Abstract

The lack of English textbooks that integrate Islamic values with contextual pedagogy remains a significant challenge in madrasah education, limiting teachers’ ability to deliver meaningful and character-oriented instruction. This study aims to develop an Islamic-contextual English textbook and examine its effectiveness in strengthening teacher competence. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, encompassing analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The participants involved 5 English teachers and 30 students in a madrasah setting, while three experts participated in the validation process. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, expert validation sheets, and pre-test and post-test instruments. The questionnaire demonstrated high reliability with a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of α = 0.87. The findings revealed that the developed textbook achieved a validation score of 88%, categorized as “very valid” by expert reviewers. In terms of practicality, 87% of teachers reported that the textbook was easy to implement and effectively supported classroom instruction, while 85% of students found the materials engaging, relevant, and meaningful. The effectiveness analysis showed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, with the mean score increasing from 60.5 in the pre-test to 82.3 in the post-test. Furthermore, the normalized gain score reached 0.65, indicating a moderate improvement, while the effect size analysis yielded d = 0.80, which falls into the large effect category. The implementation of the textbook also contributed to strengthening teachers’ pedagogical and professional competence, particularly in integrating Islamic values and contextual learning approaches into English instruction. This study concludes that the development of an Islamic-contextual English textbook provides an innovative, valid, practical, and effective solution for improving teacher competence and supporting meaningful English language learning in Islamic educational contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI) usage in academic publications at Islamic universities, focusing on the implications for academic ethics and spiritual values. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 150 students and 25 lecturers at both public and private Islamic universities in North Sumatra through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that AI is often perceived as an instant solution capable of replacing human intellectual processes, leading to a phenomenon of "AI worship" that contradicts the principle of tawhid (monotheism) in Islam. The pressure of academic meritocracy fosters instrumental logic, where the end result is prioritized over the learning process and deep reflection. This study recommends the integration of technology ethics education into curricula, training on the ethical use of AI, and the development of ethical guidelines that incorporate Islamic values. Collaboration among scholars, academics, and technology experts is also necessary to create a holistic framework that bridges Islamic scholarly traditions with modern technological innovations. This research underscores the urgency of transforming academic culture to ensure AI remains a complementary tool rather than a replacement for human intellectual capabilities, thereby preserving spiritual values and academic integrity in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Al-Qur'an memorization program in improving the quality of memorization of students at the Darul Ikhlas Dalan Lidang Islamic Boarding School. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis involving the tahfidz supervising teacher, students in the tahfidz room, and the boarding school management. The results showed that the implementation of tahfidz was carried out in a structured manner through a combination of tasmi', ziyadah, halaqah, talaqqi, and muroja'ah methods. The tahfidz program is divided into two categories, namely special tahfidz (kamar tahfiz) with a target of 3 juz per semester and tahfidz as a subject (Qur'an Hafadz) which is mandatory for all students. The evaluation system is carried out through tasmi' before moving juz and monthly exams. Despite challenges such as differences in student abilities, consistency of memorization, and target pressure, the boarding school implemented solutions in the form of mixed halaqah coaching, intensive guidance, routine evaluation, and a controlled discipline system. This structured and consistent implementation contributes to improving the quality of students' memorization, both in terms of fluency, accuracy of tajwid, and long-term memorization resilience.

Abstract

Hajj jurisprudence learning in madrasas is often theoretical, so students' understanding of the practice of the Hajj is not optimal. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Hajj ritual practice in improving the understanding of the Hajj ritual among students of grade XII MAS Darul Ikhlash, Dalin Lidang Village, Panyabungan District. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research subjects included teacher Cindy, the subject of fiqh, and students of grade XII. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation of Hajj ritual practice activities, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the Hajj ritual practice was carried out through direct simulation of the Hajj ritual series, including ihram, wukuf in Arafah, overnight in Muzdalifah, throwing the devil, tawaf, sa'i, and tahallul using a replica of the Kaaba and symbolic location markings. The implementation of this practice was able to improve the students' understanding of the cognitive aspects (understanding the order and laws of the Hajj), affective (appreciating spiritual values), and psychomotor (the ability to practice the Hajj rituals sequentially and correctly). Thus, learning based on Hajj ritual practices has proven effective in improving the understanding of the Hajj ritual among the students of class XII MAS Darul Ikhlash, Dalin Lidang Village, Panyabungan District.
