Abstract

Information about the factors that affect nurses' preparedness in hospitals is currently inadequate. Therefore, knowing the predictors that most influence nurse preparedness for disasters is vital. This study aims to determine the predictor factors that affect the disaster preparedness of nurses at the Padang Hospital. A cross-sectional design method has been used in this study. The selection of respondents was carried out using a purposive sampling technique. The criteria were nurses involved as a team for natural and non-natural disasters, COVID-19, in two public hospitals in Padang. The data collection used the Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tools, Self-Regulation Scale, and Practice Environment Scale-Nursing Work Index. Analysis of the data in this study using the Structural Equation Model. The findings showed that knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness significantly affect disaster preparedness with a p-value of 0.001. Overall, these factors explain 87% of the total variance. Optimizing knowledge and skills in disaster management can improve nurses' preparedness in disasters. The hospital can make structured programs and manage disaster mitigation team resources to increase disaster preparedness.

Abstract

Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, about 32.2% of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) patients reported also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. ACS and DMT2 contribute greatly to the health status and quality of life of patients, thus requiring coordinated management and health education that can improve knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-management behaviors in ACS patients with DMT2. Research on education of ACS patients with T2DM is still limited, so the purpose of this literature review is to evaluate the benefits of education on self-management of ACS patients with T2DM. The databases used are Sciencedirect, Pubmed, Cochrane Library, and Proquest, articles published in the last 5 years. The main keyword combinations used are Acute Coronary Syndrome, Education, Self-Management, and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The first search results found 451 articles, after screening and evaluation, 3 articles met the criteria. The results of the review showed that providing education during face-to-face treatment can improve fasting blood glucose, ACS symptom management, and DMT2 self-management. Education during treatment with 1-2 phone calls and social media affects the patient's ability to manage ACS symptoms at discharge. It also found the impact of continuous education on self-management delivered during follow-up, conducted via telephone, social media applications, and home visits. Thus, health workers are expected to be able to provide education to ACS and DMT2 patients face-to-face, telephone, social media, videos, and education continuously with home visits.

Abstract

The Covid-19 Pandemic, spanning from 2020 to 2022, ushered in unprecedented challenges for the healthcare system, impacting nurses who played a pivotal role in the global and Indonesian responses. Nurses faced emotional exhaustion, diminished job satisfaction, and suboptimal working conditions, compounded by increased responsibilities and monotony in delivering healthcare services. Objective: This study aimed to identify predictive factors influencing the post-pandemic quality of life among nurses in Padang City hospitals. Utilizing purposive sampling, 88 nurses participated, providing data through a demographic questionnaire, Perceived Stress Scale, and Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQoL-21). Nurses' quality of life (p-value = 0.000). Conversely, age, gender, tenure, experience in caring for Covid-19 patients, and career level exhibited no significant correlations. The findings underscore the importance of addressing stress as a determinant of nurses' well-being. Care managers at Padang City Hospital can leverage these insights to enhance nurses' quality of life, ultimately optimizing healthcare delivery to the community. This study offers valuable guidance for healthcare management, emphasizing the need to prioritize stress management interventions to bolster the overall effectiveness of nursing care.

Abstract

This study is a systematic review that aims to evaluate the effect of exercise on mental health, especially in overcoming stress and anxiety. By reviewing a number of studies selected through strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, the review gathered data from a variety of sources including peer-reviewed journals, articles. The data analysis method used is meta-analysis. The results showed that physical activity can significantly reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety. This applies to different types of sports, from aerobics, yoga, to strength training. This therapeutic effect is associated with the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters that play a role in improving mood and reducing tension. In addition, exercise also improves sleep quality and aids in the regulation of circadian rhythms, which directly affect the management of stress and anxiety. The study also found that exercise intensity and duration played a role in its tiveness. Light to moderate exercise, performed regularly, is more effective in reducing symptoms of stress and anxiety compared to sporadic high-intensity exercise. Consistency and continuity in exercise routines prove to be more important than the intensity of exercise performed. However, the study also acknowledged variations in individual responses to exercise. Factors such as age, gender, initial health conditions, and personal preference for the type of exercise can affect how effective exercise is at coping with stress and anxiety in a particular individual. Taken together, these findings provide strong evidence supporting the use of exercise as a non-pharmacological strategy in managing stress and anxiety. The study encourages health practitioners to recommend exercise as an integral part of mental health treatment plans, as well as suggesting further research to explore specific mechanisms behind the psychological benefits of physical activity.
