Abstract

This article describes the manifestation of religious moderatism in the Surabaya urban multicultural community. This study aims to reveal symbol of religious moderatism, involvement of figures in the practice of religious moderatism, religious rituals, and social values are manifested from the attitude of religious moderatism in the Surabaya urban multicultural community. The results of this study show that the religious tolerance that exists in multicultural and multi-religious communities in Surabaya is reflected in the manifestation of religious moderatism in the form of specific symbols shown by the people of Surabaya in social interaction. In addition, the involvement of community leaders, religious leaders, and regional leaders who work together to strengthen religious moderation also are needed. The attitudes and behaviour of Surabaya people in interacting with the multi-religious community. The Last, namely the form of values that appear in the civilized, balanced, tolerant behaviour of Surabaya people, deliberation, prioritizing priorities, spreading peace, dynamic and innovative, firm, the principle of equality, always taking the middle way or wasathiyyah. This study argues that the synergy of all parties plays an essential role in the growth, preservation, and development of religious moderatism in a multicultural metropolitan society.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the cooperation between Muslim and Hindu communities in handling social problems in the Tengger Tribe, Mount Bromo area, East Java. Religious diversity among the Tengger people provides challenges and opportunities for solving complex social problems. Using symbolic interaction theory and descriptive-qualitative research methods, this study reveals several social problems, including interfaith marriages, lack of access to education, challenges in maintaining identity and tradition, and population administration issues. Interfaith marriage is considered normal in Tengger society, which is not in line with Islamic teachings. Lack of access to education after junior high school is a barrier for the community. Population administration issues, such as birth registration and identity documents, also affect the Tengger community. This research found that there is strong cooperation between the Muslim and Hindu communities in addressing social problems. The contribution of this research is to provide an understanding of the importance of religion, culture, tolerance, and interfaith harmony in strengthening cooperation in solving social problems. The implication of this research is the importance of improving access to education, maintaining identity and tradition, and improving population administration to build a more harmonious and inclusive society in Indonesia

Abstract

This research aims to explain the process of da'wah communication through training for Imams and Makmum to perform perfect prayers in Sanad according to the guidance of Rasulullah SAW and using descriptive qualitative methods by studying in depth and data collection techniques carried out by triagulation. The research results and discussions explain charity without knowledge will be in vain, and true knowledge must be obtained through teachers who have sanad, which is the chain of transmission of knowledge from Rasulullah SAW to today's ulama. A da'i acts as an active communicator and agent of change, so that the message of da'wah can be felt significantly by the community. Training is an effective da'wah model that allows direct interaction between the communicator and the communicant so that the da'wah material can be delivered thoroughly

Abstract

Post-tolerance is a concrete form of behavior in appreciating and respecting each other among religious communities. This is particularly necessary in a diverse country like Indonesia to foster diversity. Roemah Bhinneka is a post-tolerance phenomenon in Surabaya that operates in the field of social diversity among religions. They collaborate by combining one religious activity with another, such as opening prayers by Muslims for Christmas and New Year celebrations in churches. The purpose of this study is to describe the phenomenon of post-tolerance at Roemah Bhinneka in Indonesia with its diverse society. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type, Emiel Durkheim's theory of organic solidarity, and data collection through interviews and documentation. The results of this study show that post-tolerance takes the form of involvement in other religious activities, such as joint prayer, social activities, and interfaith discussions. Differences in understanding and beliefs are united by a single vision of a social movement for diversity to build peace and justice in Indonesia's multicultural society. They dare to build arguments for coexisting with other religions through discussion and joint religious practices. From the perspective of organic solidarity theory, Roemah Bhinneka's practice of post-tolerance can be an important contribution to building an Indonesian society that is mutually involved in various social and religious activities across beliefs. Abstract

Purpose – Teacher performance assessment is a very important element for madrasah to improve quality. This research aims to explore the planning, implementation, evaluation, and impact of performance assessment for Islamic education teachers at State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya in realizing high madrasah. Method –This research is a case study. It used both primary and secondary data. The primary data were obtained through observations and interviews with the headmaster and teachers at MAN Surabaya. Findings – The important findings of this article show that there are two flagship programs academic and non-academic innovation implemented to realize State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya  as an advanced, high-quality, and globally competitive madrasah. The performance assessment of teachers at State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya is carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. All processes are conducted in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The teacher performance assessment has a significant impact, including increasing work motivation, strengthening professional relationships, and improving the overall quality of teaching and education. Research implications/limitations – The implication of this study lies in enriching the body of knowledge on the performance assessment of Islamic Education teachers in realizing high-quality madrasahs. However, this research has a limitation in that it was conducted only at the State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya and only covered a single performance period in 2024. Originality/value – This study provides empirical evidence on the performance assessment of Islamic education teachers. Future research could extend this framework to other performance assessment contexts.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence has fundamentally transformed da’wah communication on social media. This study investigates the dynamics of Artificial Intelligence-based digital da’wah on the Instagram account @ace_timetraveller through the lens of Q.S. Al-Mulk:23 and audio-visual cognitive analysis. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with observation and documentation, this research utilizes Diffusion of Innovations theory and thematic Qur’anic interpretation. Findings reveal that Artificial Intelligence enhances content production efficiency and accelerates the diffusion of religious messages among digital audiences. Audio-visual elements significantly heighten audience engagement and comprehension by optimizing cognitive processes, attention, comprehension, and retention, which are further augmented by Artificial Intelligence-driven designs. Furthermore, Q.S. Al-Mulk:23 underscores the necessity of optimizing hearing, sight, and heart as primary instruments for perceiving and internalizing da’wah. In conclusion, Artificial Intelligence -driven da’wah represents a relevant communication innovation that remains effective when anchored in Islamic theological values. The strategic integration of technology and audio-visual media is pivotal for enhancing the quality and impact of digital da’wah in the modern era.

Abstract

Digital da'wah often faces challenges in maintaining emotional depth and theological groundedness amidst the fast-paced nature of social media. This study addresses the need for a da'wah model that balances contemporary communication styles with classical Islamic interpretation. This study analyzes the communication strategy of da'wah through a presentation of the issue's background in the Musawarah Podcast episode “Kekuatan Itu Menjadikan Kita Selalu Bersama” (Strength Keeps Us Together). Using a descriptive qualitative approach with Klaus Krippendorff's content analysis, this study examines Aristotle's rhetorical elements of ethos, pathos, and logos, then integrates them with Shafwatut Tafasir's interpretation of QS—Muhammad verse 19. The results show that presenting the background of the issue plays an important role in building the moral credibility of the source (ethos), evoking emotional resonance (pathos), and strengthening the argumentation of Islamic values through life experiences (logos). Theoretically, this study contributes an integrative framework between Western rhetoric and classical Tafsir, and, practically, provides a narrative-spiritual model for digital preachers to reach urban Muslim audiences more effectively.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berangkat dari fenomena fundamentalisme yang berkembang di Indonesia yaitu HTI. Kelompok tersebut pernah dilarang, namun masih marak menyampaikan pesan-pesan dakwah dan pahamnya dengan cara yang tidak lagi sama dengan menggunakan komunitas dakwah remaja bernama Yuk Ngaji. Problem tersebut, berwujud beberapa persoalan yang mendorong penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) Apa pesan dakwah yang disampaikan kepada mitra dakwah pada komunitas Yuk Ngaji? (2) Bagaimana pemahaman mitra dakwah atas pesan yang disampaikan tentang Islam oleh para Pendakwah komunitas Yuk Ngaji? Dan (3) Bagaimana perubahan arus dakwah Felix Siauw dalam membangun pemikiran tentang Islam kepada mitra dakwah? Fokus utama penelitian ini melihat urgensi dan eksitensi komunitas Yuk Ngaji berdakwah di Indonesia sebagai gerakan dakwah Felix Siauw. Sesuai dengan persoalan tersebut, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif lapangan dan teks media, dengan pendekatan analisis fenomenologis dan etnografi. Perspektif teoritis penelitian menggunakan pendekatan dakwah M. Abu al-Fath al-Bayanuni dan Moh. Ali Aziz, serta gabungan teori dakwah lainnya, dengan pendekatan ilmu komunikasi kontemporer. Metode yang peneliti gunakan untuk mengumpulkan data melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi berbagai aktivitas dakwah komunitas Yuk Ngaji. Terdapat tiga poin temuan dalam penelitian ini. Pertama, pelbagai pesan dakwah Yuk Ngaji tipologi untuk menegakan syariat Islam yang memiliki kemiripan dengan pemahaman pada Hizbut Tahrir. Pesan dakwah disampaikan pada mitra dakwah sesuai dengan kategorisasinya yaitu partisipan dan member. Kedua, pemahaman mitra dakwah tentang Islam dibangun dengan beberapa proses agar mereka memahami pesan-pesan dakwah para pendakwah. Ketiga, Felix Siauw menunjukkan perubahan arus dakwahnya dengan tidak banyak menonjolkan menegakan negara Islam di Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of Dakwah Maslahah, an Islamic outreach approach focused on achieving public good (maslahah) and preventing harm (mafsadat), within the context of the urgent need for halal certification for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Indonesia. Amid the rapid growth of the global halal industry and the certification mandate under the Halal Product Assurance Law (UU BPJPH), the participation of MSEs continues to face challenges. This research analyzes the conceptual and normative foundations of Dakwah Maslahah, its contextual and transformative characteristics, and its relevance in increasing awareness and encouraging halal certification practices. Although the direct economic impact of halal certification for MSEs is not always immediate, the non-economic benefits, such as increased producer and consumer trust, are significant. The study identifies research gaps in the concrete implementation of Dakwah Maslahah for halal certification, its connection to holistic well-being (falah), its integration into policy, and the challenges faced by da'wah practitioners. It concludes that Dakwah Maslahah has a strategic role in articulating the communal obligation (fardlu kifayah) to provide halal products and in motivating MSEs, in line with the Objectives of Islamic Law (Maqasid al−Shari′ah). It recommends the development of innovative da'wah models, further empirical research, policy refinement, capacity building for da'wah practitioners, and interdisciplinary collaboration to realize the welfare of the community through halal certification.
