Abstract

Background: In Sarolangun District, the prevalence of short nutritional status for toddlers in 2021 is 21.4%, and the prevalence of malnutrition is 14.3%, almost similar with Jambi Province data. Objectives: To determine eating habits, taboos, infection rates, and nutritional status of SAD (Suku Anak Dalam) toddlers who live in Jambi Province. Methods: This analytic descriptive study used a cross-sectional design and incidental sampling approach. The subject of 39 settled down SAD toddlers and 33 nomadic SAD toddlers was obtained. Data were gathered from interview to Demang, a trusted source for SAD, equipped with structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements with digital scales and microtoise, which were then processed with WHO Anthro. Due to the lack of information on the age of nomadic SAD toddlers, nutritional status was determined using WHZ scores. Data analysis was carried out using the Independent T Test which was then displayed in the form of cross tabulations and diagrams. Results: SAD toddlers who are settled down usually eat rice as the staple food (2 to 3 times per day, along with vegetables, animal source food and fruit. The main food source of nomadic SAD Toddlers is tubers and boiled vegetables, and fish, which were caught during their hunting. Except fish, all animal dishes, including beef and chicken, are prohibited for nomadic SAD toddlers. None of the nomadic SAD toddlers had infection, whereas 7.69% of settled down SAD toddlers had. The incidence of poor nutritional status based on WHZ was higher in nomadic SAD toddlers (42.4%) compared to settled down SAD toddlers (28.2%), but not significant based on the Independent T Test results. Conclusions: Settled down SAD toddlers have diverse eating habits, some of them had infections, and are generally malnourished, while all of the nomadic SAD toddlers avoid to eat animal products other than fish.

Abstract

The increasing number of stroke cases and their risk factors is a crisis that needs to be addressed. This study aimed to determine the number of new stroke cases in Bogor, Indonesia, and its risk factors. We conducted a nested case-control study from the Study of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Risk Factors of the National Health Institute of Research and Development, Ministry of Health, Indonesia, in 2018. A deep analysis was conducted on 1.210 respondents based on the subset of baseline this data. Data was collected by interview method on permanent residents in Bogor City, Indonesia in 2018. Diagnosis of stroke was based on the anamnesis of a neurologist and a neurological examination. Independent variables include sociodemographic characteristics, metabolic syndrome, and risky behaviors. The data was analyzed with a dual logistic regression test. The incidence of stroke during 2018 amounted to 48 cases (3.9%). The main determinants of stroke in this population include diabetes mellitus and systolic blood pressure being the main factors for stroke, with each p-value, AOR, and (95% CI) being 0,000, 0.222 (0.122-0.405), 0.003, 0.291 (0.128-0.662). There was no significant difference in metabolic syndrome outcomes one year before the diagnosis of stroke and the year when the stroke was diagnosed. Special attention is needed in DM patients with high blood pressure to prevent stroke.

Abstract

Implementing COVID-19 Community Activity Restrictions (Pemberlakuan Pembatasan Kegiatan Masyarakat/PPKM) affects community activities, including type-2 Diabetes mellitus patients in Demak Regency. BMI and HbA1c are risk factors for increased blood glucose levels of DM type 2. This research aims to determine the impact of corvid-19 PPKM against BMI, Glucose Levels, and HbA1c in Type 2 DM Patients in Demak Regency. This study used secondary data from the Chronic Disease Management Program (PROLANIS) in three health centers (Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat/Puskesmas) in Demak Regency. Which was grouped into measurements before PPKM (October 2019 and February 2020), the PPKM period (August 2021), and the end of PPKM (March 2022). The complete variables were incorporated into the final analysis. A total of 164 respondents were spread across in Wonosalam 1 (n=64), Bonang 2 (n=49), and Wedung 1 (n=51).  The results of the Analysis of Friedman and the Wilcoxon post hoc showed that there was an influence of COVID-19 PPKM on Glucose Levels (p= 0.000) and HbA1c (p = 0.000). There was no influence on BMI (p = 0.108) in Dm Type 2 patients in Demak Regency, meaning on the variable levels of FBS and HbA1c, there are at least two different measurements in October 2019, February 2020, August 2021, and March 2022 measurements.  Special attention is needed in DM patients to control changes in BMI, Glucose levels, and HbA1c during the implementation of COVID-19 PPKM.

Abstract

Isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) reflects atherosclerosis. Studies reported hypertension prevalence among diabetes mellitus (DM); however, limited studies provided community prevalence. The present study aimed to explore ISH prevalence among DM in Indonesia. This study obtained data from the 2018 Indonesia Basic Health Survey. The DM category was determined by fasting plasma glucose (PG) level ≥126 mg/dL or 2 hours postprandial and random PG level ≥200 mg/dL or previously diagnosed by a doctor. ISH is categorized if systolic blood pressure is≥140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is 90 mmHg. This study also explored the subject’s determinants, i.e., compliance, demography, and lipid profile. A Chi-square and Binary logistic regression were used to determine the association. The study included 3,911 DM individuals and disclosed the prevalence of ISH at 17.5%. ≥65 years old (OR=13.61 95%CI: 3.297-19.365) and 45-64 years old OR=4.59 95%CI: 3.297-6.383)), high HDL-cholesterol (OR=0.77; 95%CI: 0.626-0.936), and longer DM duration (OR=2.89; 95%CI: 2.405-3.474), all together were related to the ISH. Subjects with the oldest age category, i.e., ≥65 years old, had the highest OR. Older DM individuals with low HDL-C and longer DM duration were related to the ISH, suggesting lipid profile treatments, mainly the HDL-C, is a pivotal effort to delay ISH.
