Abstract

Adherence of HIV/AIDS patients in ARV therapy is an important factor in the success of HIV/AIDS treatment because continuous ARVs can suppress the development of the virus, reduce viral resistance, improve the HIV/AIDS patient's quality of life, and improve their health in general. This study aimed to review the literature that has researched factors related to the non-adherence of HIV/AIDS patients in taking ARV therapy. The research conducted an empirical analysis related to the aspects of adherence of HIV/AIDS patients to antiretroviral therapy (ART).  A total of 71 kinds of literature discusses the adherence of patients with HIV/AIDS to treatment with ARVs. Literature was obtained based on searches on the Scopus website for the year 2019-2023. The literature is dominant in 2019 and has decreased over time. The publication is predominantly in Q1-indexed journals, with the first author coming from the USA. General factors that become ART adherence based on the literature include finance, mental health, alcohol consumption, drug abuse, belief, self-efficacy, knowledge, homeless, support, and tobacco/smoking. The most commonly encountered factors are support and mental health. The further suggestions for medical personnel or patients with HIV/AIDS and their families to be more synergistic in carrying out medical therapy.

Abstract

Anemia is a severe public health problem with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia at 46.2% based on data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) 5. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. The cross-sectional design of the study was using secondary data from IFLS 5 which was conducted from September 2014 to March 2015 on 292 pregnant women out of 53,160 respondents based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Chi-square analysis showed that maternal age, maternal occupation, smoking habit, food frequency, green vegetable consumption, vitamin C consumption, socioeconomic status and health service distance were not associated with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. Whereas maternal education (p=0.006), nutritional status (p=0.003), gestational age (p=0.001), iron consumption (p=0.001), ANC examination (p=0.006) and protein consumption (p=0.012) were associated with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. Multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression showed maternal education (p=0.014), nutritional status (p=<0.001), gestational age (p=0.002), iron consumption (p=0.008) and protein consumption (p=0.038) were associated with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. Gestational age was the most dominant variable associated with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women after controlling for maternal education, nutritional status, iron consumption and protein consumption (OR=3.029; 95% CI=1.520-6.038).

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy can lead to serious complications, such as bleeding and premature birth. The prevalence of anemia in Semarang in 2022 reached 15.4%, exceeding the WHO target. This study aims to analyze factors influencing the occurrence of anemia among pregnant women in Semarang in 2023. The study was conducted at five public health centers in Semarang with 183 pregnant women, consisting of 61 with anemia and 122 without anemia. Data were collected from January to July 2024, with analysis using Chi-Square and logistic regression tests. Significant factors associated with anemia included age (p=0.006), employment status (p=0.005), gravidity (p=0.047), ANC history (p=0.036), compliance with iron supplementation (p=0.003), tea/coffee consumption habits (p=0.024), iron intake from food (p=0.033), nutritional status (KEK) (p=0.041), and knowledge about anemia (p=0.009). Multivariate analysis showed that age (OR=3.09), employment status (OR=0.395), and KEK status (OR=2.99) were higher risks for anemia. Age, employment status, and nutritional status (KEK) are significant factors affecting anemia in pregnant women in Semarang, highlighting the importance of nutritional interventions and health education for pregnant women.

Abstract

Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, often resulting in impaired motor function and reduced independence in daily activities. Innovative and engaging rehabilitation strategies are urgently needed to improve patient outcomes and adherence. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an occupational game console in improving functional abilities among stroke patients. A quasi-experimental study was conducted at RSUD Dr. Adhyatma, MPH, Semarang, between March and June 2024, involving 30 stroke patients aged 30–70 years. All participants completed in a 4-week rehabilitation program without a control group. They received structured therapy using an occupational game console designed to enhance motor coordination, muscle strength, and independence. Functional improvements were measured using the Barthel Index (BI), Manual Muscle Test (MMT), and Nine Hole Peg Test (NHPT). Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests with a significance level set at p < 0.05. The participants included 18 males (60%) and 12 females (40%). Most were in the 51 60 years age group (40.0%), followed by 41–50 years (26.7%), and smaller proportions in 30–40 years (16.7%) and 61–70 years (16.7%). In term of stroke duration, 56.7% had experienced a stroke for 5–8 months, 23.3% for 0–4 months, and 20.0% for 9–12 months. The results showed significant improvements in functional outcomes, with BI scores increasing from 45 (moderate dependence) to 65 (mild dependence), MMT scores improving from 3/5 to 4/5, and NHPT times decreasing from 120 to 90 seconds (p < 0.01). Additionally, 85% of patients reported higher motivation and engagement due to the console’s interactive and gamified features. Occupational game consoles demonstrate promising potential as innovative and accessible tools to support stroke rehabilitation by enhancing motor function, independence, and patient engagement. Future studies should include randomized controlled trials with larger samples and longer durations to assess long-term effectiveness and broader clinical applications.
