Abstract

Abstract

Background: Vitiligo is a long-term autoimmune disorder marked by the loss of melanocytes and the formation of white macules. Vitiligo can have an impact on the patient's look and quality of life. The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) is a questionnaire that analyzes the quality of life of skin patients in general, but it is not disease-specific. To assess the quality of life of vitiligo patients in Indonesia, a disease-specific instrument is required. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the validity and reliability of the Vitiligo Quality of Life (VitiQol) questionnaire in Indonesia and translate the VitiQol questionnaire into Indonesian. Methods: Using cross-sectional analytic observation, this study was performed on 39 participants with vitiligo at Dr. Soetomo Surabaya between December 2021 and January 2022. The investigation consisted of three phases: the Indonesian translation of VitiQol, testing for validity, and assessing reliability. Result: The VitiQol questionnaire is a valid and reliable questionnaire. Valid with a correlation coefficient between 0.40 and 0.80 and reliability close to perfection. There was a significant correlation between VitiQol and DLQI (r=0.511, p=0.001). Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, the Indonesian VitiQol is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the life quality of vitiligo patients in Indonesia.

Abstract

Introduction: Medical students have higher psychological pressure compared to students from other majors. Excessive levels of stress can cause physical and mental problems, lower self-esteem, and interfere with academic achievement. Stress has a significant correlation with academic grades. Objective:  This study aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and academic scores Methods: This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design to analyze the relationship between perceived stress scale and academic scores. Perceived Stress Scale were used to determine stress level and spearman correlation were used to correlate stress level with GPA Results: No variable with a Spearman correlation coefficient above 0.2 was found, so it can be seen that none of the variables has a correlation with GPA. But income per capita has a significant p-value. Discussion: The stress level score with the GPA score has a Spearman correlation of -0.089. The correlation shows an insignificant relationship. This shows that the level of stress shown through the Perceived Stress Scale does not have a significant effect on the academic scores of Airlangga University medical students. Sohail's research (2013) found similar results where most students with stress still passed the exam but there were a small number of students with severe stress who failed. This is different from the results of Kumar et al. (2014) who found that stress levels have a negative effect on academic performance. Conclusion: In this study, no correlation was found between stress levels and academic scores.

Abstract

Introductions: Childhood maltreatment is any form of violence or neglect that occurs against children under the age of 18. Street children are a group that is vulnerable to violence because their activities, for which they spend a lot of time on the streets, make it easier for them to experience violence from both adults and fellow students. One of the impacts can cause mental health disorders, one of which is depression. Objective: Analyze the relationship between childhood maltreatment and levels of depression in street children in Surabaya. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 43 street children from Surabaya City, East Java, Indonesia. Subjects were selected through two stages, namely using the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the International Child Abuse Screening Tool for Children (ICAST-C) to assess depression and childhood maltreatment. Data analysis using chi-square. Results: The results of the study showed that of the 43 respondents, 18 children experienced childhood maltreatment and 31 children experienced moderate depression. The results of the analysis of the relationship between childhood maltreatment and depression levels showed a p-value of 0.481. Conclusion: Childhood maltreatment is not related to the level of depression in street children in Surabaya.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels above the normal range. The global prevalence of DM increased, with over 90% of cases being Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). People attempted various physical therapies, including adopting a healthy lifestyle through dietary adjustments, physical activity, and pharmacological interventions. However, we have not extensively explored non-physical therapies related to personality traits, and the incidence of DM remains high. The Big Five Personality Theory encompasses openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Each personality trait is believed to have specific tendencies toward diseases, emphasizing the importance of identifying the dominant personality traits in T2DM patients. This study aims to identify the dominant personality type in T2DM patients based on the Big Five Personality Theory at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya. Methods: We employed a cross-sectional approach for data collection, using Big Five personality questionnaires as the primary data sources. Results: Among the 68 T2DM patients who participated in this study at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya, from October 2022 to May 2023, the mean age of patients was 51-60 years, with a majority of female participants (63.2%) and male participants (37.8%). The questionnaire results indicated that the dominant personality trait was agreeableness (85.3%). Conclusion: The dominant personality type in T2DM patients, according to the Big Five Personality Theory at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya, was agreeableness (85.3%).

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescents with self-harm behavior are in the spotlight because they are increasing nowadays. Various studies have shown a relationship between self-harm and affective disorders, one of which is depression. Adolescents are also subjects who are prone to feeling lonely. This study was conducted to determine the association between loneliness and depression in adolescents with self-harm behavior at Vocational High School in Kabupaten Malang. Methods: This study used an observational analytic cross-sectional study design with a consecutive sampling technique. The population and sample were students in the 10th and 11th grades (14-18 years old) at a Vocational High School in Kabupaten Malang. Self-harm behaviors are questioned using the Self-Harm Inventory (SHI). Loneliness levels are measured using the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version-3 (UCLA-3). Meanwhile, depression rates are evaluated using the Patient Health Questionnaire -9 (PHQ-9). Statistics will be tested using Chi-square analysis. Results: Approximately 25% of subjects tended to do self-harm, and 101 of them had mild symptoms of depression. The results of the chi-square independence test showed that χ2(4)=253.663 p=0.000. A moderate degree of loneliness was experienced by 32.31% of students or as many as 95 students. The chi-square independence test showed that χ2(3)=216.359 p=0.000. Discussion: Few research, nevertheless, have painted a picture of adolescent loneliness, suggesting that both loneliness and depression may be risk factors for young people to harm themselves. This study showed a strong correlation between loneliness and self-harm. Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between self-harm, depression and loneliness. Abstract

Introduction: Bereavement in children and adolescents was a common life event, but often unrecognized. It is potentially followed by a reaction of grief. Bereavement may cause feelings of loneliness, which is associated with poor mental well-being. This study aims to understand the impact of loneliness on bereaved children and adolescents. Methods: Literature Review. Results: Childhood loss is a significant social and public health problem associated with developmental disorders — including relational, academic, and occupational functioning — as well as an increased risk of mental health problems. Loneliness occurs in childhood and adolescence is a risk factor for poorer well-being. Loneliness in children and adolescents is a risk factor for depression, social anxiety, behavioral disorders, hyperactivity, substance abuse, suicide, and premature death. Studies showed more than 50% of mental health problems develop during childhood and adolescence, with the average age being 14.5, and poorer well-being resulting from loneliness has a long-term impact on health and well-being during adulthood. Conclusions: Bereavement during childhood and adolescence period is a risk of loneliness, which is associated with a variety of mental and behavioral health problems, decreased academic performance, and impairments in developmental tasks. Early prevention and intervention are needed to reduce the risk of disorders later in life and to increase resilience among bereaved children and adolescents. Abstract

Introduction: Loneliness among college students is quite prevalent. Students in their early years experience a transition period when entering university. Conditions with a new living environment, a new social environment, adjustments to peer relations, and a new academic atmosphere, support the occurrence of loneliness conditions in students. This study aims to understand loneliness in college student Methods: Literature ReviewResults: College students have a greater risk of experiencing loneliness. The impact of loneliness on students is also quite significant, both physically and psychologically. Loneliness can affect mental conditions of depression, anxiety, suicide, and low self-esteem which will ultimately lead to a decrease in quality of life. The physical effects of loneliness can also result in prolonged feelings of fatigue, limited physical activity, cardiovascular disorders, and unhealthy lifestyles which ultimately also have an impact on decreasing quality of life. Intervention and prevention to overcome loneliness are urgently needed, such as improving social skills, overcoming and adapting maladaptive social cognition, increasing social support, mindfulness interventions, and improving friendships. Conclusions: Prevention programs for loneliness are very important to implement. Such an intervention could help reduce the burden of the disease in students’ future professional lives. Abstract

The phenomenon of bullying is a serious problem for child development in Indonesia. Bullying cases in Indonesia are ranked fifth in Indonesia world in bullying incidents (Jayani, 2019). Violence against students at school is a topic of discussion mainstream in the media. The incidence of bullying is 10-60% of children who receive ridicule, ridicule, expulsion, kicking or pushing at least once a week. Cases of bullying in Children can occur anywhere, anytime and by anyone. This makes this case still high incidence rate (Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia, 2020). If this bullying incident continues for a long time, it will have an impact on the victim of bullying, both physically, psychologically and socially. The bullying case at Ketabang Seruni Elementary School Surabaya is of particular concern to the school principal. During break time, students are often heard making fun of each other, and there are friends who are alone because they are ostracized. As a leading public school in the city of Surabaya, hopes that its students can be a good for other schools by implementing free bullying at schools. The solution offered to solve this problem is to provide education to students at Ketabang Seruni Elementary School Surabaya by providing an explanation first about the purpose of the activity, then giving a questionnaire to the students about various things related to the meaning of bullying, types of bullying, causes of bullying, characteristics of perpetrators and victims of bullying, bad impacts of bullying, prevention of bullying, efforts to handle bullying prevention. Education is provided by providing materials using powerpoint media, leaflets and posters which are pasted on the school walls as a means of reminder for the entire community at school, including students, teachers, employees and parents. The result of this activity is that there is an increase in students' understanding of bullying and good practices are obtained by changing the way students socialize to be better and more polite. Abstract

Intellectual disability (ID) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that requires early and accurate diagnosis. This study aims to improve the efficiency of ID diagnosis using a machine learning approach. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) model optimized with Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) was developed and trained using data from questionnaires completed by 101 families/guardians of ID patients at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. The features used include family history, cognitive abilities, and adaptive behaviors. The results showed that the GWO-SVM model achieved an accuracy of 95% in classifying ID patients, an improvement of 5% compared to the conventional SVM. The GWO algorithm successfully optimized the parameters in SVM, resulting in a model with the best performance. These findings indicate the potential of GWO-SVM as an effective and efficient tool for assisting in the diagnosis of ID.
