Abstract

ABSTRACT Adolescent drug abuse is a public health concern influenced by access to substances, peer pressure, and exposure to digital information. This activity aimed to describe Madrasah Aliyah Mannaratul Islam students’ perceptions and knowledge of drug-abuse risks and to assess immediate knowledge change following anti-drug youth cadre training. This community-service evaluation used a qualitative descriptive design with content analysis of verbatim interview responses from 70 students in grades 10–12, supported by univariate analysis of respondent characteristics and pretest–posttest knowledge scores. Most students perceived drugs as deadly and addictive (80%); 93% lived in a complete family structure, and 26% had received counseling during the previous six months. Knowledge scores increased from 87.5% to 96.0% after the educational session. The findings indicate that knowledge improvement should be reinforced through interactive education, digital literacy, stronger family communication, and peer-led intervention grounded in madrasa values. Keywords: Drug Perception, Adolescent Knowledge, Madrasa Prevention, Drug Education.

Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin infestation that can persist in communities when misconceptions, delayed recognition, and incomplete contact management remain unaddressed. This study described general scabies knowledge among participants of a community education activity at Posyandu Seruni, Depok, and mapped descriptive patterns according to education and health-information source. A descriptive quantitative evaluation was conducted during the activity on 9 February 2026. The broader program used a 20-item true/false questionnaire covering general scabies knowledge, pharmacological treatment, clean and healthy living behavior, and safe supportive herbal use. This manuscript analyzes the five-item general-knowledge domain because these responses were the most consistently verified. Correct answers received one point and were summarized using frequencies, percentages, mean, median, and minimum-maximum scores. Among 51 analyzable responses, the mean score was 68.2% (median 80.0%; range 20.0-100.0%). Thirty-two participants (62.7%) were categorized as having good knowledge, eight (15.7%) adequate knowledge, and 11 (21.6%) poor knowledge. Correctness was highest for transmission through shared clothes, towels, and bed sheets (82.4%) and lowest for rejecting the misconception that scabies affects only people who rarely bathe (49.0%). The highest descriptive mean by education was observed in the Diploma/Bachelor group (80.0%), while social media had the highest descriptive mean by information source (76.0%); cadres/Posyandu were the most common source (56.9%) but had a mean of 62.8%. The findings indicate a fairly good baseline with persistent stigma-related misconceptions. Targeted cadre messages and validated paired pretest-posttest evaluation are recommended; program effectiveness cannot be inferred because paired pretest-posttest data were not available for verification.

Abstract

Understanding how the body produces and utilizes energy during exercise is key to enhancing athletic performance and refining training strategies. This systematic review analyzes recent studies on the contributions of the phosphagen (ATP-PCr), glycolytic (anaerobic), and oxidative (aerobic) energy systems in various sports. The review follows PRISMA 2020 guidelines and includes studies published between 2020 and 2025, selected from Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Energy system contributions were evaluated using markers such as oxygen uptake, substrate utilization, blood lactate levels, and ATP turnover rates. The review finds that in high-intensity, short-duration events like the 100m sprint, the phosphagen system accounts for 70%, while glycolytic and oxidative systems contribute 25% and 5%, respectively. In endurance events such as marathons, oxidative metabolism dominates, contributing 85–95% of total energy. Sports with mixed intensity, such as soccer and basketball, show dynamic contributions, with oxidative metabolism at 50–60%, phosphagen at 20–30%, and glycolytic at 15–25%. These results highlight the importance of sport-specific training to optimize energy system interactions and performance.

Abstract

Background: Supplement use is common, but education may omit patient context, interaction screening, adverse effects, and follow-up. This study mapped these needs for a future-ready community-pharmacy and primary-care model. Methods: An exploratory cross-sectional needs assessment included 60 adults in Jakarta and West Java, Indonesia, on 25–26 August 2026. The questionnaire assessed supplement use, safety practices, confidence, patient experience, digital behaviour, and delivery preferences. We summarised frequencies, means, exploratory internal consistency, and Spearman correlations; population inference and causal testing were not intended. Results: Thirty-five (58.3%) used ≥2 supplements; 27 (45.0%) reported a side effect or uncertainty. Risk behaviours included similar-product use (50.0%), long-term use without reassessment (47.5%), and self-increasing the dose (40.0%). Exploratory means were 4.46/5 for patient experience, 4.36 for confidence, and 4.23 for digital readiness; unmet needs were indication/need (56.7%), product selection (65.0%), and adverse effects/red flags (46.7%). Pharmacy counselling, chat/WhatsApp, short video, reminders, and benefit/complaint check-ins were preferred. Conclusion: In this small nonprobability sample, findings suggest a human-led blended pathway using personalised counselling, teach-back, official digital microlearning, and lightweight follow-up. This preliminary blueprint requires co-design, prototype validation, and intervention evaluation.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases, particularly hypertension and diabetes mellitus, require promotive, preventive, early curative approaches, and continuous education. On the other hand, the strong cultural practice of using traditional herbal medicine in Indonesia necessitates pharmacy education to ensure that the utilization of phytotherapy is rational, safe, evidence-based, and does not replace conventional medical therapies. This community service activity aimed to improve public health literacy regarding phytotherapy, the limitations of traditional medicine use, and the importance of early detection and medical consultation. The program was implemented at the Warunggunung Public Health Center, Lebak Regency, Banten, through a pentahelix collaboration. The education provided encompassed the concepts of phytotherapy, safe preparation methods, lifestyle modifications, and patient safety principles. The activity was attended by 60 participants, predominantly female (78%), aged 41–60 years (43%), with an elementary school education level (57%), and housewives (31%). The evaluation results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 58.67 to 63.00, although it was not statistically significant ($p = 0.224$). Nonetheless, the participants' satisfaction level was in the excellent category (mean score of 3.50–3.63 on a 4-point scale). It can be concluded that this pharmacy-based phytotherapy education was well received by the community, but future effectiveness in improving knowledge requires intervention strategies that are more intensive, repetitive, and contextualized to the target audience's health literacy levels.

Abstract

Digital transformation through the implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) has become a key strategy for improving healthcare performance, including hospital pharmacy management. However, empirical evidence comprehensively examining the impact of EMR on operational efficiency, pharmaceutical service quality, human resource competency, and patient satisfaction remains limited. This study aims to analyze the impact of EMR implementation on operational efficiency, pharmaceutical service quality, human resource competency, and patient satisfaction in the context of hospital pharmacy management. This study used a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were obtained from operational performance indicators and patient satisfaction surveys before and after EMR implementation, while qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with pharmacy staff, hospital management, and patients. Analysis was conducted descriptively and thematically to integrate the quantitative and qualitative findings. The results showed that EMR implementation reduced prescription waiting times by almost 28%, increased pharmacy unit productivity by more than 25%, and reduced administrative burdens through documentation efficiency by more than 50%. EMR also improved the quality of pharmacy services by improving service accuracy, completeness of drug therapy documentation, and traceability of patient medication history

Abstract

Introduction: Dengue fever (DF) cases frequently emerge during transitional seasons, such as the current period. Vector control programs for dengue fever commonly rely on chemical methods, which may cause adverse environmental impacts. Recently, environmentally friendly approaches using locally derived bacterial strains have been developed for dengue vector control. Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Bacillus sp. isolated from soil surrounding the campus as an entomopathogenic agent against Aedes aegypti larvae. This research was conducted as a laboratory experimental study, with Bacillus sp. bacteria serving as the subjects to test their pathogenicity against Aedes aegypti larvae. Results and discussion: The results showed that all bacterial isolates resembled Bacillus sp. Among them, isolate B2, obtained from soil under a banyan tree, exhibited the highest larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae, with a pathogenicity rate of 13.3%, while isolates A1 and C2 showed the lowest activity, with pathogenicity rates of 4.0%. Conclusion: The study concluded that none of the Bacillus sp. isolates were effective as entomopathogenic agents against Aedes aegypti larvae, as all larval mortality percentages were below 50%. Further research is recommended to identify Bacillus sp. isolates with higher entomopathogenic efficacy against Aedes aegypti larvae. This could be achieved through broader soil sampling, a larger number of isolates, and extended study durations.
