Abstract

Program Sertifikasi Halal Gratis (SEHATI) telah dicanangkan oleh pemerintah di tahun 2022 ini dan telah tertuang pada Keputusan Kepala BPJPH No.33 Tahun 2022. Program ini dilakukan untuk menjalankan amanat Undang-undang No.33 Tahun 2014 terkait Jaminan Produk Halal sebagai program percepatan sertifikasi produk halal bagi pelaku usaha UMKM. Pusat Kajian Halal (PKH) ITS sebagai salah satu perguruan tinggi yang tercatat berhak melakukan registrasi proses produk halal melalui Keputusan Kepala BPJPH No 65 Tahun 2022 melakukan Pendampingan Produk Halal (PPH) kepada UMKM mitra binaan melalui pelaksanaan program pengabdian masyarakat berbasis produk. Terdapat 23 UMKM binaan yang terdaftar untuk mengikuti kegiatan ini pada bulan Mei 2022. Hanya terdapat 15 UMKM yang lanjut untuk didampingi dalam pendaftaran SEHATI dan 7 diantaranya telah terbit sertifikat halalnya pada rentang bulan Oktober-November tahun 2022.

Abstract

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an acidic and corrosive gas, and the presence of this gas in the piping system can cause various problems in the industrial sector. Therefore, the CO2 must be separated from the gas stream. One of the CO2 gas separation processes from the gas stream is carried out in a CO2 removal unit, where a desorption unit serves as a solvent regeneration step. Therefore, this study aims to develop a rate-based model and simulation of the reactive desorption process of CO2 gas in a sieve tray column. The rate-based model in the reactive desorption process of CO2 gas is based on film theory, the liquid in the tray is assumed completely agitated due to gas bubbling, the flow pattern of gas is plug flow, and the effect of the reaction on the mass transfer follows the enhancement factor concept. The number of trays used in this study was 20. In addition, the effect of several variables, such as: desorber pressure, rich amine temperature, rich amine flow rate, and reboiler load, was also assessed on the CO2 stripping efficiency. The accuracy of our prediction model is 1.34% compared with industrial plant data. Compared with the chemical engineering simulator simulation results, the average deviation is 4%. Abstract

Lactic acid (LA) can be applied commercially in the biodegradable polymer industry. The production of PLA biopolymers requires lactic acid with pure isomers as its raw material, therefore the process of producing lactic acid through biological fermentation pathways is preferred over through chemical synthesis processes that produce mixed (racemic) lactic acid. In general, lactic acid purification process is carried out by several methods including precipitation and distillation. Precipitation is a conventional method for separating fermented lactic acid which is carried out through 2 stages, namely neutralization and acidification. In the process of neutralizing the fermented solution, base is added to precipitate specific lactic acid and then an acidification process is carried out by adding acid to take back the precipitated lactic acid. Distillation of a raw fermented mixture can produce very pure LA. This is an effective method for separating LA from other organic acids. The reactive distillation process is a chemical process in which the chemical reaction and the distillation process are carried out in one unit. In reactive distillation, LA forms esters with alcohols in the presence of an acid catalyst. Esters have much lower boiling points than LA. Therefore, separation can be achieved by distillation. In this research, the lactic acid purification process was carried out by combining the precipitation process followed by the distillation process. The lactic acid solution obtained from the precipitation process is then mixed with ethanol and the catalyst is put into the batch distillation column system. Most of the ethanol and water come out as distillate while the residue is fed back into the distillation column system and aqueous lactic acid solution is added for the hydrolysis stage. The distillate products are ethanol and water, while lactic acid is obtained from the residue. In the esterification step, the concentration of ethyl lactate in the residue was measured, while in the hydraulic stage, the level of lactic acid in the residue was measured. In this study, the results of purification of lactic acid from the bases Ca(OH)2, NaOH, and KOH were obtained sequentially, including: 89.07%; 84.21; and 80.56%. The use of Ca(OH)2 base produces higher purity due to higher cation valence and low solubility formed between Ca(OH)2 and lactic acid so that the amount of lactic acid precipitated is greater than the other bases.

Abstract

Purpose – This community service activity aims to provide assistances for Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), specially for food and beverage field, applying halal certification via Halal self-declared (SEHATI) Program. Design/methodology/approach – This program is conducted by recruting and training students as certified halal companion (PPH) by BPJPH. This were done by collaboration between Halal Center Studies of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (PKH-ITS) and ITS Techno Science. The SMEs training for Halal Process held around August 2023. Afterward, all the PPH will be accompanied and assisted the SMEs for applying the halal certificate via SIHALAL system; including preparing the SJPH, entry all the information, submitting the document, verification and validation as well as done the revision untill the halal certificate was finally issued. Findings – The SEHATI program has been started since 2021 and the quota continues to increase every year. However, not every SMEs known this information. It is mandatory for food and beverage, slaughter services, and slaughter products at 17th October 2024 should be halal certified. Therefore, PKH-ITS together with PPH helps and assists SMEs in applying a halal certification through a community service program at 2022. The upgraded facilities of SIHALAL’s website (version 2022) make it more user friendly. The 15 SMEs have certified via the SEHATI22 program with PKH assistances. Originality/value – Though the SEHATI Program is announced by the goverment at 2021, this relatively not well known by the SMEs as the subject of the halal certification. Hence, third party such PKH-ITS need to present for accompanying and assisting the SMEs. The SIHALAL system is used for submitting the application of halal certification. Therefore, highly technology adapted of the PPH are required, for completely assisting the SMEs. Hence, the presence of the PPH in this process is mandatory and vital; increasing the succesibility of the SEHATI program.

Abstract

Masalah belum dimilikinya sertifikat halal dari produk yang dijual oleh UMKM saat ini menjadi hambatan untuk proses pemasaran produk yang lebih luas. Salah satunya UMKM kader PKK kelurahan Dukuh Menanggal yang berada di Kecamatan Gayungan, Kota Surabaya. Kurangnya informasi akan proses sertifikasi halal sangatlah berdampak pada proses percepatan sertifikasi halal. Oleh sebab itu, guna mempercepat sertifikasi halal di UMKM kader PKK Kelurahan Dukuh Menanggal, tim pengabdian masyarakat beserta mahasiswa KKN dari Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember melakukan pendampingan mitra UMKM untuk mendapatkan sertifikasi halal atas produk yang mereka jual. Pada pengabdian ini beberapa kegiatan dilakukan, seperti Forum Group Discussion, sosialisasi, pelatihan kader penggerak halal, pendampingan UMKM untuk sertifikasi halal, dan pemetaan produk UMKM yang telah bersertifikat halal. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu tim abdimas beserta mahasiswa KKN telah mendampingi sebanyak 30 UMKM yang mengajukan sertifikasi halal dengan skema self declare. Kegiatan pendampingan ini diharapkan untuk dilanjutkan kepada para penjual makanan dan minuman di kawasan Sentra Wisata Kuliner (SWK) Surabaya.

Abstract

Perkembangan industri pengemasan makanan di era mendatang akan beralih ke bahan alami dan ramah lingkungan yang bisa diproduksi dari biopolimer seperti pati dan hidrokoloid lainnya untuk mengurangi paparan polusi dari polimer sintetis. Kappa karaginan memiliki sifat yang rapuh, sehingga dibutuhkan plasticizer untuk menghasilkan edible film yang lebih elastis. Jenis plasticizer yang digunakan adalah gliserol. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi gliserol terhadap karakterisasi edible film dari kappa karaginan. Kappa karaginan dengan konsentrasi 1% (b/v) dilarutkan dengan akuades kemudian ditambahkan gliserol dengan variasi konsentrasi 0,5; 1; 1,5, dan 2% (b/v). Edible film kemudian di karakterisasi berdasarkan sifat mekanik, gugus fungsional, ketebalan, kadar air, kuat tarik, elongasi, warna dan opacity. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa penambahan gliserol sebesar 1% dapat meningkatkan sifat mekaniknya, dan film mempunyai 0,146 mm, kadar air 17,90%, kuat tarik dan elongasi 2,53 MPa dan 14,09% dan sifat optik warna dan opacity masing-masing sebesar 96,96% dan 1,32.

Abstract

Sejak lama Negara Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam industri halal karena mayoritas penduduknya memeluk agama Islam. Langkah pemerintah Indonesia semakin jelas terlihat dengan diberlakukannya UU No. 33 tahun 2014 dan PP No. 31 tahun 2019 tentang Jaminan Produk Halal (JPH) yang mengatur perubahan sistem prosedur dan registrasi sertifikasi halal dari bersifat sukarela menjadi wajib sejak 17 Oktober 2019. Hal tersebut berdampak pada seluruh pelaku usaha. Tak terkecuali pelaku UMKM binaan dari Koperasi Wanita Setia Bhakti Wanita Surabaya. Koperasi Wanita yang berdiri sejak 1975 telah memiliki 13.615 anggota dan ratusan binaan UMKM. Pelaku UMKM binaan Kopwan SBW belum mengetahui pentingnya sertifikasi halal dan prosedural pendaftarannya. Oleh karena itu, peran perguruan tinggi hadir dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat untuk mendampingi para UMKM binaan Kopwan SBW mengurus sertifikasi halal. Terdapat 4 strategi kegiatan yang dilakukan dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini. Strategi yang pertama yaitu berdiskusi dalam rangka menyampaikan ide gagasan jangka pendek dan Panjang kepada pengurus Koperasi Wanita Setia Bhakti Wanita Surabaya. Strategi selanjutnya adalah mendaftarkan para UMKM binaan dalam pelatihan Kader Penggerak Halal (KPH) yang dilaksanakan kolektif oleh Pusat Kajian Halal ITS. Setelah itu melakukan visitasi dan pendampingan langsung kepada masing-masing UMKM binaan dan strategi yang terakhir adalah pemetaan binaan UMKM dalam mengikuti program bimbingan teknis audit halal atau program sertifikasi halal gratis (SEHATI). Harapan dari pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah dapat memberdayakan para binaan UMKM untuk bersaing produk halal di industri halal dalam skala internasional.

Abstract

Asbuton is a rock contain of the bitumen. Asbuton can be used as road construction alternatives after extracting bitumen from the mineral. A method for separating bitumen is separation process using hot water medium. The process was carried out in a stirred tank, 200 grams of asbuton was mixed with diesel oil and added by hot chemical solution (surfactant) in the digestion tank. The separation process in the extractor was made at 900C and time set was 30 minutes. Surfactan concentration and the speed of stirrer were set according to the variable. After the process completed, the mixture was moved into a beaker glass and 500 ml hot water was added. The mixture of diesel oil and bitumen will float in the surface then the density will be measured to determine the bitumen concentration. It can be concluded that concentration of surfactant solution and speed of stirrer have the significant results. The highest recovery percentage of bitumen is 81,99 %. Abstract

Falling film evaporator is a constructed equipment for concentrating dilute solution that are sensitive to heat flowing form a thin film. This research aims to study the evaporation of cane juice concentrated with air flow on falling film evaporator and knowing evaporation rate occured in falling film evaporator used. In the process, cane juice from plant pumped to the falling film evaporator that used in this experiment. This research used concentrated cane juice and air flow rate for variables of this experiment. Cane juice flow from top of evaporator through distributor to form thin film and air flow from the bottom of evaporator. After that, temperatur of pipe wall, inlet and outlet temperature of cane juice and air were measured. This experiment concluded that the highest concentration of outlet solution is 59 brix for liquid flow rate 154 l/h and air flow rate 10 m3/h, and the other hand inlet solution concentration 51 brix. Optimum evaporation rate is 35 kg/m2.h for 51 brix and air flow rate 10 m3/h. Keywords: Concentrated cane juice, Evaporator, Evaporation rate, Falling film.

Abstract

Formic acid can be produced by a fermentation process, producing an aqueous solution in the form of a fermentation broth. The separation of formic acid from water is challenging due to the presence of an azeotropic mixture. The aim of this research is to predict the liquid-liquid equilibrium data using the universal functional activity coefficient (UNIFAC) model for formic acid + organic solvent + water systems at 298.15 and 323.15 K and atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa). The liquid-liquid equilibrium data are required as a reference for optimal design of formic acid extraction process. This research also introduces new two-phase systems for the separation of formic acid from aqueous solution and expands the scope of thermodynamic studies on formic acid extraction. The extraction performance was in the order of MIPK > 2-hexanone > MIBK. The temperature has no significant influence on the extraction performance. The prediction of formic acid + water + MIBK system at 298,15 K and atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa) was also compared with the experimental data with the RMSD 9,76 %. This result represented that UNIFAC was a reliable model for the prediction of liquid-liquid equilibria of system involving formic acid.
