Abstract

The housefly (Musca domestica) is a vector that can spread bacteria through its body organs. This study aims to identify the bacteria on the exoskeleton of houseflies. The samples were collected from boarding houses, Biology department and postgraduate program of Universitas Negeri Makassar using insect nets. Morphological observations were conducted on selective media (EMBA, MSA, and TCBSA), followed by Gram staining and biochemical tests. The results revealed six types of bacteria: Enterobacter sp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Vibrio cholerae, and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Escherichia coli was found on houseflies collected from boarding houses. Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Escherichia coli were identified on houseflies from the postgraduate campus. Meanwhile, Enterobacter sp., Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, and Vibrio parahaemolyticus were found on houseflies from the Biology department campus. These findings indicate that houseflies from the Biology department campus harbored a greater quantity and diversity of bacteria compared to samples from other locations.

Abstract

The creation of the regional song "Mbali Mbojo Ku" was motivated by the desire to express love, longing, and pride for the birthplace of Bima (Mbojo) through music as a medium of cultural expression. This song was created to maintain the existence of the language and regional cultural values that are starting to be eroded by modernization, as well as to rekindle the spirit of love for local identity among the younger generation. Through a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation techniques, this research focuses on the meaning, function, and social context of the song's creation. The results show that "Mbali Mbojo Ku" represents a deep emotional bond between the creator and his birthplace, where the poetic Mbojo lyrics and touching melody depict longing, pride, and commitment to preserving Bima culture. This song not only serves as a medium of personal expression, but also as a unifying tool for the Mbojo community and an educational tool that strengthens awareness of the importance of preserving local cultural heritage amidst the currents of globalization.

Abstract

Waste management issues remain a significant environmental challenge, particularly in urban and coastal areas, due to population growth, changes in lifestyle, and limitations in effective waste management systems. These conditions contribute to environmental degradation, increased health risks, and threats to coastal ecosystems caused by the accumulation of domestic waste. Selumit Pantai Subdistrict in Tarakan City, as a densely populated coastal area, faces similar problems, which are characterized by low levels of waste segregation and management practices among the community. In response to this condition, the D-IV Health Promotion Study Program of Politeknik Kaltara conducted a community service program through educational and community empowerment approaches in managing household and coastal waste. This activity aimed to enhance community knowledge, awareness, and active participation in implementing environmentally friendly waste management practices. The results indicated an improvement in community understanding and involvement in maintaining environmental cleanliness, which is expected to support the realization of a clean, healthy, and sustainable coastal environment.
