This research is to (1) determine how using TED Talks videos affects students' public speaking performances and (2) ascertain how students view TED Talks videos in the context of English classes, where they are utilized as a teaching tool for public speaking. This study employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental research strategy. First-year MA DDI Lilbanat Parepare students made up the study's population. A basic random selection group of 16 students for the experimental group and 17 students for the control group was used in the study. While the control group employed traditional teaching methods (textbook-centered method), the experimental group received therapy via YouTube TED Talk videos. Pre- and post-tests were used in this study to gather data, and a questionnaire was used to find out how students felt about the YouTube TED Talk video. The analysis of the gathered data was done with SPSS version 26. The average speaking score for the experimental group was 45 on the first exam and 53 on the second, according to the data analysis results. In contrast, the control group's average speaking score on the first and final exams was 40 and 41, respectively. In the post-test fort test, the t-value (8.345) is greater than its t-table value (2.219), and the p-values for the experimental and control groups were both less than α (0.000 < 0.05) and control groups (0.041 < 0.05). This means the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis accepted. This indicates that YouTube TED Talks videos affect students speaking performance. In addition, the perception of the students, obtained through the questionnaire showed that they had a positive view of the YouTube TED Talk Video.

The aims of this research are to find out the types of code-switching, to know the function of code-switching used by the lecturer in online learning at graduate programs, and to know the perceptions of students towards the use of lecturer’s code-switching in online learning at graduate programs. In investigating the research’s topic, the researcher used a mixed method. The subject of this research was the lecturer and students of Universitas Negeri Makassar, at English Education Magister Program. The researcher used observation with an audio-video recorder and questionnaire as instruments in this research. The researcher has drawn three points as the conclusion. The researcher found that the lecturer used 3 types of code-switching, and intra-sentential switching is the dominant type that is used by the lecturer. There were 9 nine functions of code-switching that can be identified in this research, addressee specification, interjection, loanwords, message qualification, transfer of the subconscious markers, proper name, quotations, message reiteration, and personalization versus objectification. Then the researcher found three new functions, those are shows concern for the students, confirming, and reprimanding the students. The researcher also found that the students expressed a positive perspective towards the use of lecturer's code-switching in online classes with a percentage of 96,6%.

This study aims to explore how the implementation of ICT apps influences students’ engagement in speaking class. In the current digital era, ICT apps have become an integral part of education. However, it remains unclear how the use of ICT apps affects students’ engagement in speaking class. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the implementation of ICT apps on students’ engagement in speaking class. Qualitative research with a descriptive design was adapted in this study. The participants were students of the English Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Through a purposive sampling technique, the lecturer and students of Class A were selected as the research participants. The instruments used were observation checklists and notes to collect the data. The researchers used three steps to analyze the data, there were data reduction, data display, drawing and verifying conclusion. The research findings revealed lecturer plays a crucial role in facilitating engagement by providing challenging tasks and opportunities for students to express themselves. Ultimately, high levels of students’ engagement not only contribute to individual learning outcomes but also foster a sense of validation within the university community, promoting broader talent development and interaction among students and staff. This study concluded that the lecturer plays a crucial role in encouraging engagement by providing challenging tasks. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that students assist themselves and their peers in learning speaking with ICT apps. Lecturers can utilize ICT apps in the English teaching and learning process effectively, thus improving the quality of education and preparing students with updated knowledge to adapt to the changing world. Additionally, other researchers can use this study as a reference for recommending study material to increase insight and conduct studies related to the implementation of ICT apps in the speaking class.

This study is a quasi-experimental study aimed at finding improvement in students in teaching English reading skills through previewing, questioning, identifying, reading, and summarizing strategies. The study population consisted of students in Class VIIIA, 15 in the experimental class and 15 in the control class, and all students in Class VIIIB. The research data was collected through the distribution of pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22. The analysis found that the students' performance improved after implementing the Preview, ask question, Identify, Read, and Summarize strategy in the experimental class. The mean score for the experimental class in the pre-test was 66.67, but the mean score for the class after the test was 89.60. Meanwhile, the mean score for the control class in the pre-test was 61.60, increasing to 82.40 using conventional methods. This means that implementing the PAIRS strategy improves students' reading comprehension. The intensity of each is meaningful at literal, interpretive, and critical levels. The phase encouraged the students to practice and improve their reading comprehension.

This research aims to explore the difficulties of Business English Communication students in memorizing English vocabulary and explore the strategies used to overcome these difficulties. Vocabulary mastery is essential for language proficiency, yet students often struggle due to several factors. The research objectives include identifying key challenges and exploring effective strategies students use to overcome them. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with interview and observation data collection techniques, collecting data focused on the meaning and subjective experiences of 4th-semester Business English students in the process of memorizing English vocabulary by involving 6 students. The results show that students have difficulty in memorizing vocabulary in 8 factors: Mispronunciation, Misspelling, The Length of Vocabulary, Multiple Meanings Cause Confusion, Difficult Recognition in Similar Words, Lack of Identifying While Listening, Unfamiliar Words, and Misunderstanding in Catching Non-verbal Cues While Speaking. Despite these obstacles, students utilize strategies such as repetitive practice, contextual learning, and digital tools to enhance vocabulary retention. Conclusions indicate that while students employ effective strategies, long-term retention remains a challenge without consistent practice. Recommendations include providing more practice opportunities, emphasizing phonetics in learning, integrating vocabulary into real-life contexts, and encouraging the use of technology for self-directed learning. These approaches can significantly improve students' vocabulary acquisition and overall language proficiency.
