Abstract

Water cleaning technology using coagulation has already been carried out use a plants in the coagulation process has never been done before, especially using plants that have potential to be a source of natural coagulants is Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides). Plants that have the potential to be a source of natural coagulants are plants that contain a lot of protein. Each type of protein has an isoelectric point at a different pH like isoelectric point, the protein will have a neutral charge. . The calculation results of the number of colonies in samples were B1, B2, and B3 with dilutions of 266. 105, 9. 107 and 104. 109 CFU/mL. The results of Gram staining identification showed that the B1, B2 and B3 isolates had the shape are basil, basil and coccus (round) with Gram positive. The bacteria thrive in different habitats, so bacteria from the sample have been very cloudy to pH of 6.0 and 8.0 because neutralophiles properties. From the B3 isolate sample have high clear zone for Gram positive (S. aureus) of 13 mm more than Gram negative ( E. coli) of 11 mm. So that, the bandotan is able to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the water

Abstract

Safe urban water supply is influenced by water facility conditions, local geohydrological characteristics, and spatial variation in physicochemical parameters. This study evaluated the spatial quality of clean water facilities in Bengkulu City using field data from 130 observation points consisting of bore wells, dug wells, piped water or PDAM connections, and other community water sources. The study applied a descriptive quantitative approach supported by spatial interpretation. Physical parameters included turbidity indication, odor, taste, and color, while chemical and supporting parameters included Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, temperature, coordinates, and elevation. Data were cleaned, normalized, classified, and assessed using a blackbox rule-based compliance test referring to operational criteria derived from Indonesian clean water quality standards. The results showed that most samples had acceptable organoleptic characteristics, with 122 points not turbid, 129 odorless, 125 tasteless, and 128 colorless. TDS complied at 116 points (89.2%), whereas pH showed the weakest compliance, with only 69 points (53.1%) within the 6.5-8.5 range. Spatial screening identified 63 points as low priority, 47 as moderate priority requiring verification, and 20 as high priority requiring intervention. The findings indicate that basic water quality in Bengkulu City is generally acceptable for several field indicators, but acidity and several spatially clustered risks require further verification, laboratory testing, and location-specific water sanitation management.

Abstract

Background: The use of fossil fuels can cause various impacts that lead to health problems. Therefore, an alternative energy source is needed to reduce environmental impact. One form of biomass energy is briquette production. Briquette materials can be obtained from industrial waste, namely durian peels and young coconut shells. Methods: This study employed a laboratory-scale experimental design to evaluate the effect of material composition on briquette quality parameters. Results: The results showed that variations in the composition of durian peel and young coconut shells produced different briquette qualities for each parameter, with a 2:1 mixture providing the most optimal quality with low moisture content (3.91%), low ash content (6.52%), high fixed carbon (85.04%), controlled volatile matter (4.53%), and high calorific value (6096 cal/g). The ANOVA test showed p-values < 0.05 for all quality parameters, indicating that variations in material composition significantly affect the quality of the briquettes produced. Conclusions: This research indicates that the quality of briquettes made from a mixture of durian peel and young coconut shells is influenced by composition, with a 2:1 ratio producing the best quality based on parameters such as moisture content, ash content, bound carbon, volatile matter, and calorific value. Further research is recommended using a wider range of ratios and additional testing, such as durability and combustion emissions, to strengthen the assessment of briquette quality.

Abstract

The increasing demand for clean water in coastal and rural areas requires affordable and environmentally friendly purification methods. This study investigates the utilization of bioactive compounds from Ageratum conyzoides leaves to enhance the quality of dug well water. Phytochemical screening revealed that the leaves contain tannins, flavonoids, saponins, polyphenols, essential oils, and various secondary metabolites with potential coagulating and antimicrobial properties. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy identified functional groups associated with phenolic, flavonoid, alkaloid, and terpenoid compounds, suggesting their role in natural coagulation processes. Coagulation tests using different dosages (15, 25, and 35 mg) demonstrated a significant reduction in turbidity, with the highest efficiency (68%) achieved at 15 mg dosage. These findings indicate that A. conyzoides leaf extract can serve as a sustainable bio-coagulant for improving dug well water quality. Further studies employing GC-MS and LC-MS are required to optimize compound characterization and strengthen its application in community-scale water treatment.
