Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Mathematics at SD Negeri 21 Parak Kopi, Padang City. The problem was caused by the limited use of varied learning models, teacher-centered instruction, and the lack of student involvement in learning activities. As a result, students were less active, had difficulty understanding mathematical concepts, and many failed to achieve the established Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP). This study aimed to describe the improvement of students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using qualitative and quantitative approaches. It was conducted in three cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were one teacher and 25 fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 21 Parak Kopi, Padang City, during the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. The findings showed continuous improvement in each cycle. The lesson planning score increased from 78.12% in Cycle I to 90.62% in Cycle II and 96.87% in Cycle III. Teacher activities improved from 78.57% to 92.85%, while student activities increased from 75.00% to 85.71%. Students’ learning outcomes also improved from 72.4% in Cycle I to 82.4% in Cycle II and 91.4% in Cycle III. Therefore, the Discovery Learning model was effective in improving students’ learning outcomes in Mathematics.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of student engagement in the learning process, lack of enthusiasm and motivation to learn, and students’ tendency to be easily distracted. These conditions were caused by the implementation of learning activities that were not yet based on Deep Learning Lesson Planning (RPM), the use of predominantly conventional teaching methods, and the limited utilization of learning media. This study aimed to describe the improvement of students’ learning outcomes on the characteristics of plane figures through the Cooperative Learning Make a Match model assisted by Wordwall in Grade IV of SDN 20 Binuang Kampung Dalam, Padang City. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using qualitative and quantitative approaches conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were one teacher and 24 fourth-grade students in the January–June semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through RPM observation, teacher and student activity observations, and assessments of affective, psychomotor, and cognitive learning outcomes. The results showed continuous improvement in each cycle. The RPM score increased from 89.58% to 95.83%. The implementation of learning activities by both the teacher and students improved from 88.75% to 97.50%. Students’ learning outcomes also increased, with affective scores rising from 76.56 to 91.32, psychomotor scores from 76.30 to 92.19, and cognitive scores from 78.54 to 91.25. Therefore, the Cooperative Learning Make a Match model assisted by Wordwall effectively improved students’ learning outcomes on the characteristics of plane figures.

Abstract

Low mathematics performance among second-grade students at SDN 12 Padang Besi, Padang City especially in the topic of addition and subtraction served as the primary motivation for this research. Several contributing factors were observed, namely minimal use of varied and innovative teaching approaches, suboptimal utilization of instructional media, weak student focus and participation during lessons, and shallow grasp of basic arithmetic principles among learners. To address these issues, the researcher set out to investigate whether applying a Game Based Learning (GBL) approach, supported by Snake and Ladder media, could raise students' academic performance. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) framework combining qualitative and quantitative methods was employed, unfolding across two cycles that each followed four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Both testing and non-testing instruments were used to collect data, drawing on a research sample composed of one second-grade classroom teacher along with 21 pupils from the same grade at SDN 12 Padang Besi. Results pointed to steady gains across all measured dimensions. Teaching module quality rose from 87.45% (categorized as Good) during the first cycle to 95.8% (Very Good) in the second. Similarly, teacher performance climbed from 85.13% to 95.3%, moving from the Good to Very Good category, and student activity levels followed the same pattern, increasing from 85.13% to 95.3%. Meanwhile, students' mean achievement scores rose from 79.75 in Cycle I to 86.9 in Cycle II. Taken together, these outcomes confirm that Game Based Learning combined with Snake and Ladder media serves as an effective strategy for boosting students' understanding and results in addition and subtraction.

Abstract

Rendahnya hasil belajar luas bangun datar pada peserta didik kelas V SD Negeri 32 Sungai Jaring menjadi pemicu penelitian ini. Kondisi ini disebabkan oleh aktivitas belajar mengajar yang masih terpusat pada guru akibatnya peserta didik kurang mampu membangun pemahamnnya sendiri. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini, melibatkan 20 orang peserta didik kelas V dan dilakukan dalam II siklus, bertujuan untuk memaparkan perbaikan hasil belajar matematika melalui penerapan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan GeoGebra dengan menerapkan pendekatan kualitatif, kuantitatif. Data penelitian dikumpul melalui lembar observasi terhadap modul ajar, aktivitas guru dan peserta didik, serta tes hasil belajar. Penggunaan media GeoGebra dalam model Problem Based Learning mampu mendorong peningkatan hasil belajar matematika yang terlihat dari meningkatknya rata-rata nilai aspek pengetahuan dari 59,8 pada kondisi awal menjadi 84,75 di siklus II, serta aspek keterampilan dari 71,25 menjadi 87,7. Peningkatan aspek modul ajar dari 90,62% meningkat menjadi 100%; aktivitas guru dari 81,25% ke 90,62%; aktivitas peserta didik mulai dari 75% meningkat ke 87,5%. Dengan demikian, model PBL berbantuan GeoGebra efektif mendorong peningkatan capaian belajar matematika dalam materi luas bangun datar.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the 6C skills that students need to master in 21st-century learning. Based on interviews with fourth-grade teachers at SDN 11 Indarung and SDN 06 Padang Besi, it was found that mathematics learning had not fully supported the development of students' critical thinking skills. Students lacked initiative in developing their reasoning abilities and tended to be passive during the learning process. One effort that can be made is to implement the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary school students. The research method used was quasi-experimental research with a nonequivalent control group design. The independent variable was the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach, while the dependent variable was students' critical thinking skills. The research population consisted of fourth-grade students at SDN 11 Indarung and SDN 06 Padang Besi in the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. The experimental class received treatment using the RME approach, while the control class used conventional learning methods. Data were collected through pretests and posttests using an essay test instrument measuring critical thinking skills. The results showed that the mean pretest scores of the experimental and control classes were 25.20 and 27.50, respectively, while the mean posttest scores were 87.93 and 79.19, respectively. The hypothesis test results showed that tcount > ttable, namely 3.741 > 2.045, indicating that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Therefore, the RME approach had a positive and significant effect on the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary school students.
