Abstract

This study examines household financial literacy among women in oil palm farming families, a sector known for its economic volatility due to fluctuating commodity prices and limited access to financial information. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct observations with women responsible for managing household finances in oil palm smallholder environments. The data were analyzed through stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that household financial literacy among these women is generally adequate, particularly in understanding income sources, essential expenditures, and the importance of prioritizing needs over wants. Respondents demonstrated the ability to manage income through budgeting decisions and to handle debt responsibly by ensuring timely repayment. However, financial challenges remain, especially due to the absence of systematic financial recordkeeping and limited long-term budgeting practices. These limitations often lead to difficulties in managing household finances during periods of price fluctuation or reduced harvest yields. The study emphasizes the need for strengthened financial education programs to support better planning, recording, and resilience in agricultural household economies.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the contribution of ethnochemistry in supporting the development of 21st-century skills within the context of chemistry education. This study is important because many studies identify ethnochemistry as a highly potential field, but few have thoroughly examined how ethnochemistry can be applied to support the development of 21st-century skills. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this research collects and evaluates relevant literature on the relationship between ethnochemistry and 21st-century skills. Thirteen articles were selected from a pool of 79 collected articles. Several 21st-century skills supported by the articles include scientific literacy, chemical literacy, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities. The analysis shows that the dominant 21st-century skills supported are scientific literacy (46%) and chemical literacy (38%). These percentages are obtained by comparing the number of articles for each skill with the total number of articles analyzed. The conclusion of this study is that the 21st-century skills supported by ethnochemistry include scientific literacy, chemical literacy, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities. However, there are still limitations: firstly, most studies are local and contextual; secondly, most studies use short-term designs, without long-term follow-up; thirdly, research instruments in several studies are limited to questionnaires and student perceptions, without data triangulation. This study recommends further research into the integration of ethnochemistry to support 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and others. Moreover, it is necessary to integrate ethnochemistry into the chemistry education curriculum, incorporating ethnochemistry as part of the teaching method that can enrich the teaching material with local cultural contexts.

Abstract

Abstract

Stunting in children is influenced by maternal health conditions during pregnancy. This study aims to classify pregnant women to prevent stunting based on clinical, demographic, and environmental factors using the K-Means Clustering algorithm. A total of 229 data from the Primadona application (Disdalduk KB Kota Semarang) were analyzed using 14 normalized variables. The optimal number of clusters was determined using the Elbow Method and validated using the Silhouette Score, Davies-Bouldin Index, and Calinski-Harabasz Index. The Kruskal-Wallis test was performed to verify differences between clusters. This study resulted in seven clusters with different profiles, with a Silhouette Score of 0.134, Davies-Bouldin Index of 1.509, and Calinski-Harabasz Index of 29.54. These values indicate that the cluster structure is formed and reflects the variation in risk for pregnant women, although there is overlap due to differences in characteristics between individuals. The clustering successfully differentiated pregnant women with low to high risk, influenced by health and environmental factors. This study proves the effectiveness of K-Means in identifying stunting risk patterns in pregnant women and supports more targeted interventions, such as nutritional counseling, disease risk monitoring, education on cigarette smoke exposure, and referrals. Limitations of this study include the unbalanced distribution of data between and the use of cross-sectional data. Future research is recommended to improve pre-processing and compare other clustering methods such as K-Medoids or DBSCAN for more precise stunting risk analysis.
