Abstract

Background: The integration of digital mental health technologies presents transformative opportunities for addressing service gaps in underserved and resource-limited areas. Purpose: The objective was to identify, evaluate, and summarize peer-reviewed studies that explored both opportunities and challenges associated with digital mental health interventions in rural, remote, and resource-limited settings. Methods: This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 10 peer-reviewed studies to evaluate the effectiveness, accessibility, and challenges of implementing telemedicine, mobile health (mHealth), SMS-based interventions, and digital platforms across diverse global contexts. Result: Findings reveal that digital tools significantly improve access to care by overcoming geographic barriers, reducing stigma, and enabling remote treatment delivery. However, challenges such as inadequate digital infrastructure, data privacy concerns, and limited digital literacy hinder equitable adoption. The study further explores agronursing defined as therapeutic agricultural practices as a complementary, community-centered approach to supporting mental well-being, particularly in rural settings. Conclusions: By combining technological innovation with nature-based therapies, this review highlights pathways toward more inclusive and sustainable mental health service delivery. These insights are critical for policymakers and healthcare providers aiming to address global mental health disparities through context-sensitive solutions.

Abstract

Introduction: Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by painful ulcers on the oral mucosa. Emerging evidence indicates that psychological factors, such as stress, anxiety, and depression, may play a role in its development. This review aims to examine the influence of these mental health factors on the onset and progression of RAS based on recent scientific literature. Methods: he exact mechanisms through which psychological stressors contribute to RAS remain poorly understood. To address this, a systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to consolidate current research findings. A thorough search was performed across PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar to identify original studies published within the past decade. The search terms used were: ("Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis" OR "RAS") AND ("Stress" OR "Anxiety" OR "Depression") AND ("Psychological Factors" OR "Mental Health"). Results: Findings from the reviewed literature indicate a strong correlation between stress and both the initiation and recurrence of RAS. This association appears to be largely driven by the activation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, resulting in increased cortisol levels and subsequent suppression of immune function. These physiological changes are believed to weaken mucosal defenses, thereby increasing vulnerability to ulcer formation. Conclusions: These insights underscore the importance of incorporating psychological interventions—particularly stress-reduction techniques—into the management of RAS to enhance patient well-being and reduce symptom burden.

Abstract

Highlight : • Disasters impact a large number of people, including nurses who are deployed in the disaster relief. • Culturally sensitive psychological first aid sessions, post-assignment in crisis situations monitoring, and grit have implications in pushing the nurses to overcome their trauma and obstacles. • Government policies are also important in helping nurses to heal after deployment in disaster relief. Abstract : Disasters are defined as catastrophic occurrences that impact a large number of people quickly and with an abrupt onset. On average, one natural disaster is reported globally each day. However, the impact of a traumatic occurrence on an individual may be compared to a rock colliding with the surface of a water body. Systematic searches were conducted in Cochrane, Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases. The following keywords were used to perform a literature search: "nurse," "healing," and "natural catastrophes". As a result of reviewing 362 abstracts and titles, ten were determined to meet the study goals. The research methods in four of the ten literatures were qualitative, five quantitative, and one was a blend of both. Generally, culturally appropriate psychological first aid sessions, post-natural disaster assignment monitoring, and grit push people to overcome obstacles and accomplish achievements over time. Nurses who have been deployed to natural catastrophes must heal and need time to rest physically and mentally. This study aimed to find out the implications of culturally sensitive psychological first aid sessions, post-assignment in crisis situations monitoring, and grit in pushing individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve success over time; and how the government policies relate to trauma recovery.

Abstract

Stunting remains a pressing global health issue, with 149 million children affected in 2020. In Bangkalan District, East Java, stunting prevalence reaches 25.2 percent, exceeding the provincial average of 19.2 percent. This study aimed to analyze factors influencing stunting, including breastfeeding coverage, maternal education, hygiene, and infectious diseases. Conducted from August to September 2023 in the Blega Health Center area, this analytical correlation study involved 35 toddlers aged 24–59 months selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and interviews, then analyzed using chi-square tests in SPSS. The results revealed significant relationships between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting (p value is less than 0.05) and between infectious diseases (e.g., diarrhea and URTI) and stunting (p value is less than 0.05). Toddlers not exclusively breastfed were 0.2 times more likely to be stunted, and those frequently suffering from diarrhea had a 0.13 times higher risk. However, no significant association was found between maternal education or hygiene behavior and stunting (p value is more than 0.05). These findings emphasize the importance of promoting exclusive breastfeeding and preventing infectious diseases as key strategies to combat stunting. Complementary measures, such as improving hygiene and sanitation, remain critical to creating a supportive environment for child growth and development

Abstract

Background: The increasing number of older adults is a challenge for public health systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries, because the aging process is often accompanied by a decline in physical function and quality of life in the elderly. Although various studies have shown that community nursing interventions through physical exercise programs have been proven effective, an in-depth understanding of how older adults interpret and directly experience their involvement in these programs is still limited. Objective: This study aims to explore the experiences of older adults who participated in a community-based physical exercise program in Malang City using a qualitative phenomenological approach. Methods: A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted among 24 older adults living in Malang City, Indonesia, who participated in a six-week community-based exercise program. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected through individual, face-to-face, semi-structured interviews conducted in participants’ homes after completion of the intervention. Interviews lasted 30–60 minutes, were audio-recorded with consent, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed manually using thematic analysis. Trustworthiness was ensured through credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability strategies, including member checking, field notes, audit trails, and independent coding by two researchers. Results: the data was analyzed thematically and produced four main themes: (i) Rediscovering Physical Capability and Body Confidence, (ii) Exercise as a Meaningful and Enjoyable Social Experience, (iii) Growing Awareness of Health and Self-Care, and (iv) The Community Nurse as a Catalyst for Engagement and Safety. Conclusion: These findings of this study highlight that community nurses play a role not only as instructors but also as facilitators capable of fostering motivation, self-confidence, and sustained participation in older adults through an individual-centered approach. Therefore, nurse-initiated community-based physical exercise programs should be considered for more systematic integration into public health policies as part of strategies to support healthy and sustainable aging.

Abstract

Academic procrastination has become a significant challenge in digital learning environments, particularly among adolescents with high smartphone and social media usage. This study examines the relationship between mobile phone use and academic procrastination among 262 high school students in Indonesia using a cross-sectional survey, narrative review, and network analysis. Results show 75.6% of students exhibit medium and 20.2% high procrastination levels, with "alternative activities" like digital distractions as the main form (M = 15.87, SD = 2.92). No significant differences were found by gender (p = .067) or age (p = .412), but strong positive correlations emerged between gadget use (smartphone), social media, and procrastination (r ≈ 0.70), while family support correlated negatively (r ≈ –0.44). Network analysis identified protective factors such as family and school support, cultural values (gotong royong, pintar tuntang harati), and effective interventions including family counseling (d = 0.71), digital detox (d = 0.65), and school-based programs (d = 0.62), the effect sizes for these interventions were synthesized from the narrative review of existing literature and do not represent empirical findings from the current study. The findings underscore the need for culturally responsive, multi-tiered strategies that integrate self-regulation, digital wellness, and sociocultural support to reduce procrastination in technology-rich educational settings.
