Abstract

Premature children, or those born before 37 weeks of gestation, are at high risk of experiencing health problems and developmental delays. Proper nutritional care is essential to support their physical growth and cognitive development. Adequate nutrition can help overcome malnutrition that is often experienced by premature children, which can affect long-term health. In addition, growth and development stimulation through social interaction and physical activity also plays an important role in increasing the developmental potential of premature children. This study aims to explore the importance of proper nutritional care and growth and development stimulation in premature children. This study uses a qualitative research method. The data collection technique in this study was through literature studies. The data that has been collected was then analyzed in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that the care of premature infants should begin with the provision of appropriate nutrition. This nutrition comes from breast milk, however, to meet the nutritional needs of premature infants, especially those who are very premature and have very low birth weight, breast milk alone is insufficient, so special formulas such as FSMP premature are needed. In addition, optimal nutritional care needs to be balanced with proper growth and development stimulation. Stimulation in premature babies can be done through various methods, such as physical contact, sound, sight, and movement. The role of parents is very important in supporting children's development, so they need to get accurate information about the appropriate care and types of stimulation.

Abstract

Preterm and low birth weight (LBW) births remain a health challenge in Indonesia, with the prevalence of preterm births reaching 7-16% and LBW babies at 11.5%. Preterm infants are prone to various health complications, such as respiratory distress and infections, which increase morbidity rates. Breastfeeding is an important strategy in the care of preterm infants because it contains components that strengthen the immune system, prevent health complications, and support optimal growth and development. This study aims to provide more specific scientific evidence on the effectiveness of breastfeeding in reducing the risk of health complications in preterm infants. The results showed that breastfeeding plays a crucial role in reducing morbidity rates in premature infants, as it contains nutrients, antibodies and growth factors that strengthen the infant's immune system. Exclusive breastfeeding helps reduce the risk of complications such as gastrointestinal infections and respiratory distress, which premature infants often experience. In addition, breastmilk supports brain and nervous system development, increasing preterm infants' chances of healthy growth and development, making it an important intervention in efforts to reduce morbidity rates in preterm infants.

Abstract

PLN is the electricity company that distributes electricity to customers, always tries to improve the quality of system reliability. So, it can continue to distribute electrical energy to customers and reduce the decline in Energy Not Supplied (ENS) on the PLN side. One way for PLN to avoid blackouts to the customers, especially premium customers, from planned or unplanned blackouts by installing an Automatic Change Over Switch (ACOS) on the incoming customer side. This paper aims to analysis of electrical system reliability for premium customers after Installation of Automatic Change Over Switch (ACOS). Data collection was carried out on the premium customer of 328 electricity distribution system supplied by the Senangin Feeder or Abadi Feeder from GI Garuda Sakti, Pekanbaru with a power transformer capacity at TD#4 of 60 MVA with a feeder length of 10.25 KMs using medium voltage cable channels, with a radial system. From the results of calculations carried out on the Senangin feeder, which supplies electrical energy to customers, the SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) index value was 71,647 outages/year in 2018 and SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) was 3.44 hours/year in 2018, while the Energy Not Supplied (ENS) value in 2018 was 33,781.83 kWh and 5,124.36 kWh in 2019.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia, with a 21.5% prevalence in 2023, impacting children’s development and the nation’s human capital. This study aims to provide additional findings on nutritional status of Indonesia under five children in Cianjur and Klaten. Methods: This study conducts a secondary data analysis of survey data among healthy under five children of blue collar workers in 2 areas (Cianjur and Klaten) in Indonesia with a cross-sectional design and combines with existing nutrition status in Indonesia. Various statistical analysis methods were performed accordingly to obtain insights in refining and scaling up stunting prevention strategies. Results: Overall, 236 under five children of blue collar workers were enrolled in this study. We observed that Cianjur has higher under nutritional status overall than Klaten. The Cianjur region have higher underweight status (10.8%), higher stunting status (20.4%), and higher wasting status (4.3%) compared to Klaten (7.7%, 16.8%, and 2.1%, respectively). In comparison with the prevalences of under nutrition coming from latest national survey, Cianjur found to be has lower underweight status (7.0%), lower stunting status (11.4%) and lower wasting status (3.4%) than Klaten (18.6%, 24.5%, and 7.5%, respectively). There is no significant difference stunting proportion between the two areas. Findings from this survey may reflect the impact of initiatives done by local government in reducing the impact of undernutrition (including stunting) among blue collar workers’ children. Conclusion: This study highlights the positive impact of Indonesia’s stunting prevention programs. Further research is needed to strengthen evidence and refine strategies for better child nutrition and health.

Abstract

Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a global health concern, particularly affecting women and children. Both genetic and dietary factors contribute to iron absorption and status. Understanding these interactions is vital for effective prevention strategies. Methods: This narrative review examined literature from Scopus-indexed journals (2005–2024) to explore the influence of TMPRSS6 gene polymorphisms—particularly rs855791 and rs4820268—and dietary components (enhancers and inhibitors) on iron absorption. Results: Genetic variations in TMPRSS6, especially rs855791, are associated with increased hepcidin levels, leading to decreased iron absorption and lower hemoglobin. On the dietary side, ascorbic acid and meat proteins significantly enhance non-heme iron uptake, while phytates, polyphenols, and calcium inhibit it. Food processing techniques such as fermentation andgermination can reduce inhibitor effects and improve iron bioavailability. Conclusion: Iron absorption is influenced by both inherited genetic variations and modifiable dietary practices. A combined understanding of these nature and nurture factors is essential to develop personalized and population-based nutritional strategies to prevent and manage IDA effectively

Abstract

Background: Anemia during pregnancy remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, with a high prevalence and adverse outcomes for both mothers and infants. Iron supplementation and maternal nutritional status are key factors in preventing anemia. This study aimed to examine the association between compliance with iron tablet consumption and nutritional status (chronic energy deficiency) with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Putri Ayu Health Center, Jambi City, involving 100 pregnant women selected using accidental sampling. Data on hemoglobin levels, upper arm circumference (MUAC), and iron tablet intake were collected through interviews and direct measurement. Anemia was defined as Hb <11 g/dL. Nutritional status was categorized based on MUAC <23.5 cm as chronic energy deficiency (CED). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and bivariate (Chi-square) analysis. Results: While statistical associations between CED and iron tablet compliance with anemia were not significant, higher proportions of anemia were observed among women with CED and those who consumed fewer than 30 tablets. Additionally, descriptive trends showed that women who began supplementation early in pregnancy—particularly in the first trimester—were less likely to develop anemia compared to those who initiated later. Conclusions: Although not statistically significant, the findings suggest that poor nutritional status and low adherence to iron tablet supplementation may increase the likelihood of anemia in pregnancy. Early and consistent supplementation, particularly from the first trimester, should be emphasized in antenatal care programs to prevent iron deficiency-related complications.

Abstract

Background: During pregnancy, maternal microbiota transfer and modifiable factors such as diet may contribute to fetal development. This review aims to clarify how maternal gut microbiota and diet interact to influence fetal nutrition and long-term health outcomes. Methods: A literature review was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The search focused on studies investigating the links between maternal gut microbiota composition, dietary patterns, microbial metabolites, and fetal nutrition outcomes. Keywords included “pregnancy”, “gut microbiota”, “nutrition”, “maternal diet”, and “fetal growth”. Results: The maternal gut microbiota undergoes notable changes in late pregnancy, and its composition can be further influenced by external factors. Maternal diet and microbial transfer may impact fetal immune, metabolic, and neurodevelopment processes. Short-chain fatty acids and trimethylamine N-oxide are among key microbial metabolites implicated in fetal development. Although probiotic and prebiotic interventions during pregnancy show promise, current evidence remains limited and inconsistent across populations. Conclusion: Optimizing maternal gut microbiota through diet may support fetal nutrition and developmental outcomes. However, more longitudinal and ethnically diverse studies are needed.

Abstract

Background: Mental disorders affect an individual's ability to cope with life stress, pursue education, work, and contribute to society. Among individuals of productive age, the prevalence of mental disorders reaches 15%. Factors such as age, education level, and gender play a role in influencing vulnerability to mental disorders in this age group. Objective: . This study aims to screen mental disorders experienced by the Indonesian population and analyze the causal factors of various mental disorder symptoms. Methods: This research is a quantitative observational-analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted across all regions of Indonesia in 2023. A total of 2,081 Indonesian residents aged 18 and above participated in this study. Primary data were collected online via Google Forms. The collected data were analyzed univariat, bivariat using chi-square, multivariate using logistic regression, followed by path analysis. Results: The results showed that 84.2% of the participants experienced mental health disorders out of 2,081 respondents. Three variables were identified as the most vulnerable to mental health symptoms among the Indonesian population: female gender, low education level, and productive age (17–35 years). These variables were found to impact different mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, substance abuse, psychotic disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Specifically, individuals aged 17–35 years were more susceptible to anxiety, psychotic disorders, and PTSD. Women were more vulnerable to anxiety, substance abuse, psychotic disorders, and PTSD. Meanwhile, individuals with low education levels were more prone to anxiety and psychotic disorders.Path analysis revealed that psychotic symptoms serve as the culmination of three mental health symptoms. Conclusion: Mental disorder symptoms must be detected and treated promptly, even in mild cases, as all mental disorder variables have the potential to develop into psychosis, which manifests as physical illnesses resulting from psychological disturbances.
