant interaction between the learning model and learning motivation on science learning outcomes (Sig. = 0.016), indicating that the effectiveness of the learning model depends on students’ levels of learning motivation. In conclusion, these findings emphasize the importance of selecting an appropriate learning model and the need to consider motivational factors to optimize science learning outcomes.
