Abstract

The low awareness of Generation Z towards cultural heritage poses a potential threat to its preservation and utilization in the future. The lack of education about the values and history of cultural heritage is one of the main factors contributing to the youth's lack of awareness about the importance of cultural preservation. Banjarmasin, as a city with rich cultural heritage, requires innovation in the dissemination of cultural information and education to remain relevant to the younger generation. This study aims to develop the digitalization of cultural heritage based on flipbooks as an effort to provide easier access to information about Banjarmasin's cultural heritage. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis through observation, literature review, and interviews with relevant stakeholders, including the community, academics, and policymakers. The results of the study show that flipbook-based digitalization can be an effective strategy in raising awareness and understanding among Generation Z about cultural heritage. Digital flipbooks allow for the presentation of information in a more interactive, engaging, and easily accessible manner, which can increase Generation Z's interest in understanding and preserving local culture. Furthermore, digitalization also contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage by documenting historical information more systematically and sustainably. This research contributes to the development of digital-based education strategies for cultural preservation and opens up opportunities for further innovation in the use of digital technology in education and culture. Thus, the digitalization of cultural heritage through flipbooks not only serves as an educational medium but also as a concrete effort to maintain the continuity of cultural heritage in the digital era.

Abstract

This research examines the role of the Kuntau Sinar Pahlawan Community in preserving the traditional martial art of Kuntau as part of the cultural heritage of Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan. Kuntau not only represents physical skills but also contains philosophical, spiritual, and social values that form the cultural identity of the Banjar people. The method used was descriptive qualitative through observation, interviews, and literature study. The results showed that this community actively preserves Kuntau through regular training, cultural performances, and adaptation to technological developments through digital media. In addition, the preservation strategies implemented include documentation of the movement, development of an internal curriculum, and integration of local values in every learning process. The community has managed to maintain Kuntau's existence through adaptive strategies, despite facing challenges such as a lack of interest from the younger generation, limited resources, and a lack of support from the government and financial support. The conclusion of the research confirms that the preservation of traditional martial arts requires synergy between the community, government, and society in order to maintain cultural sustainability.

Abstract

This research deeply examines how the lyrics of Anang Ardiansyah's songs reflect the dynamics of character values and cultural identity of the people of Banjarmasin, by using Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic approach which consists of 5 stages: (1) Theme Identification; (2) Naive Understanding; (3) Deep Interpretation; (4) Fusion Horizon that allows researchers to capture the various layers of meaning contained in song lyrics. This systematic analytical process provides a solid methodological framework to examine the representation of fundamental values such as Islamic religiosity, local wisdom, patriotism, and social solidarity, which are inherent in the cultural identity of the Banjar people. This research analyses the symbolic and metaphorical meanings in four selected songs: Bastamiyah, Bismillah Kata Bamula, Puhun Rambai, and Paris Barantai. Through a systematic interpretive analysis, which involves a layer-by-layer interpretation to decipher the text based on its cultural and historical context, this study reveals that the lyrics represent fundamental values such as Islamic religiosity, local wisdom, patriotism, and social solidarity that are deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the Banjar people. The findings show that the songs function as a medium for transmitting and preserving cultural values, bridging tradition and modernity. The significance of this research lies in identifying the mechanisms through which traditional art has a role in transmitting and preserving cultural values.

Abstract

Abstract

Regional songs serve as repositories of cultural values and identity markers, yet limited scholarly attention has examined their role in transmitting religious and social values within specific ethnic communities. This study applies Paul Ricoeur's three-stage hermeneutic framework—explanation, understanding, and appropriation—to analyze four purposively selected songs by Anang Ardiansyah: Batasmiyah, Bismillah Kata Bamula, Puhun Rambai, and Paris Barantai. Selection criteria included: (1) representation of different thematic elements (religious practice, cultural identity, social solidarity, environmental connection), (2) widespread recognition within Banjar communities, and (3) availability of complete lyrical texts. The explanation stage involved literal textual analysis, understanding examined cultural-contextual meanings within Banjar Islamic traditions, and appropriation explored contemporary relevance for cultural preservation. Analysis reveals three primary symbolic domains: (1) religious integration through ritual terminology ("Bismillah kata bamula", "batapung tawar") demonstrating Islamic-Banjar cultural synthesis, (2) social solidarity mechanisms embedded in zakat and gotong royong references that prescribe communal responsibility, and (3) place-based identity construction through geographical markers ("Kotabaru gunungnya bamega") and natural symbols (rambai tree) that anchor cultural belonging. The study's theoretical contribution lies in demonstrating how Ricoeur's hermeneutic appropriation stage can illuminate the contemporary transmission of traditional values through musical narratives. These findings provide empirical evidence for integrating Anang Ardiansyah's compositions into formal Islamic education curricula as supplementary materials for akhlaq (character) instruction, and suggest developing community-based cultural workshops using these songs as discussion frameworks for intergenerational value transmission among Banjar diaspora communities.

Abstract

This study examines the complexity of educational challenges in Swarangan, a coastal village with 230 fishing households and 47 fishermen. Employing a qualitative approach through field observations and in-depth interviews, the research uncovers factors influencing low adolescent educational participation. Key findings reveal that infrastructure limitations, a 12-kilometer distance to the nearest high school, and poor road conditions significantly diminish motivation to continue education. A socioeconomic disparity is identified between prosperous seafood processors and economically constrained fishermen. The educational system faces structural challenges, with all educators originating from outside the village and an absenteeism rate 15% higher compared to schools with better infrastructure access. Adolescents tend to choose working as fishermen, with potential monthly earnings of 3-4 million rupiah. The research recommends a comprehensive approach through infrastructure improvement, strengthening teacher incentives, developing alternative economic empowerment programs, and initiating community-based education to create an inclusive educational ecosystem in coastal villages.
