Abstract

Abstract : this study is conducted to analyze the students? speaking performance in giving presentation. The technique used in this research is direct technique with direct observation of behavior. Tools of data collecting used are rubric, observation sheet and video recorder. The method applied is descriptive study. Based on the observation result, the data of content aspect showed that 16 students (64%) get ? 2 score, 7 students (28%) get score between 2.1 ? 2.5, and only 2 students (8%) get score ? 2.6. Then from the result, the data of delivery aspect showed that 11 students (44%) get score between 2.1 ? 2.5, 10 students (40%) get score ? 2, and 4 students (8%) get score ? 2.6. Based on those result, it can be concluded that the third semester students of English Education Study Program of FKIP Untan Pontianak in academic year 2014/ 2015 especially the students who were in Class B of Speaking for Academic Presentation have moderate abilities of speaking performance in giving presentation. Keywords : Speaking Performance, Presentation Abstrak : Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis kemampuan siswa dalam memberikan presentasi. Teknik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik langsung dengan pengamatan perilaku langsung. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah rubric, lembar observasi dan perekam video. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil penilaian berdasarkan muatan presentasi yaitu 16 siswa (64%) mendapatkan skor ? 2, 7 siswa (28%) mendapat skor antara 2.1 ? 2.5, dan hanya 2 siswa (8%) mendapatkan skor ? 2.6. kemudian hasil penilaian berdasarkan penyampaian yaitu 11 siswa (44%) mendapat skor diantara 2.1 ? 2.5, 10 siswa (40%) mendapat skor ? 2, dan 4 siswa mendapat skor (8%) mendapat skor ? 2.6. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa semester III Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Untan Program Studi Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2014/ 2015 terutama siswa yang berada di kelas B Berbicara dalam Presentasi Akademik memiliki kemampuan moderat. Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research was to answer the problems about how does local legend improve students? reading comprehension in comprehending the detailed information, finding the meaning of words, and drawing the conclusion about moral value of narrative text to the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Sungai Raya Bengkayang. This research was classroom action research. The data of this research were taken from the students? score and the notes were taken through observation schedule. The total number of students was 26 students. The research finding indicated that students? ability in comprehending narrative text using local legend was improved. Students? prior knowledge about local legend improved students? ability in comprehending the detailed information by asking students to arrange the random paragraph and give students testing activity, the familiarity of the words were used in local legend improved students? ability in predicting the meaning of vocabulary by asking the students to guess the meaning of the word based on the context and the environment of local culture values of local legend improved students? ability in drawing conclusion about moral value of narrative text by giving an opportunity to discuss and to conclude the lesson. It can be proven from students? mean score result in cycle 1 to cycle 3. In the first cycle, students? mean score was 48. 6, it was 64. 2 in second cycle and it raised to 78. 4 in the third cycle. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, Local Legend   Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab masalah mengenai apakah legenda  lokal meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam memahami informasi rinci, menemukan arti kata dan menarik kesimpulan mengenai pesan moral dalam teks naratif di kelas delapan SMPN 3 Sungai Raya Bengkayang. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Data diperoleh dari nilai siswa dan catatan observasi diperoleh melalui jadwal observasi. Jumlah siswa adalah 26. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks naratif menggunakan legenda lokal meningkat.  Pengetahuan siswa sebelumnya tentang legenda lokal meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam memahami informasi rinci dengan meminta siswa menyusun paragraf acak dan memberikan latihan soal, kosakata yang sudah diketahui sebelumnya yang digunakan dalam legenda lokal meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memprediksi arti kosakata dengan meminta siswa menebak arti kata berdasarkan konteks, dan nilai-nilai budaya lokal di lingkungan sekitar dari legenda lokal meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menarik kesimpulan pesan moral dari teks naratif dengan memberikan kesempatan untuk berdiskusi dan menyimpulkan pelajaran. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dari hasil rata-rata perolehan nilai siswa di siklus 1 hingga 3. Pada siklus pertama, rata-rata perolehan nilai siswa adalah 48. 6, 64. 2 di siklus kedua dan meningkat menjadi 78. 4 di siklus ketiga.   Kata Kunci: Pemahaman Membaca, Teks Naratif, Legenda Lokal

Abstract

AbstractVocabulary problem is the common problem faced by many students in writing. The restricted vocabulary will affect the students’ English skill. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of boggle game can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text to the VII C grade students’ of SMP Negeri 1 MempawahHilir in academic year 2015/2016. The method in this research is classroom action research. The research was conducted in three cycles. The subject of this research consisted of 28 students who belonged to VII C grade of SMP Negeri 1 MempawahHilir in academic year 2015/2016. In collecting the data, the writer used observation checklist and field notes. By conducting the classroom action research, it is found that the use of boggle game improved students’ vocabulary in spelling aspect by linking the letters. Boggle game also improved meaning aspect by translate and re-write. The improvement showed in every cycle. On the first cycle there were 32,2% of students who had passed KKM score. On the second cycle improved to 67,8%. On the third cycle improved to 92,9%. In conclusion, the student’ vocabulary in descriptive text had improved by using boggle game. In other words, boggle game can help the students in spelling and meaning aspect which help them in writing descriptive text.Keywords : Boggle game, Improve, Vocabulary, Descriptive Text

Abstract

Abstract: This study was a classroom action research (CAR) to improve students writing ability on report text in senior high school students. In this study, Peer Response Technique was used as a strategy to help students in writing report text. The process of Peer Response Technique consists of revising activity which helped the students to write the generic structure of report text such as general classification and identification and editing activity that helped the students to write the language features of report text by checking the use of vocabulary and grammar. The techniques of data collecting in this research were observation checklist, field note, and writing test. Data was analyzed by using scoring profile. The students writing ability in report text improved in three cycles from 55.86 in cycle 1 then improved to 61.89 in cycle 2 and up to 68.73 in cycle 3. The improvements of this study were particularly in students writing on generic structure and language features of report text. Abstrak: Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (CAR) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan siswa dalam menulis sebuah teks report pada siswa sekolah menengah atas. Dalam penelitian ini, tehnik Peer Response digunakan sebagai strategi untuk membantu siswa dalam menulis teks report. Tehnik Peer Response terdiri dari aktivitas merevisi yang membantu siswa dalam menulis bentuk umum dari sebuah teks report seperti mengklasifikasikan dan mendeskripsikan sebuah topik dan editing untuk membantu siswa dalam menulis ciri kebahasaan dari sebuah teks report dengan memeriksa kembali penggunaan kosa kata dan gaya bahasa di dalam teks. Tehnik pengumpulan data yang digunakan meliputi lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan tes menulis. Hasil data penelitian dianalisis berdasarkan rubrik penilaian. Kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks report mengalami peningkatan pada tiga siklus dari 55,86 pada siklus pertama kemudian meningkat menjadi 61,89 pada siklus kedua dan mencapai 68,73 pada siklus ketiga. Peningkatan yang dialami siswa dalam penelitian ini umumnya pada kemampuan menulis bentuk umum dan ciri kebahasaan dari teks report. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini adalah tentang meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa menggunakan ekspresi bertanya dan memberikan pendapat melalui role play. Adapun metodologi yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang meliputi 3 (tiga) cycle. Subjek penelitian adalah kelas 8 (delapan) SMPN 2 Mandor yang terdiri dari 34 orang siswa. Dengan menggunakan teknik role play para murid dapat memainkan karakter dengan menggunakan skrip yang telah disiapkan. Disamping itu, disamping itu, para murid dapat merefleksikan kegiatan role play untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Untuk menyelesaikan penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan observasi, test kemampuan berbicara, test grammar, tes kosa kata dan field note dengan menggunakan teknik role play perlahan-lahan kemampuan berbicara siswa meningkat demikian pula kosa kata, grammar dan pengucapan mereka.Pencapaian siswa dalam setiap cycle adalah 53.17 untuk cycle 1, 62.74 untuk cycle 2 dan 77.92 untuk cycle3. Kata Kunci: bermain peran, ketrampilan berbicara. Abstract: This research is about improving students speaking skills to express asking and giving opinion through role play. The methodology of this research is a classroom action research which consisted of 3 cycles. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Mandor consisting of 34 students. By applying role play technique in asking and giving opinion, the students played their character using prepared scripts. In addition, the students reflected that role play activity could improve their speaking skill. Meanwhile, in collecting the data, the writer used the observation, speaking performance test, grammar test, vocabulary test and field note through role play technique, the students gradually increased their speaking skill as well as vocabulary and they also paid attention to an appropriate grammar and a proper pronunciation. The result from each cycle (53.17 on cycle 1, 62.74 on cycle 2 and 77.92 on cycle3). Even students fulfilled KKM (standard achievement) on cycle 2. Key Word: role play, speaking skill. .

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitianinimenggunakanmetode quasi-experimental yang bertujuanuntukmeningkatkansiswadalammenulisteks hortatory exposition. Dalampenelitianini, teknik Tree Diagram digunakanuntukmengetahuikeberhasilanteknikinidalammenulisteksargumen. Sampelpenelitianiniadalahsiswakelas XI IPA 4 yang terdiridari 38 siswasebagaikelompokekperimendansiswakelas XI IPA 5 yang terdiridari 38 siswasebagaikelompokpengontrol di SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya. Hasil dari t-test adalah t-value (10,5) lebih tinggi dari t-table (2,660).Effect size dari penelitian ini adalah modest effect dimana hasil dari penghitungan adalah (0,40). Oleh karena itu, dapat di simpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik Tree Diagramdapatmeningkatkanpenulisanteks argument siswadalammengorganisirdanmengembangkan ide-ide. Abstract

Abstract The researcher conducted a research about teaching simple past tense in writing recount text by using inductive method. The purpose of this research was to investigate how inductive method improved the use of simple past tense in writing recount text. Based on the students’ problems in the class, the researcher used a classroom action research as the method of research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students in class A of MTsN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2016/2017. The result of this research showed that there was an improvement of students’ correct use of simple past tense in writing recount text. It was known from the observation and students’ writing assessment. In conclusion, the use of simple past tense in writing recount text improved by using inductive method. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to describe what the major problems are faced by English teachers in implementing scientific method in their classrooms. The method used was case study. The participants of this research were three English teachers of SMAN 3 Pontianak. The writer used questionnaire, class observation, and interview to collect the data. The result showed that the teachers faced problems in implementing scientific method with the average of the implementation was only 64,8% was able be implemented. The most problematic stage was in questioning which was only 60% implemented. Moreover,  experimenting stage was only 63% implemented. Another stage with the same percentage of implementation, networking stage which was only 63% can be implemented. Furthermore, in observing stage it was only 67%. Associating stage was the highest stage that can be implemented by the teachers with the percentage was only 70%. In conclusion, the major problem in implementing scientific method for English teachers was in questioning stage. Keywords: English Teachers, Problems, Scientific Method, Implementation. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apa masalah utama yang di hadapi guru bahasa inggris dalam mengimplementasikan metode ilmiah. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus. Peserta penelitian ini adalah tiga guru bahasa di SMAN 3 Pontianak. Penulis menggunakan kuesioner, observasi kelas, dan wawancara untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru menghadapi beberapa masalah dalam pengimplementasian metode ilmiah dengan rata-rata pengimplementasian hanya 64,8%. Tahapan yang paling bermasalah adalalah tahapan bertanya dengan diimplementasikan hanya 60%. Selain itu, tahapan mengumpulkan informasi diterapkan hanya 63%. Tahapan lainnya dengan persentasi yang sama adalah mengkomunikasikan dengan pengimplementasian hanya 63%. Selanjutnya, tahapan mengamati hanya 67%. Tahapan mengasosiasi merupakan tahapan dengan persentase tertinggi diimplementasikan oleh guru dengan hanya 70%. Kesimpulannya, masalah utama dalam pengimplementasian metode ilmiah untuk guru bahasa Inggris adalah dalam tahapan menanya. Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted based on the problems in teaching learning process. The students had problems to comprehend the information in the generic structure of the narrative text, they were lack of vocabulary, and they did not know how to use reading strategies to comprehend narrative text. The purpose of this research was to investigate how Questions Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy enhanced students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the Ninth Grade students of SMPN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The research was conducted through Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The participants of this research were the ninth grade English teacher and 38 students in class IX B. The writer used observation, and measurement technique to collect the data. The writer elaborated the result of observation checklist, field note, and students’ mean score, in order to get the research findings. The result showed that students could comprehend a narrative text through QAR strategy. QAR strategy improved students’ vocabulary, students’ understanding of information in the narrative text, and students’ understanding in applying reading strategies. In the first cycle, the students’ mean score was 58.8, it increased to 68.6 in the second cycle, and it increased to 80.3 in the third cycle. In other words, Question Answer Relation (QAR) strategy improved students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. Keywords: reading comprehension, narrative text, Question Answer Relationship strategy

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab masalah mengenai apakah strategi piramida cerita meningkatkan kemampuan membaca dalam menemukan informasi nyata dan terperinci dan memahami tata bahasa dalam teks naratif di kelas X SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Pontianak. Penulis menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Alat yang di gunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah tes tertulis, field notes dan observation checklist. Pada siklus pertama, penulis menggunakan strategi piramida cerita sebagai strategi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca dalam menemukan informasi nyata dan terperinci dan memahami tata bahasa dalam tek naratif. Penulis menggunakan media gambar dan table sebagai strategi pembantu dan nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 45. Pada siklus kedua penulis menggunakan strategi piramida cerita di bantu oleh questioning dan guided question dan nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus ini adalah 67.1. Penulis menggunakan strategi piramida cerita pada siklus ini di bantu oleh media gambar, guided question dan jumble word pada siklus terakhir dan nilai rata-rata siswa pada sisklus ini adalah 79.8. Kata kunci : teks naratif, strategi piramida cerita Abstract: This research is intended to answer the problem about how does story pyramid improve reading comprehension on finding out factual or detail information and understanding language feature on narrative text to the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Pontianak. The writer has conducted a classroom action research. The tools of data collection used written test, field note and observation checklist. On the first cycle the writer used story pyramid strategy as a strategy to improve the students reading comprehension on finding out the factual or detail information and understanding language feature on narrative text. The writer used picture and table as helping strategy in this cycle and the students mean score was 45. In the second cycle the writer used story pyramid strategy helped by questioning and guided question and students mean score was 67.1. The writer used story pyramid strategy helped by picture, guided question and jumble word in third cycle and the students mean score in this cycle was 79.8.
