Abstract

Spiritual education has an important role in shaping the character of students, especially at the junior high school level. One of the efforts to strengthen spiritual education in schools is through the implementation of the Monday-Thursday Fasting program. This study aims to determine the implementation of the Monday-Thursday Fasting program and its impact on the development of students' spiritual character at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through direct observation, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of relevant documents. The results showed that this program has been running effectively and structured. The Monday-Thursday Fasting program succeeded in increasing discipline, patience, emotional control, sincerity, and forming social solidarity among students. Observations showed a decrease in negative verbal behavior and increased spiritual awareness. Despite obstacles such as limited control outside the school environment and decreased student stamina, the school was able to make adjustments through special policies such as compressed class schedules and student health support. Program evaluation is carried out on an ongoing basis through teacher observation and regular communication with parents. These findings support Bronfenbrenner's theory on the importance of school and family interactions in shaping student character as well as ta'dib theory in Islamic education. In conclusion, the Monday-Thursday Fasting program contributes greatly to building a religious school environment, improving students' spiritual intelligence, and becoming a strategic model in the development of character education based on Islamic values in schools.

Abstract

General Background: Character education remains a pivotal aspect of holistic student development. Specific Background: In Indonesian Islamic schools, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is instrumental in shaping discipline through structured religious routines. Knowledge Gap: However, limited studies deeply explore the sustainable role of PAI in cultivating discipline as a lived moral habit rather than mere curriculum content. Aims: This study aims to investigate how PAI contributes to instilling students’ disciplinary character through integrated religious activities in the school setting. Results: Employing a qualitative descriptive method at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Banyudono Special Program, data from observations, interviews, and documentation revealed that discipline is nurtured through daily practices such as congregational prayer, Qur'an memorization, and surah recitation. Novelty: The study highlights the proactive role of PAI teachers—not only as instructors but as moral exemplars and consistent mentors—supported by school leadership that fosters a culture of discipline. Implications: These findings underscore that PAI-based discipline formation goes beyond theoretical teaching, embedding moral values into students’ habitual behaviors, with implications for character education frameworks in Islamic schooling contexts. Highlight PAI shapes discipline through daily religious routines. Teachers act as moral role models and mentors. School leadership reinforces a disciplined environment. Abstract

General Background: Education is a key pillar in shaping a nation’s character, with Islamic Education playing a central role in cultivating moral and spiritual values. Specific Background: While pencak silat is widely recognized as a traditional martial art, its integration with Islamic educational values remains underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Existing studies focus mainly on pesantren-based silat practices, overlooking the role of urban-based organizations such as GASMI in Surakarta. Aims: This study aims to investigate the strategies, impacts, and challenges of internalizing Islamic values through pencak silat activities in GASMI Surakarta. Results: The findings indicate that GASMI fosters religious, ethical, and spiritual values—such as faith, discipline, humility, and worship—through structured methods including habituation, exemplary conduct, advice, and corrective sanctions. Novelty: Unlike prior studies, this research highlights how a community-based silat organization outside pesantren contexts can serve as a dynamic platform for character education rooted in Islamic teachings. Implications: The study offers a culturally resonant model for Islamic education that combines physical discipline with moral development, suggesting a blueprint for integrating local cultural assets into character education initiatives across diverse urban settings.Highlight : GASMI serves as a medium to instill Islamic values through martial arts training. Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic boarding schools in increasing community religiosity, with case studies at Al-Kahfi Randusari Islamic Boarding School and Alima Balong Qur'an Boarding School. The purpose of this study is to describe the strategy and impact of pesantren activities on the improvement of religious values in the surrounding community. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study include pesantren leaders, ustadz, students, and the community in the pesantren environment. The results of the study show that the two pesantren have an important role in shaping the religious character of the community through non-formal education, habituation of daily worship such as congregational prayers and tadarus, and strengthening morals and spiritual values. In addition, various socio-religious activities such as public recitation, social services, and Islamic-based skills training have also increased the active participation of the community in religious life. These efforts have proven effective in strengthening individual and collective religious behavior, building harmonious social relationships, and fostering a strong Islamic character in society. However, this study also found a number of obstacles, including limited human and material resources, as well as challenges in inviting the community to follow guidance consistently. The implications of these findings show the importance of close collaboration between Islamic boarding schools, community leaders, and related agencies to strengthen inclusive and adaptive da'wah to social dynamics. Thus, pesantren not only function as a religious education institution, but also as a center for sustainable community development and oriented towards the formation of noble morals.

Abstract

This study is based on the concept of achieving happiness in the world and the hereafter according to Imam Al-Ghazali's view. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the concept of happiness according to Imam Al-Ghazali and the keys to happiness face the identity crisis in Islamic Religious Education teachers. Meanwhile, this study aims to determine the concept of happiness according to Imam Al-Ghazali in facing the identity crisis in the educational staff environment. The results of this study are (1) Self-knowledge (ma‘rifat al-nafs) serves as a crucial foundation for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers to realize their true essence as humble servants of Allah, enabling them to reframe their profession as a spiritual calling rather than merely an institutional obligation. (2) The purification of the soul (tazkiyat al-nafs), through the control of desire (syahwat), anger (ghadab), intellect (‘aql), and heart (qalb), as taught by Al-Ghazali, has shown a positive impact in maintaining the inner balance of PAI teachers so they do not become overwhelmed by complex professional demands. (3) Al-Ghazali’s concept of happiness can serve as a transformative spiritual approach to overcoming the identity crisis experienced by PAI teachers, as it offers a path to spiritual reinforcement, psychological resilience, and the internalization of religious motivation, thereby fostering inner strength and a genuine spirit of educational dedication.

Abstract

Evaluation is a very important part of measuring the success of the learning process. The purpose of holding a learning assessment is to understand the extent to which students have experienced development or progress in three dimensions, namely cognitive, affective and psychomotor. The evaluation carried out by teachers when viewed from the fact that the world of education carried out by teachers that often occurs is not true. For example, when educators give exam questions to their students, but the questions given are not all in accordance with the material that educators have delivered to their students in the classroom during learning. This can result in low student learning outcomes. This study aims to provide an analysis of the principles of evaluation and types of evaluation in Sura Al-'Ankabut verses 2-3 and Sura Al-Zalzalah verses 7-8, as well as their relevance in education today. To obtain valid data, researchers use a qualitative paradigm with a muqaran interpretation approach, data collection techniques using documentation (document studies) with descriptive-analytical data analysis. The principles of evaluation in these two letters can be concluded including 1) The Hadaf Principle 2) the Al-kamal principle 3) the istimrar principle 4) the maudhuiyyah principle 5) the alfariq principle, and 6) the 'adula principle. The type of evaluation contained in these two surahs is the first that the evaluation carried out includes all the use of the force that in man begins to produce a work or deed. The two types of evaluation used are evaluations to test human abilities against various aspects of life problems experienced by humans.

Abstract

Personality is a crucial factor for the success of students in the learning process. Instilling good habits from an early age is very important for students. Teachers play a significant role in schools, especially Islamic Education (PAI) teachers, who are educators directly responsible for moral development and the inculcation of legal norms concerning right and wrong, as well as responsibility. This study aims to determine the roles, methods, supporting factors, and obstacles faced by PAI teachers in shaping the personalities of students at SMKN 01 Banyudono Boyolali. The approach used is qualitative, employing case study research methods through data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study conclude that PAI teachers play an essential role in the moral development of students at SMKN 1 Banyudono, primarily as educators, guides, habituators, and implementers of religious activities. Efforts made by PAI teachers to cultivate students' morals include encouraging the habit of reciting "basmallah" at the beginning of learning activities, saying "hamdallah" at the end, starting lessons by reciting Asma’ul Husna, maintaining classroom cleanliness, assigning additional tasks to memorize prayer recitations, promoting Quranic literacy, guiding and setting an example for students to perform congregational prayers, and actively participating in the execution of religious activities.
