Abstract

This study examines the effect of using Augmented Reality (AR) on improving students' higher-order thinking Skills (HOTS) in the Solar System material at a high school in Surabaya. HOTS includes critical thinking, problem-solving, and logical reasoning skills essential in 21st-century learning. The study uses a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Tenth-grade students were selected through purposive sampling and were given multiple-choice tests before and after the AR-based learning intervention to measure their improvement in HOTS. The results show a significant increase in students' HOTS, with an N-gain score of 0.58, which falls into the moderate category. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, indicating that AR effectively enhances students' ability to analyze, solve problems, and express their thoughts more clearly and systematically. These findings imply that the application of AR in learning can support an outcome-based education approach. Integrating AR into the curriculum is expected to improve the quality of learning, support the achievement of educational goals, and develop students' critical thinking skills for their future.

Abstract

The alpha therapy modeling was performed for the treatment of glioblastoma brain cancer using MCNP6 software. The simulation used a head and neck phantom geometry, with a spherical shape of the radiation direction of the cancer cells with a radius of one cm divided into 27 targets. One radiation source is directed to each target center of the cancer cells with five energy variations, namely (430, 425, 415, 410, and 400) MeV. The simulation results are in the form of a distribution of absorbed doses in all targets and healthy cells around them. The simulation results show an average dose distribution of (1.2902 ± 0.0024) 10-11 Gy/alpha with an isodose level of 69.75%. The healthy organ that receives the largest dose and secondary particle distribution after cancer cells is the brain, with an accumulative dose of (1.7446 ± 0.0033) 10-15 Gy/alpha. The dose distribution on cancer cells shows that the irradiation time to kill glioblastoma cancer cells is (1456±0.14) seconds with an alpha current of 1 nA.

Abstract

Elementary school teachers often struggle with integrating 3D-based instructional media due to limited digital skills, hindering efforts to enhance student motivation through innovative learning tools. While 3D media like Assemblr EDU enhances student engagement, prior research has largely ignored the need for teacher training in utilizing such media effectively. This study evaluated the impact of a structured training program on teachers' competencies in developing 3D instructional media, with the ASSURE model serving as a guide for teachers to select and create appropriate media during the training. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data from 40 elementary teachers were gathered through observations, interviews, and feedback forms. Findings showed significant improvements in digital skills, with 75% completing 3D media projects and over 50% ready to implement them in classrooms. This training effectively bridged digital gaps and fostered pedagogical innovation, underscoring the importance of structured professional development for transforming learning practices and motivating students. Advanced training and continuous support are recommended for sustained technology integration.

Abstract

The integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and e-learning represents an instructional approach that has the potential to foster higher-order thinking by actively engaging students in structured problem-solving activities. This study examines the impact of combining e-learning with the PBL model and an ethnomathematics approach on eighth-grade students’ critical thinking and mathematical communication skills in learning the Pythagorean Theorem. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was implemented involving Grade 8 students at SMP Negeri 4 Madiun. Participants were divided into an experimental group, which received ethnomathematics-based PBL supported by e-learning, and a control group, which was taught using conventional instructional methods. Data were collected through pretests and posttests measuring critical thinking and mathematical communication skills, and the differences between groups were analyzed using inferential statistical techniques. The findings reveal that the integration of e-learning within an ethnomathematics-oriented PBL framework has a significant and positive effect on students’ critical thinking and mathematical communication skills, thereby demonstrating its effectiveness in promoting higher-order thinking in mathematics education.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates the effectiveness of the Deep Digital Learning (DDL) model to address the failure of conventional digital learning to foster Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Unlike prior fragmented approaches, the model proposes a novel conceptual synthesis of personalization, collaboration, authentic problem-based learning, and data-driven feedback to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving.Methodology – This quasi-experimental design employed 70 students from the Educational Technology study program. The experimental group (n = 35) used the DDL intervention via the SIDIA Learning Management System (LMS). In contrast, the control group (n = 35) used Conventional Digital Learning (CDL) as a non-equivalent control for seven weeks. Data were collected using validated rubrics for Critical Thinking (CT) and Problem-Solving (PS) skills tests, which were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).Findings – The ANOVA results statistically showed that the DDL group achieved significantly higher post-test scores for both Critical Thinking skills (F(1, 68) = 169.30, p < 0.001) and Problem-Solving skills (F(1, 68) = 140.65, p < 0.001). The mean difference confirmed the superiority of the experimental class in both skills (3.35 points for CT and 3.37 points for PS). This confirms DDL is more effective than CDL in enhancing students’ HOTS.Contribution – Beyond statistical significance, this study positions DDL as a strategic instructional blueprint in advancing HOTS. It provides Higher Education with a proven framework to strengthen digital transformation, ensuring the achievement of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and 21st-century skills.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Learning Management System (LMS) management on learning outcomes and Islamic character development among students of Madrasah Aliyah through an explanatory quantitative research design. The study conceptualises Islamic character development not as a subject-specific religious outcome, but as an institutional and managerial outcome of systematically managed digital learning environments. LMS management is operationalised as the structured use of digital platforms to support planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of learning processes within madrasahs. The research analyses the relationship between LMS usage and two key dependent variables: cognitive learning outcomes and Islamic character development, encompassing honesty, discipline, responsibility, digital ethics, and empathy. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 120 students who had been actively using the LMS for at least 1 academic semester. The collected data were analysed using multiple regression techniques to examine the magnitude and significance of the relationships between variables. The results indicate that LMS management has a statistically significant and positive influence on both learning outcomes and Islamic character development. The effect of LMS management on learning outcomes was found to be stronger (β = 0.562, p < 0.01) than its effect on Islamic character development (β = 0.494, p < 0.01), suggesting that LMS is more effective in supporting cognitive achievement than in fostering character development. Further analysis shows that LMS usage explains 41.6% of the variance in students’ learning outcomes and 36.5% of the variance in Islamic character development. Despite these positive findings, the study reveals that the integration of Islamic values into LMS platforms remains limited, with only 50% of the surveyed madrasahs reporting the effective implementation of Islamic value-based digital learning content. This limitation indicates that character development through LMS has not yet been systematically planned or institutionally governed, but remains largely incidental. The findings highlight the need for stronger pedagogical planning, institutional coordination, and strategic content development to optimise the LMS's role in supporting holistic student development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ambient equivalent dose H*(10) of neutrons and evaluate the effectiveness of radiation shielding at the Monte Carlo-based Compact Proton Therapy Center (CPTC) facility using Monte Carlo N -Particle (MCNP6.2) software with four variations in the direction of the proton beam (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°). The simulation was conducted to determine the effect of beam orientation on neutron radiation distribution in the area around the bunker, particularly in the Treatment Control Room (TCR) and door area. The simulation results showed that the dose distribution was highly dependent on the beam direction and the geometric configuration of the CPTC facility. The highest dose value was obtained from the 270° direction, which was 733 µSv/year. However, the dose is still below the dose limit set by the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), which is 1 mSv/year for the public, so the CPTC facility design is considered safe against secondary neutron exposure. This research contributes to the development of physics, particularly in the application of the Monte Carlo method for radiation protection analysis, and is expected to be a development asset for proton therapy in Indonesia.
