Abstract

The existence of an ancient temple complex called Gunung Kawi in Tampaksiring, Gianyar makes the tourists from many countries visit the place. It encourages the shopkeepers in that area to communicate intensively to the tourists. Sometimes they use communication strategies to help them communicate. This study investigates the types of the communication strategies used by some shopkeepers in Gunung Kawi tourism object in communicating with foreign tourists, the type of communication strategies used most frequently by some shopkeepers and their reasons in applying communication strategies to communicate with foreign tourists. Two main methods used in this study were observation and interview. Five shopkeepers were observed. The findings of this study show that the shopkeepers used eight type of communication strategy namely approximation, circumlocution, clarification request, comprehension check, language switching, paralanguage, topic avoidance, and using pictures or objects. Paralanguage was the communication strategy which was used most frequently. Two main reasons why they applied communication strategies were found. They were to run the communication well and effectively, and to avoid misunderstanding during the communication process.Kata Kunci : Communication Strategies, Shopkeeper Keberadaan kompleks wisata pura Gunung Kawi di Tampaksiring, Gianyar menyebabkan banyaknya kunjungan wisata dari berbagai negara. Hal tersebut menyebabkan para pedagang cinderamata di tempat tersebut terbiasa berkomunikasi dengan para turis asing. Terkadang, mereka menggunakan strategi komunikasi untuk mempermudah komunikasi mereka. Penelitian ini membahas tentang tipe-tipe strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh para pedagang di tempat tersebut ketika berkomunikasi dengan turis asing, tipe strategi komunikasi yang paling sering digunakan ketika berkomunikasi dengan turis asing, dan alasan para pedagang tersebut menggunakan strategi komunikasi ketika berkomunikasi dengan turis asing. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi dan interview dimana lima pedagang diobservasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa para pedagang yang diobservasi menggunakan delapan jenis strategi komunikasi yaitu approximation, circumlocution, clarification request, comprehension check, language switching, paralanguage, topic avoidance, and using pictures or objects. Paralanguage adalah tipe strategi komunikasi yang paling sering digunakan. Ada dua alasan utama tentang penggunaan strategi komunikasi yang dikemukakan oleh para pedagang yaitu untuk membuat komunikasi berjalan lancar dan efektif, serta untuk menghindari kesalahpahaman selama komunikasi berlangsung.keyword : Strategi Komunikasi, Pedagang

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan proses morpologi Dialek Bahasa Bali yang digunakan di Desa Tajen Tabanan. Penelitian ini berbentuk penelitian kualitatif. Data dibagi menjadi tiga domain bahasa, yaitu domain keluarga, domain persahabatan, dan domain lingkungan. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan metode observasi dan metode wawancara (mendengar dan mencatat). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada dua macam proses prefiksasi dan sufiksasi. Prefiksasi adalah proses yang mengalami tambahan awalan. Awalannya adalah {a -}, {ke-}, {me}, dan {N-}. Sementara sufiksasi adalah proses yang mengalami tambahan akhiran. Akhirannya adalah {-e}, {-an}, {-ang}, {-in}, dan {-n}. Prefiks dan sufiks yang melewati proses derifatif, yaitu: prefik {a-}, {me-}, {N-}: dan sufiks {-an}, {-ang}, dan {-in}. Prefiks dan sufiks yang melewati proses inflektif, yaitu: prefiks {a-}, {me-}, {N-}: dan sufiks {-e}, {-an}, {-in}, {-n}.Terpisah dari ini, ada juga proses morpologi dalam bentuk kata ulang dan kata majemukKata Kunci : prefiks dan sufiks, proses derivatif dan inflektif, kata ulang, kata majemuk This study aimed at describing morphological processes of Balinese Dialect in Tajen village Tabanan. This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The data were divided into three language domains, namely: family domain, friendship domain, and neighborhood domain. The data were collected based on three techniques, namely: observing, recording, and interviewing (listening and noting) .The results of the study show that there are two kinds prefixation and suffixation. Prefixation is a process which undergoes an additional prefixes.The prefixes are {a-},{ke-}, {me-}, and {N-}. Meanwhile suffixation is a process which undergoes additional suffixes. The suffixes are {-e}, {-an}, {-ang}, {-in}, and {-n}. The prefixes and suffixes that undergo derivation process include: prefix {ke-}, {me-}, and {N-}; and suffix {-an}, {-ang}, {-in}. The prefixes and suffixes that undergo inflection process include: prefix {a-}, {me-}, {N-}; and suffix {-e}, {-an}, {-in}, {-n}. Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis gerakan dan fungsi gerakan tertentu dalam mengajar dan aktivitas belajar, terutama dalam tiga kegiatan domain, mereka adalah: kegiatan menyapa, kegiatan mengajar dan kegiatan Tanya jawab. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMPN 2 Sawan. Penelitian ini adalah desain dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dimana data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara kualitatif. Ada enam instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data, mereka adalah: catatan lapangan, kamera, checklist pengamatan, pedoman wawancara, handphone dan peralatan menulis. Peneliti melakukan penelitian ini sampai studi jenuh atau tidak ada perubahan dari gerakan yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris. Teori didukung oleh gerakan guru bahasa Inggris yang digunakan di dalam kelas maka peneliti juga ingin mengetahui jenis gerakan dalam tiga kegiatan dan fungsi gesture tertentu dalam tiga kegiatan. Kata Kunci : Kata kunci : gerakan dan aktivitas belajar mengajar Bahasa inggris Abstract This study was aimed at finding out the kinds of gestures and the functions of certain gestures in teaching and learning activity, especially in three domain activities, those were: greeting, delivering and asking & answering activities. This study was conducted at SMPN 2 Sawan. This study was design by using qualitative descriptive approach in which the data collected were analyzed qualitatively. There were six instrument to collect the data, those were: field notes, camera, observation checklist, guidance interview, hand phone and writing equipment. The researcher conducted this study until the study stuck or there was no change of the gesture used by English teacher. The data were transcribed and analyzed to find out the kinds of gestures and the function of certain gestures. Based on the theory from McNeil (2005) there were four types of gesture, and each types had kind gestures. The theory supported by English teacher gestures used in the classroom then the researcher also wanted to find out the kind of gesture in three activities and function of certain gesture in three activities. keyword : Keywords: Gesture, English teaching and learning activities

Abstract

This research aim to: (1) describe kinds of grammatical errors that are most frequently committed by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Denpasar in reservation practice, and (2) explain the sources of errors made by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Denpasar in reservation practice. The subjects of this study were the eleventh grade students of Hotel Accommodation Program at SMK Negeri 3 Denpasar. This research was designed as qualitative descriptive research. This study used video camera, coding sheets, questionnaire, and interview guide as the instruments in collecting data. After the data were collected, the data were transcribed, classified and analyzed, counted, and then the results were described. This study used Abisamra’s and Sawalmeh’s theory to know the types of grammatical errors that commonly made by EFL learners in learning English. The results of this study show that the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Denpasar committed eight types of grammatical errors in reservation practice. These errors were verb error, noun error, adjective error, article error, pronoun error, preposition error, sentence fragment error, and word order error. There were 344 errors among 30 students were found and verb error as the most frequently errors committed by the students in reservation practice. The sources of errors were found based on Brown’s theory such as interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, context of learning, and communication strategies. Interlingual transfer as the highest reason the students committed errors. It was because the students were interfered by the rules of their native language when they speaking in English. keyword : Grammatical Errors, Reservation Practice

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya bebedaan berarti dalam kemampuan siswa menulis antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi Dialogue Journal dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi konvensional. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 8 SMP N 3 Banjar. Metode Cluster Random Sampling digunakan untuk menentukan sample dari penelitian ini. Kelas VIII.5 dipilih sebagai kelompok experimental yang diajar menggunakan strategi Dialogue Journal, sedangkan kelas VIII.3 dipilih sebagai kelompok kontrol yang diajar menggunakan strategi konvensional. Hasil dari pengolahan data menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelompok experimental menunjukan keterampilan menulis lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa kelompok kontrol. Hal ini dibuktikan dari analisis deskriptif yang menunjukan nilai rata-rata siswa kelompok experimental adalah 75.83, sedangkan nilai rata-rata siswa di kelompok kontrol adalah 62.46. Hasil dari t-test juga menunjukkan bahwa nilai tobs lebih besar dari nilai tcv. Nilai dari tobs adalah 7.256, sedangkan nilai dari tcv adalah 2.02 (α = .05). Ini berarti bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang berarti antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi Dialogue Journal dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi Conventional.Kata Kunci : Strategi Dialogue Journal, Strategi konvensional, kemampuan menulis This study aimed at investigating whether or not there was a significant difference in writing competency between the students who were taught by using dialogue journal strategy and those who were taught by using conventional strategy. The research design of this study was Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Banjar. Cluster Random Sampling was assigned to select the sample of the study.Class VIII.5 was assigned as the experimental group which was taught by using Dialogue Journal Strategy and class VIII.3 as the control group which was taught by using conventional strategy.The result of the data analysis showed that students in experimental group perfomed better writing than students in control group. It was proven by the result of descriptive statistics that showed the mean score the experimental group was 75.83, while the mean score of control group was 62.46. The result of the t-test also showed that the value of the tobs was higher than the tcv. The value of the tobs was 7.256, while the value of the tcv was 2.02 (α = .05). Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang bertujuan menyelidiki 'penguat dalam mengajar anak-anak berusia 4-6 tahun di CH School Jimbaran serta tanggapan siswa terhadap penguatan guru. Subyek penelitian ini adalah guru TK di CH di tahun akademik 2015/2016. Dua kelas yang diambil sebagai sampel yakni Kupu-kupu kecil dan Kupu-kupu. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui beberapa instrumen; mereka adalah: peneliti, perekam video, kamera dan catatan. Setelah mengumpulkan data melalui observasi dan perekaman video, data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru di Anak Rumah Sekolah menggunakan berbagai macam penguatan positif dan negatif dalam bentuk penguatan verbal dan nonverbal. Penguatan positif yang paling sering disampaikan untuk meningkatkan perilaku positif siswa, adalah penguatan lisan positif seperti yang menyatakan kata-kata positif yang baik, sangat baik, dll guru juga digunakan penguatan negatif dalam proses pembelajaran, baik secara lisan dan non-verbal. Penguatan negatif yang paling sering diterapkan untuk mengurangi perilaku negatif siswa, adalah penguatan lisan negatif. Tanggapan terhadap guru siswa bala yang positif. Ada respon yang diberikan lebih lebih banyak respon positif daripada respon negatif.Kata Kunci : reinforcement, response, positive, negative, verbal, non-verbal This study was a descriptive study aiming at investigating the teachers’ reinforcement in teaching children 4-6 years old at Children’s House School Jimbaran as well as the students’ response to the teachers’ reinforcements. The subjects of this research were preschool teachers in Children House in the academic year 2015/2016. Two classes were taken as samples namely Junior Butterfly and Butterfly class. The data of this research were collected through several instruments; those were: the researcher, video recorder, camera and field note. After collecting the data through observation and video recording, they were analyzed descriptively. The result of this study showed that teachers at Children’s House School used various kinds of positive and negative reinforcement in the form of verbal and nonverbal reinforcement. The most frequent positive reinforcements delivered to increase the students’ positive behaviors, was positive verbal reinforcement such as stating the positive words good, very good, etc. The teachers also used negative reinforcement in the learning process, both verbally and non-verbally. The most frequent negative reinforcement implemented to decrease the students’ negative behaviors, was negative verbal reinforcements. The students’ responses toward the teachers’ reinforcements were positive. Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mencari tahu pergantian pola bahasa yang dihasilkan oleh ungkapan penyiar radio di Phoenix Radio. Penilitian lebih mencari persentasi perubahan pola, jenis perubahan pola dan alasan penyiar melakukannya. Data dijelaskan dengan menggunakan cara penjelasan qualitative. Penelitian menggunakan rekaman, wawancara dan observasi untuk memecahkan masalah yang ada. Penelitian di analisis dengan menyalin data, mengkodekan,mengkelompokan dan menghitung data yang di dapat dan di masukan ke dalam table. Peneliti menemukan 0.42% (1) adalah pola pergantian menambahkan diposisi terendah. Yang paling banyak adalah pola pergantian kata 81.78% (193) dan pola perubahan kalimat 17.80% (42) dari 236 pola perubahan dari 946 kalimat. Ada beberapa alasan yang telah di hasilkan sesuai dengan Holmes seperti ciri-ciri istimewa dan topic. Ciri-ciri istimewa dibagi menjadi spesifikasi lawan bicara, tanda pengenal, sopan santun dan status sosial. Pola pergantian bahasa bisa membantu orang untuk belajar bahasa lain melalui memahaminya dalam bentuk konteks kata lalu kalimat.Kata Kunci : Pola pergantian bahasa, ciri-ciri keistimewaan, topik The study aimed to find out switching that produced broadcaster’s speech in Phoenix Radio. The study was focus to find out the percentage of the switching, the types of code switching produced and the reasons underlying the switching. The data explained in the descriptive qualitative research. This study used recording, interviewing and observing to solve the problem. The study was analyzed by transcribing the data, codifying, classifying and calculating the data and inserting to the table. The research was found that the broadcasters were produced 0.42% (1) was tag switching as the less dominant switching. The most dominant was from the intrasentential switching that was 81.78% (193) and intersentential switching was 17.80% (42) from the 236 switching in 946 utterances. There are some reasons that underlying the switching was produced accordance to Holmes such as participant’s features and topic. The participant features involved addressee specification, ethnic identity marker, express solidarity and assert social status. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis metafora yang digunakan pada teks berita di koran Jakarta Post, (2) mengidentifikasi jenis metafora yang paling banyak digunakan, dan (3) mendeskripsikan bagaimana metafora digunakan di setiap segmen berita di koran Jakarta Post. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Objek penelitian ini adalah metafora. Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat koran Jakarta Post yang dipilih secara purposive dengan menggunakan teknik snowball. Dalam mengidentifikasi metafora, metode yang digunakan adalah MIP (Metaphor Identification Procedure). Peneliti, catatan, dan checklist digunakan sebagai instrumen dalam proses pengumpulan data. Data-data tersebut dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat enam jenis metafora yang digunakan pada teks berita di koran Jakarta Post yang meliputi (1) structural, (2) orientational, (3) ontological, (4) anthropomorphic, (5) animal, dan (6) synaesthesia mentaphor. Structural metaphor adalah jenis metafora yang paling banyak digunakan. Structural metaphor juga mendominasi di tiap segmen berita yaitu Headlines, Business Headlines, National, Archipelago, City, World, Business, World Business, Sports, Life Lines, People, dan Bali Daily.Kata Kunci : metafora, teks berita, koran Jakarta Post This study aimed to (1) identify the kinds of metaphor used in the news items of the Jakarta Post newspapers, (2) identify which kind of metaphor that is mostly used, and (3) describe how the metaphors are used among the news segments in the Jakarta Post newspapers. This research was a qualitative study. The object of this study was metaphor. The subjects of the study were four Jakarta Post newspapers selected purposively by using snowball technique. In identifying the metaphor, the method used was MIP (Metaphor Identification Procedure). The researcher, notes, and checklists were used as the instruments in the data collection process. The data were analysed descriptively by using Miles and Huberman model. The results of this study showed that there were six kinds of metaphor used in the newspapers studied. They were (1) structural, (2) orientational, (3) ontological, (4) anthropomorphic, (5) animal, and (6) synaesthesia metaphor. Among those metaphors, structural metaphor was mostly used in the news items of the Jakarta Post newspapers. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kode – kode yang digunakan oleh masyarakat di Desa Air Kuning. Kode yang digunakan dianalisis menggunakan teori dari Steinberg, Chaer dan Romaine. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah masyarakat yang melakukan percakapan berdasarkan tiga domain yaitu, keluarga, tetangga, dan pertemanan. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif yang memberikan gambaran tentang kode – kode yang digunaan oleh tiga domain di Desa Air Kuning. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan interview. Penelitian ini menggunakan observasi partisipasi dimana peneliti menjadi bagian dari penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tiga domain yaitu keluarga, tetangga dan pertemanan tidak mempengaruhi kode yang digunakan oleh masyarakat. Peneliti menemukan 96 kode yang digunakan di Desa Air Kuning. Kode – kode itu di kelompokkan menjadi tag question, kata bantu, bahasa sehari – hari, register, dan kata sapaan. Air Kuning mempunyai kata yok sebagai tag question, 3 kata bantu: budi, sa’a, seh, 6 register: ngujur, ngerawe, deldel, katih, nyambeng, kalbok, 12 macam kata sapaan: icang, awak, nyai, beng, cung, cai, nanang, ketuk, mbok, lik, ruang, dan 74 bahasa sehari – hari seperti,barang, pati, nyai, kelambi, tongtongan, kalijepan, sepedaha, gara, incega, wet. Kode – kode tersebut adalah percampuran antara bahasa Bali dan bahasa Bugis yang mereka sebut sebagai bahas kampung. Kata Kunci : penelitian deskriptif, kode, Desa Air Kuning The study aimed at describing the codes used among people in Air Kuning village. The codes used were analyzed by using Steibergs theory, Chaer theory, and Romaine theory. The subjects of this study were people in terms of three domains namely family, neighborhood, and friendship. This study is a descriptive study which gives description of codes used by three domains in Air Kuning village. The data were collected through observation and interview. This study used participative observation. The result of the study shows that three domains: family, neighborhood and friendship do not influence the way people used the codes. The researcher found 96 codes which were used by people in Air Kuning village. Those codes were separated into question tag, register, form of address and daily languages. Air Kuning has the word yok as the question tag, 3 auxiliaries: budi, sa’a, seh, 6 registers: ngujur, ngerawe, deldel, katih, nyambeng, kalbok, 12 kinds of form addresse: icang, awak, nyai, beng, cung, cai, nanang, ketuk, mbok, lik, ruang, and 74 daily languages such as, barang, pati, kelambi, tongtongan, kalijepan, sepedaha, gara, incega, wet. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis prinsip kesopanan yang digunakan oleh kandidat pada putaran kedua debat pemilihan gubernur DKI Jakarta, meyelidiki alasan dari penggunaan prinsip kesantunan jenis tertentu yang paling sering digunakan oleh kedua kandidat dan menganalisis implikasi dari jenis prinsip kesantunan yang digunakan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data dianalisis berdasarkan prinsip kesopanan yang diusulkan oleh Leech (1983) dan klasifikasi tindakan ilokusi diusulkan berdasarkan Searle (1975) yang dikutip oleh Leech (1983). Data diambil dari transkripsi video putaran kedua debat pemilihan gubernur DKI Jakarta. Jumlah data yang ditemukan sebanyak 195 yang mengandung prinsip kesopanan dari kedua kandidat. Instrumen utama penelitian ini adalah peneliti itu sendiri dan peneliti meminta triangulator untuk menilai data untuk mendapatkan hasil terpercaya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa hanya ada lima jenis prinsip kesopanan yang ditemukan dalam kedua pernyataan kandidat tersebut, yaitu: tact maxim, generosity maxim, modesty maxim, approbation maxim dan agreement maxim. Kedua kandidat sering kali melanggar penggunaan maksim. Pelanggaran maksim kebijaksanaan secara dominan digunakan oleh subjek I, sementara pelanggaran maksim kebijaksanaan sering digunakan oleh subjek II. Semua jenis tindakan ilokusi ditemukan di kedua pernyataan kandidat. Pernyataan asertif dominan digunakan oleh subjek I, sementara subjek II cenderung menggunakan pernyataan komisif. Oleh karena itu, alasan penggunaan prinsip kesopanan tertentu mengacu pada penggunaan tindakan ilokusi. Subjek I memaksimalkan pujian untuk dirinya dengan menyatakan program terbaik yang telah dilakukannya, sementara subjek II memaksimalkan untuk merugikan lawannya dengan mengungkapkan kesalahan subjek I dan kemudian memberikan penawaran tentang program barunya. Memberikan pernyataan komisif nyatanya lebih efektif untuk mendapat perhatian publik karena mereka ingin mendapatkan harapan baru.Kata Kunci : prinsip kesopanan, tindakan ilokusi, putaran 2 debat pemilihan DKI Jakarta This research aimed to identify the types of politeness principles used by candidates during 2nd round of DKI Jakarta governor election debate, investigate the reason of a particular type of politeness principles more frequently used by both candidates and analyse the implications of type of politeness principles used. This research employed descriptive qualitative research. The data were analysed based on Politeness Principle proposed by Leech (1983) and the classification of illocutionary acts was based on Searle (1975) cited by Leech (1983). The data were taken from transcription of 2nd round of DKI Jakarta governor election debate video. The total number of the data found were 195 containing politeness principles from both candidates. The main instrument of this research was the researcher herself and the researcher asked the triangulator to assess the trustworthiness of the data. The result of this research showed that there were five types of politeness principle found in both candidates’ statements, they were: tact maxim, generosity maxim, modesty maxim, approbation maxim and agreement maxim. Both candidates often flouted the use of maxims. Flouting modesty maxim was dominantly used by subject I, while flouting tact maxim was dominantly used by subject II. All types of illocutionary acts found in both candidates’ statements. The assertive were dominantly used by subject I, while subject II tended to use commisives. Therefore, the reason of the use particular politeness principles was referred to the use of illocutionary acts. Subject I maximized praise of himself by stating his best program that had been done, while subject II maximized cost of his opponent by exposing subject I’s mistakes and then gave an offer about his new program. In fact, giving commisives statements were more effective to get public’s attention since they wanted to get a new hope.keyword : politeness principles, illocutionary acts, 2nd round DKI Jakarta election debate
