Abstract

Effort to develop critical and creative thinking skills that 21st century students needs remain limited. Learning activities to practice these skills have not been implemented optimally and the teaching materials used also do not have indicators of these skills. Through PjBL-based electronic modules and with the help of learning journals, it is believed that students' critical thinking and creative thinking skills can be improved. This study uses two research groups, held on november till december 2022 the control class and the experimental class. The tool used includes essay questions tailored to the indicators. The ANOVA test shows that E module has a significant impact on students' critical thinking skills (α=0.00) and creative thinking (α=0.00). The e-module based on PjBL and supported by a learning journals is effective in improving both skills and is useful in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This development research aims to develop, test the validation, practicality and effectiveness of e-modules in improving students' critical thinking skills for plant physiology courses. The material used in the implementation stage focuses on the material of Nutrition and Nutrient Transport in Plants. The method used Research and Development (R&D) development using the Lee & Owens model development design. The research was conducted at the State University of Malang on students majoring in biology education semester 3 totaling 33 experimental class students and 33 control class students. The results obtained from material validation are 100% with very valid criteria. Furthermore, media validation is 95.47% with very valid criteria, practitioner validation with a percentage value of 97.27% with very valid criteria. Practicality test averaged 96% including very practical criteria. The effectiveness test was obtained through the e-module implementation stage with the Nonrandomized Control-Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design using the N-gain score calculation which was 0.70 with high criteria on experimental class. 0.29 for control class which was on low criteria. Based on the test results that have been carried out, the development of e-modules based on Problem-based learning in critical thinking skills is said to be valid, practical, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This media development aims to develop, validate, practicality and effectiveness of e-modules designed to enhance critical thinking skills in Plant Physiology Course. The e-module focused on plant translocation, cell respiration, and development and growth factors. The research follows R&D using the Lee & Owens model, which includes five stages (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, and (5) evaluation. The study involved 33 third-semester biology education students at the State University of Malang. Result from the validation process show that the media achieved a 95% validation rate, categorized as "Very Valid", while the material validation scored 100% also "Very Valid", practitioner validation scored 93.9% falling into the "Very Valid". The practicality test obtained a score of 88.6% indicating "Very Practical". The effectiveness test obtained based on pretest and posttest scores from experimental and control groups, resulted in an N-gain score of 0.53 included in the "Moderate". Based on the test results that the e-modules for plant physiology courses to increase student’s critical thinking skilss is said are valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

Digital literacy is understood as a person's way of thinking, attitude and skills in using electronic and digital devices appropriately to help with work. One of the efforts to integrate digital technology into learning is by using learning applications, namely the Kuartet Biologi application. This research focuses on building students' digital literacy and cognitive learning outcomes through the Kuartet Biologi application. This study involved 58 students of class XI IPA SMAS Elim Makassar, South Sulawesi using a pre-test-post-test design with a non-equivalent control group. The pretest score as a covariant to analyse students' cognitive learning outcomes. Digital literacy was done by observation from the observer as many as 15 statements. Digital literacy was analysed using ANOVA test. Cognitive learning outcomes were analysed using ANCOVA test. The results showed the effect of digital literacy is 0.00 < 0.05 and cognitive learning outcomes of students who used the Biology Quartet application with classes did not use it is 0.00 < 0.05. The Kuartet Biologi application is proven to be more effective in building digital literacy and cognitive learning outcomes of students to build cognitive, technical, social-emotional, and behavioural dimensions in using electronic devices while learning and helping students have better knowledge.

Abstract

Collaborative problem solving (CPS) is a learning activity in which students work in small groups to achieve common goals. Students’ CPS skills can be assessed through observation, self-assessment, and peer assessment. To enhance CPS skills, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can be applied. This study aims to develop a PBL-based e-module on Plant Structure and Development specifically on pollination and fertilization with self-assessment and peer assessment to improve the students’ collaborative problem-solving skills. The research and development method in this study follows the pattern established by Lee and Owens. The population of this study consisted of Biology Education students at UM (Universitas Negeri Malang) and students from private universities in Malang. Purposive sampling was used for sample selection. The instruments used were survey and questionnaire. Based on the results of pre-test and post-test, it can be concluded that the use of the e-module can improve the students' CPS skills. Based on the validity, practicality, effectiveness tests; as well as implementation of the learning syntax, it is known that the e-module is valid and practical without any revisions, moderately effective, and very good in terms of the implementation of the learning syntax.
