Abstract

AbstractThis research is aimed to improve the students’ reading comprehension on recount text through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method, especially identifying details of story elements, understanding of simple past tense, and vocabulary.  CIRC is one of the methods of cooperartive learning strategies to teach reading and writing consisting of three main activities: basal related activities, direct instruction in reading comprehension, and integrated languages arts and writing. This action research was conducted in three cycles. The data were derived from reading comprehension test, observation checklist, and field note. The subjects were 25 students in SMP N 3 Sambas in Academic Year 2015/2016. The data revealed that the students were enthusiastic and active in the class. The result of this research showed that CIRC could improve the students’ reading comprehension after three cycles. Using question and answer cards in story grammar and story related writing, the students could improve their ability in finding the detail information in term orientation, event, and re-orientation of recount text. The students could improve understanding of simple past tense by correcting mistakes. Finally, the students could improve vocabulary mastery using vocabulary card. The students’ mean score improve from 68.48 to 75.28, and up to 80.64. Key words: CIRC, Reading Comprehension, Recount Text

Abstract

Abstract: This research aimed to improve students’ pronunciation by listening to the audio visual and its transcription of the narrative text of eight grade students of SMP S Khatulistiwa Jungkat in academic year 2013/2014. The writer applied Classroom Action Research which consisted of three cycles. The subject of this research was the second year students of class eight of SMP S Khatulistiwa Jungkat. They consist of 23 students. The data was collected using observation checklist, questionnaire, field notes, and tape recorder. Audio visual media and its transcription improved students’ pronunciation in each cycle and process of teaching and learning pronunciation. The audio visual was played several times and the students repeated by reading the transcription of the narrative text based on the audio. The transcription had been added with symbols to help the students to read the text based on the audio. The repetition of the audio and the transcription of the narrative text helped the students to improve their pronunciation. Audio visual and its transcription helped and encouraged students to learn pronunciation. In conclusion, audio visual and its transcription helped students’ improved their pronunciation. Penulis menerapkan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang terdiri dari tiga siklus. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa tahun kedua kelas delapan SMP S Khatulistiwa Jungkat. Mereka terdiri dari 23 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, angket, catatan lapangan, dan tape recorder. Media audio visual dan transkripsi yang meningkatkan pengucapan siswa dalam setiap siklus dan proses belajar dan mengajar pengucapan. Audio visual yang dimainkan beberapa kali dan siswa mengulanginya dengan membaca transkripsi teks naratif berdasarkan audio. Transkripsi telah ditambahkan dengan simbol untuk membantu para siswa untuk membaca teks berdasarkan audio. Pengulangan audio dan transkripsi teks naratif membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan pengucapan mereka. Audio visual dan transkripsi membantu dan mendorong siswa untuk belajar pengucapan dengan efektif. Kesimpulannya, audio visual dan transkripsi membantu meningkatkan pengucapan murid-murid. Kata kunci: Pengucapan, Audio Visual, Transkripsi

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab masalah tentang bagaimana teknik diskusi dalam kelompok meningkatkan kemampuan berbicarasiswa dalam beragumentasi dalam hal membuat pernyataan yang tegas, memberikan alasan, dan memberikan bukti di tingkat ke-IX di SMA Negeri 1 Tumbang Titi. Dalam penelitian ini, penlis menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Alat yang di gunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah tes lisan, field notes dan observation checklist. Pada siklus pertama, penulis menjelaskan tentang assertion, reason, dan evidence dalam berargumentasi dan memberi sebuah hand out tentang ekspresi berargumentasi kepada siswa. Dalam pembuatan assertion, penulis menggunakan gambar dan pertanyaan pemicu kepada siswa, dan nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 38.12. Pada siklus kedua, penulis menyuruh siswa untuk mencari beberapa contoh dalam pembuatan alasan (reason) di majalah, koran atau internet dan nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 52.10.Penulis menyuruh siswa untuk membuat bukti atau contoh-contoh (evidences) dari koran, majalah, internet dalam siklus ketiga, dan nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 65.79. penulis menemukan bahwa kemampuan siswa berbicara dalam berargumentasi meningkat memalui diskusi kelompok. Kata kunci: kemampuan berbicara, argumentasi, teknik diskusi kelompok Abstract:This research is intended to answer the problem about how does group discussion technique improve speaking ability on argumentation in terms of assertion, reason and evidence to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 01 Tumbang Titi. In this research, the writer used classroom action research.The tools of data collection used oral test, field note and observation checklist. On the first cycle, the writer explained about assertion, reason, and evidence in argumentation and gave the students a hand out about expressing argumentation. In making assertion the writer used picture and trigger question to the students and the students mean score was 38.12. In the second cycle, the writer asked the students to search some examples of the logical reason in magazine, newspaper, and internet and the students mean score was 52.10. The writer also asked the students to make evidence from newspaper, magazine, internet etc in the third cycle, and the students mean score was 65.79. The writer found that students speaking ability on argumentation had improved through group discussion technique. Keywords:speaking ability, argumentation, group discussion technique

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang materi untuk speaking berdasarkan Communicative Language Teaching untuk siswa kelas VIII semester 2 di SMP Negeri 1 Pontianak. Materi tersebut dirancang untuk menyediakan materi speaking alternatif berdasarkan CLT. Sebelum merancang materi speaking, penulis melakukan survey terlebih dahulu. Setelah itu penulis merancang materi speaking yang memiliki prinsip-prinsip dari CLT, prinsip-prinsip merancang materi, aspek-aspek rancangan materi, dan prinsip dari pengembangan materi speaking. Berdasarkan hasil interview siswa dan guru, didapatkan bahwa materi yang dirancang oleh penulis telah memenuhi prinsip-prinsip CLT. Kata kunci: Communicative Language Teaching, Design, Speaking Abstract: This research was aimed at designing speaking material samples based on Communicative Language Teaching for the second semester of eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Pontianak. The materials designed in order to provide the alternative speaking materials based on CLT. Before designing the speaking materials, the writer did a preliminary study. After that, the writer designed speaking material samples which fulfilled the principles of CLT. The speaking materials designed had fulfilled the principles of CLT, principles of material design, aspects of material design and principles of speaking material development. Based on the students and teachers interview, the result showed that the materials designed by the writer had fulfilled the principles of CLT. Abstract

AbstractThis research entitled “Improving Students’ Writing Narrative Text Through Spin A Story Writing Prompt” was purpose to investigate how the use of Spin A Story Writing Prompt could improve students’ writing in narrative text to the eighth grade students of SMP Islamiyah Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. The method used is classroom action research. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students in class VIII A. The result showed that students’ problems in writing narrative text such as writing narrative text based on the generic structure, writing narrative text based on the correct language features in writing narrative text and students’ attention to follow the lesson had been solved by using Spin A Story Writing Prompt as the teaching media. In collecting the data, the writer used observation checklist table, field note, and writing test. The research approach used in this research was cooperative learning. Based on the results, it can be concluded that: the Spin A Story Writing Prompt could be used as a media to improve students’ writing on narrative text such as generic structure, language features in writing narrative text and students’ attention to follow the lesson. Keywords : Improving, Narrative Text, Spin A Story Writing Prompt

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of conducting this research is to know whether or not  the use of personal photograph is effective to teach students’ ability in descriptive text writing and how effective the use of personal photograph to       teach students’ ability in descriptive text writing at the seventh grade students of MTsN Jongkong in academic year 2015/2016. This research was done by conducting a pre- experimental study which consists of pretest, two times of treatments and posttest. The sample of this research is class VII Aand consists of 40 students.The data had been collected by measurement technique with pre-test and post-test. The tool of data collecting is written test.The result of the mean score in pre-test is 33.91 and the students mean score in post-test is 56.52. The interval score from pre-test and post-test is 22.61. It means that the students’ score increased from pre-test to post-test. Based on the computation of t-test it showed that t-test was higher that t-table (3.29>2.074).Besides that, based on the computation of the effect size, it showed that the effect of the treatment is 0.658 this score categorized as moderate. It means that personal photograph is average for teaching        descriptive text writing of MTsN Jongkong in academic year 2015/2016. Key words: Personal Photograph, Descriptive Text Writing   Abstrak: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan personal photograph effektip untuk mengajar kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif dan  seberapa effektip penggunaan personal photograph untuk mengajar kemampuan siswa dalam menulis  teks deskriptif pada siswa kelas tujuh MTsN Jongkong pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016.Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menerapkan pre-experimental study yang terdiri dari pretest, dua kali treatments dan posttest. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah iswa kelas tujuh A dan terdiri dari 40 siswa. Data yang dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data melalui pretest dan posttest. Alat pengumpulan data adalah tes tertulis. Hasil  dari rata-rata skor pada pretest adalah 33.91 dan skor rata-rata pada posttest adalah 56.52. rentangan skor dari pretest dan posttest adalah 22.61. hal tersebut berarti skor siswa meningkat dari pretest ke posttest. Berdasarkan perhitungan t-test menunjukkan bahwa t-test lebih tinggi dari pada t-table (3.29>2.074). Selain itu berdasarkan perhitungan dari effect size menunjukkan bahwa efek dari treatment adalah 0.658 skor ini dikategorikan sebagai sedang. Hal ini berarti  personal photograph efektif untuk mengajar  menulis teks deskriptif pada MTsN Jongkong pada tahun ajaran 2015/21016. Key Words: Personal Photograph, Menulis Teks Deskriptif

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research are to find out how the alibi game improve students’ speaking ability, to see whether this technique can be applied in class room activity to solve students’ problem and to see whether this technique can apply in class room activity to solve students’ problem in using chronological event in oral recount text. This classroom action research was conducted in three cycles, where each cycle consists of four stages of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The result of the research proved that alibi game helped students speaking ability especially in telling recount. Alibi game has 3 parts that help students’ problems in oral recount. They are discussion, interrogation and conclusion parts. The process of the game requires students to tell in past tense which is the language feature of recount. Keyword: alibi game, Recount Abstrak: tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan bahwa permainan alibi mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa, untuk melihat apakah teknik ini bisa di aplikasikan di ruang kelas untuk menyelesaikan masalah siswa dalam menggunakan kejadian kronologi dalam recount teks lisan. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini di selesaikan dalam tiga lingkaran dimana setiap lingkaran terdiri dari perencanaan, peranan, penelitian dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa permainan alibi membantu kemampuan berbicara siswa terutama menceritakan cerita. Permainan alibi memiliki tiga bagian yang membantu siswa dalam recount secara lisan. Mereka adalah, bagian diskusi, interogasi dan konklusi. Proses dari permainan ini mengharuskan siswa untuk bercerita menggunakan simple past tense yang mana adalah sifat bahasa dari recount. Kata kunci: Permainan alibi, Recount

Abstract

This research was aimed at designing listening materials based on Contextual Teaching and Learning approach for second semester of eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Ketapang. Before designing the listening materials, the writer did a preliminary study. The result showed that there were not any units which had the seven components of CTL in the units for listening to monologue texts. Therefore, the writer designed listening comprehension materials which fulfilled the seven components of CTL. The listening materials designed had fulfilled the components of CTL, principles of material design, aspects of material design and principles of listening material development. Abstract

Abstract : This study wasClassroom Action Research (CAR) to improve senior high school students readingcomprehension. In this project, Reciprocal Teaching Strategy (RTS) was used tohelp students find meaning in English reading texts. The process of RTScomprises of reading activities such as predicting, questioning, clarifying,and summarizing which typically involving interaction between students-studentsand students-teacher. Predicting helped the students hypothesized the generalidea of the text. Questioning helped the students get deeper understanding ofthe text by generating questions. The students clarified unfamiliar parts inorder to understand the clumsy part of the text. Summarizing monitored thestudents understanding by concluding the text. After three cycles of theteaching learning processes, the students reading comprehension improvedgradually. Key words: Reciprocal Teaching Strategy, CAR, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is intended to answer the problem about how does animation video improve reading comprehension in comprehending language features,finding out factual or detail information and drawing moral value on narrative text to the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 SengahTemila. The writer has conducted a classroom action research. The tools of data collection are observation checklist, field notes and test. On the first cycle until the third cycle the writer used animation video as a media toimprove the students reading comprehension in comprehending language features, finding out the factual or detailinformation and drawing the moral value on narrative text. The writer used animation video by showing print screen picture of the story of animation video and giving unfamiliar words to improve the student’s ability in comprehending language features of narrative text. The writer used animation video by predicting, confirming, having class discussion, and testing activity to improve student’s ability in finding out factual or detailed information. The writer used animation video by reviewing each character and finding out the factual or detailed information to improve student’s ability in drawing moral value of narrative text. On the first cycle the student’s mean score was 52.12. In the second cycle students’ mean score was 75.78. In third cycle the students’ mean score was 76.69. Keywords: Animation video, Narrative text, Reading comprehension.   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab masalah mengenai apakah video animasi meningkatkan kemampuan membaca dalam memahami fitur bahasa, menemukan informasi nyata dan terperinci, dan mengambil nilai moral dalam teks naratif di kelas delapan SMP N 1 SengahTemila. Penulis menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Alat yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah lembar pengamatan, catatan lapangan, dan tes.Pada siklus satu sampai siklus tiga penulis menggunakan video animasi sebagai media untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca dalam memahami fitur bahasa, menemukan informasi nyata dan terperinci, dan mengambil nilai moral dalam teks naratif. Penulis menggunakan video animasi dengan aktivitas menunjukkan cetakan gambar dari cerita video animasi dan memberikan kata-kata yang tidak dikenal untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami fitur bahasa teks naratif. Penulis menggunakan video animasi dengan aktivitas prediksi, konfirmasi, diskusi kelas, dan test untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menemukan informasi nyata dan terperinci . Penulis menggunakan video animasi dengan aktivitas mengulas kembali masing-masing karakter dan menemukan informasi nyata dan terperinci untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam mengambi lnilai moral dari teks naratif. Pada siklus pertama rata-rata perolehan nilai siswa adalah 52.12.Pada siklus kedua rata-rata perolehan nilai siswa adalah 75.78. Pada siklus ketiga rata-rata perolehan nilai siswa adalah 76.69.
