Abstract

Kata Kunci : Proposal Skripsi, Kesalahan Tata Bahasa, Jenis Kesalahan, Sumber Kesalahan Scientific writing is a kind of writing used to share information about a study that has been conducted by a researcher. In the process of writing, there are several important aspects that should be considered by a writer. One of those aspects is grammar. It has important role in the writing because it controls every structure of sentences in order to show the quality of the writing. In fact, grammatical errors are still committed by EFL students in their writings especially in writing thesis proposal as a part of scientific writing. This study aimed at analyzing types and sources of grammatical errors committed by the eighth semester students of English Language Education at Ganesha University of Education in writing thesis proposals. There were 24 proposals taken by the researcher as the sources of data in this study. In analyzing the types of grammatical errors, there were two theories employed the researcher such as the theories from Dulay, Burt & Krashen (1982) and Zarahweh (2012). It was found that there were 1454 errors which generally divided into four types of errors. The most common errors committed by the students in their thesis proposals were omission (44.9%), followed by misformation (17.9%), addition (34.7%), and misordering (2.6%). Those errors were caused by two factors namely interlingual and intralingual. From the total number of errors, the intralingual factor played the highest factor affecting the students in committing errors. Abstract

Not all teachers can operate computers or gadgets in online learning activities. Another problem is that the teacher finds it difficult to control every activity and student response to the material. This is due to the absence of learning discussions and the absence of students in the middle of the class. The purpose of this study is to analyze the challenges encountered during online English learning. This type of research is qualitative. This study uses library research methods with library research procedures guidelines. The technique used to collect data is the reduction technique—sources of data derived from scientific articles. The result of the study is that bold learning during the Covid-19 outbreak provides many challenges for students to follow. Internal factors can trigger external problems and vice versa. Internal factors that come from within students include motivation, learning attitudes, study habits, and personal practice. External factors that come from outside the students themselves are related to the environment around students. External factors include the media used by students and the environment in terms of financial problems and the learning environment. Therefore, online learning is still lacking, and other solutions are needed to improve the quality internally and externally.

Abstract

This research conducted a qualitative investigation of the transitivity structure, language use and mood structure of narrative texts written by first semester students at UNIKA St. Paulus Ruteng. The data sources of this study were narrative texts written by students on the English study programme. The researchers investigated the dominant transitivity process and analysed the mood structure of the students’ narrative texts using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The researchers collected data from the curriculum documentation and by interviewing and giving exercises to the students. Furthermore, the instrument was the researchers and the students’ worksheets. The findings showed that six transitivity processes were applied in the students’ writing. The processes were the material process, mental process, verbal process, behavioural process, relational process and existential process. The dominant process used was the material process, since the texts written by the students mostly contained action verbs describing the characters’ physical actions. The second most common process was the relational process, which was followed by the mental process with 34.15%. The verbal process accounted for only 7.41%. The other processes contained in the texts were the behavioural process and the existential process, and affect, status and contact were as mood aspect.
