Abstract

Researcher described that climbing up a ladder game could be effect to increase vocabulary. The participant was eighth class in SMPN 5 Cilegon. The researcher applied CAR method which consisted two cycles and two meetings per cycle. Pre-test and post-test were used collecting quantitative data, coupled with observation sheet and documentation collect qualitative data. Climbing up a ladder game could increase the students’ motivation, improve their vocabulary mastery, and establish the class to be more active. The researcher used pretest before applying the game and the posttest after that to measure their ability. The result of pretest showed that the average score was 68,00. Then the result of posttest 1 (cycle 1) was 77,69 and the result of post-test 2 (cycle 2) was 83,58. The researcher found out improvement in vocabulary on the other hand students passed score in school after being given the climbing up a ladder game. It can be concluded that students’ vocabulary mastery could be improved by climbing up a ladder game.

Abstract

This research is entitled A Study of The Relevance Impact Mobile Phone Used in Children's First Language Acquisition. The goal is to explain what things happen to the event if it continues. As well as explaining the factors that cause the permissibility of playing cellphones excessively and the impacts that occur. In this case it is familiar to all of us. This is very common nowadays. There are two factors that can affect the process of child growth and development, namely external factors and internal factors. Therefore, researchers are very enthusiastic in discussing familiar events that are often seen, even experienced. Mobile phones do not always have a negative impact on everyday life. However, in this case or another, children are often allowed to hold or play their gadgets without any restrictions. Mobile phones also have a positive impact on early childhood. To find out, this research was conducted based on previous studies so that there are factual answers that the writer can take.

Abstract

Education is one of the instruments of change and national civilization, especially related to human values and mental attitudes. The teacher is an activator, motivator and evaluator of education so that its existence must always be in a quality position. For that reason, it is necessary to conduct sustainable professionalism development as a form of optimizing the teachers’ role and function of in school or madrasah as formal institutions. By this ideal fuction, the authors see the spirit of optimism by educational world to encourage the formation of a fully prosperous civil society. This research investigated how the policy of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Banten Province in improving the professionalism of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers. This research used a qualitative method by documentary studies based on reports on activities carried out by the Madrasah Education Division in 2018 and in depth-interviews to the Heads of Madrasah Education Division and the Section Heads of Madrasah Education Division. Based on the results of data analysis, this study concluded that the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Banten Province has held three valuable programs related to enhance the teachers’ professionalism. They were strengthening the competence of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers through various program and pedagogical activities, increasing managerial competence by several trainings and increasing teachers’ welfare through providing financial incentive, and conducting scientific competitions.

Abstract

Nowadays, the development of technology has significantly affected how ESP teachers deliver their learning materials in the language classroom. This study aims to reveal the perceptions of ESP teachers towards digital learning technology devices used, both inside and outside the classroom. There are 25 ESP teachers of Serang Raya University engaged in this research. By using a questionnaire through Google Forms, this research revealed that although some students understand the importance of using digital devices in teaching practice in the classroom, they admit that their use has not been maximized due to their lack of knowledge about digital learning media.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to get deeper into the concept and process of speaking assessment. The assessment has a significant impact on students' learning because it plays a vital role in fostering students’ speaking capability in the learning process. Evaluating and assessing students' achievement in the learning process can give the direct impact toward students learning directly. This study focuses on the speaking assessment at the higher education level, what is the purpose of the speaking assessment, the technique and tools that is used in the assessment. The method used in this study is library research method, by collecting and identifying factual data from various sources and experts’ opinions. Researchers found from the study the purpose of speaking skill assessment is to measure the learning impact. Some techniques in conducting speaking assessment are: public speaking assessment, short and answer assessment, peer-assessment, self-assessment, direct, semi-direct, and indirect assessment, and digital formative assessment and the dynamic assessment for both direct and online or technology basis. The tools in conducting the speaking skills assessment are holistic rubric, analytical rubric, computer-based oral exams.

Abstract

Anxiety is the one psicological factor that has an important role in affecting language learning outcomes. It is a feeling of disquiet that happened in particular moment of time. Students’ anxiety here means that anxious children often have to exert more effort to perform well because they’re trying to manage their anxiety while executing a task. This research will use qualitative method to know the problems that arise in the event after interview and giving the students qustionnaire guide. The population of this study is students of tenth grade at MA Mathlaul Falah Lempuyang how join at English Class as 30 students. The researcher selected 9 participants for re-confirm the questionnaire guide they had answered. To collect data in this study is more appropriate to use questionnaire method because it allowed students to answer, can get answers appropriate or relevant to the research objectives and facilitated retrieval of data in large quantities. Based on the data finding in this research, the researcher offers suggestion to the student teacher to keep the low Level as the level of anxiety to students’ speaking, because at this level students will be more vigilant in preparation speaking and they will be better prepared to receive the material as well as the evaluation given by the teacher. As the most common factor that fear of negative evaluation of teachers should the students are not too afraid about it, because all will return for the good of the students themselves.

Abstract

Reading is one of the language skills that should be mastered by students. In reading, we gain information and knowledge from written text. The objective of this research is to find out whether there is an influence of using Kahoot on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang. The research methodology used was quasi-experimental. The researcher took two classes, one class as an experimental class and one class as a control class. To collect the data, the researcher used instruments consisting of multiple-choice questions of recount text which had been tried out before the treatment. The instrument consisted of pre-test and post-test. After collecting all the data, the researcher used t-test formula to test the hypothesis. From the calculation of the independent sample t-test, it resulted that tcount was 2.7940 and ttable was 2.0075. It means Ha is accepted because tcount > ttable. Therefore, there is an influence of using Kahoot on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang in the academic year of 2021/2022.

Abstract

Studies show that speaking anxiety is a common challenge for many students of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Therefore, this research was conducted to explore levels of speaking anxiety, factors contributing to students' anxiety, and coping strategies. Utilizing a qualitative approach with a case study design focuses on 36 eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Pabuaran. Instruments include a close-ended questionnaire, semi-structured interview, and observational sheet, complemented by data-collecting techniques such as questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The finding reveals that 3 participants (8%) indicated high anxiety, 16 participants (45%) indicated moderate anxiety, and 17 participants (47%) indicated low anxiety. Factors contributing to anxiety include personal and interpersonal anxieties, and classroom procedures. Students employ coping strategies such as preparation, relaxation, and positive thinking. It can be inferred that students are experiencing low levels of speaking anxiety, with two main factors including personal and interpersonal anxieties and classroom procedures. The strategies employed can serve as a reference for other students in managing their anxiety and improving their speaking skills.

Abstract

This research explores the perceptions of English teachers at SMPN 21 Kota Serang regarding implementing problem-based learning in their classes. The PBL model is used to teach speaking in class VIII D at SMPN 21 Kota Serang. The lack of motivation is the most significant reason for EFL students' English-speaking proficiency. A PBL model teaching approach can increase students' motivation to learn English. Implementing the PBL model can help students feel involved and challenged to solve problems to increase their motivation to learn. This research uses a qualitative case study as its research methodology to gain an in-depth understanding of emerging problems. English teachers in class VIII D were observed and interviewed about implementing problem-based learning. The findings of this research reveal that teachers who implement problem-based learning have succeeded in providing significant changes to students' English-speaking abilities and have motivation to speak English. Therefore, the researcher found that implementing problem-based learning in English language learning was successful in helping motivate students.

Abstract

This study explores alternative assessment techniques in a grade six English class at Daarul Qur'an Primary School, Tangerang, with an emphasis on real-world applications and continuous improvement. While traditional assessments are still common, the introduction of Indonesia's 2024 Merdeka Curriculum highlights the need for more authentic assessments of language use. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were gathered through observations, structured interviews, and document analysis. The study incorporates contextual teaching activities, such as video observations, email reading, role-playing, collaborative discussions, and group work, to enhance students' comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, and confidence in using English. These activities are designed to support the functional use of English in real-life scenarios. Formative assessments, including role plays, performance-based presentations, portfolios, and peer feedback, provide a comprehensive evaluation of students' progress. These methods foster active participation, creative thinking, and effective communication. The findings demonstrate that authentic assessments create a student-centered learning environment, promoting meaningful engagement and preparing students for practical communication challenges outside the classroom. By emphasizing real-world applications, these assessments lead to lasting learning outcomes and continuous improvement.
