Abstract

This study identifies and analyzes the problems of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at SMAN 3 Palangka Raya. The background of this study is based on the importance of learning innovation in improving the quality of the learning process, especially in PAI subjects which play an important role in the formation of character and morals of students. However, the implementation of the PBL model in schools still encounters various obstacles from various aspects. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation of PAI teachers, student affairs vice principals, and grade XI students. The results of the study indicate that the problems of PBL implementation include three main aspects, namely (1) teacher aspects, which include limited understanding of the syntax of PBL implementation, difficulties in compiling teaching modules, and limited training, (2) student aspects, such as low interest, unfamiliarity with the PBL approach and weak group cooperation, and (3) environmental aspects, such as limited facilities, minimal learning time, and diverse cultural backgrounds of students. The most dominant obstacle lies in teachers' lack of preparedness in systematically designing PBL scenarios, followed by low student participation in group discussions. This study confirms that successful PBL implementation requires improved teacher competency through regular training, more adequate infrastructure support, and strategies to strengthen student motivation for active participation. Other recommendations include increasing the time allocated for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and utilizing technology-based learning media to support the effectiveness of problem-based discussions. By meeting these factors, PBL has the potential to create more effective, applicable, and meaningful Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the learning methods employed during the COVID-19 pandemic for first-grade students in SD/MI schools in Palangka Raya City. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from school principals and first-grade teachers at four different SD/MI schools. The study employed Miles and Huberman's data analysis techniques, incorporating triangulation for data validation. The findings reveal four distinct learning methods implemented during the pandemic: online learning, limited face-to-face learning (PTMT), health protocol-compliant face-to-face learning, and complete offline face-to-face learning. Online learning was primarily used when strict social distancing measures were in place. PTMT was adopted to combine online and limited in-person sessions, ensuring minimal physical interaction. Health protocol-compliant face-to-face learning involved strict adherence to health guidelines during in-person classes. In contrast, complete health protocol offline face-to-face learning resumed normal classroom activities when permitted. The research concludes that these methods varied in effectiveness and adaptation based on the schools' resources and students' needs. This study highlights the diverse approaches schools took to maintain educational continuity, showcasing the flexibility and resilience of the education system in Palangka Raya City during the pandemic.

Abstract

Islamic theology based performance management has emerged as a strategic approach to improving the quality of Islamic education in the contemporary era, particularly as institutions such as pesantren are required not only to transmit knowledge but also to cultivate character through exemplification and daily practices. The challenges of globalization, the need to strengthen work ethics, and the demand for enhancing the quality of Islamic educational institutions make the integration of kalam-derived theological values a relevant foundation for performance management. This article employs a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing literature related to performance management, Islamic theological values, and their implementation within Islamic educational institutions. Data were analyzed through processes of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing to reveal patterns of theological value integration in educational managerial practices. The findings indicate that performance management incorporating Islamic values such as honesty, responsibility, discipline, and collaboration effectively enhances the work ethic of teachers and students, strengthens organizational culture, and supports holistic character formation. Practical implementations, including maqaṣid al-shari‘ah based evaluation, the development of students’ soft skills, and teacher training grounded in Islamic values, positively influence the effectiveness of Islamic educational institutions. However, challenges such as insufficient training, limited facilities, and resistance to change must be addressed systematically. The implications of this study underscore the importance of reinforcing Islamic performance management policies, enhancing educator capacity, and fostering collaboration among schools, parents, and communities to develop Islamic educational institutions that are excellent, adaptive, and character-driven.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the moral crisis and the lack of students' understanding in the subject of Akidah Akhlak at MTs Hidayatul Muhajirin Palangka Raya, where the learning process is still dominated by expository teaching strategies (lectures or verbal explanations). Therefore, this study aims to improve students' understanding of the Akidah Akhlak subject through the implementation of the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) learning strategy assisted by wordwall. The research uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental type in the form of a nonequivalent control group design. Data were collected through observation and tests (pretest and posttest) in the experimental class (STAD assisted by wordwall) and the control class (expository). Observation results showed that the implementation of the STAD strategy assisted by wordwall was carried out very well (reaching 95.8%). The independent sample t-test analysis showed a significance value of 0.000, which means there is a significant difference in students' understanding, where the average posttest score of the experimental group (88.93) is much higher than the control group (80.48). Furthermore, the N-Gain test produced a score of 0.6027 (medium category). It can be concluded that the implementation of the STAD learning strategy assisted by wordwall is effective in improving students' understanding in Akidah Akhlak subjects.

Abstract

Urban communities face complex challenges in Islamic education due to cultural diversity and tendencies toward religious formalism. As a multi-ethnic city, Palangka Raya requires an inclusive and spiritually meaningful approach to Islamic education. This article analyses the role of multicultural interpretation and philosophical hermeneutics in urban Islamic education through the perspective of Frithjof Schuon's perennialism. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature studies contextualized with the social reality of Palangka Raya and supported by limited interviews with educators and Islamic education figures. The analysis was conducted interpretively through philosophical synthesis. The results of the study show that multicultural interpretation functions as an inclusive ethical framework, philosophical hermeneutics encourages dialogical and contextual understanding, while Schuon's perennialism becomes a metaphysical foundation that integrates the exoteric and esoteric dimensions. The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of an integrative epistemological framework for the development of Islamic education in urban communities.
