Abstract

The Global Islamic Calendar is a new breakthrough in the modern era with the aim of uniting all Muslims in a unified and integrated time scheduling system. In this regard, this study aims to analyze the dynamics of the global calendar and solutions to minimize differences in views. The research method used is qualitative based on literature study. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis. The results of the study revealed that the idea of a global calendar was motivated by the frequent differences in dropping the days of worship, especially Ramadan, Shawwal, and Zulhijah, not on the same day, even the difference reached more than two days. The idea of the Global Islamic Calendar has been rejected by a number of parties with all the reasons and rebuttals that cause the dynamics and discourse about it to continue to emerge. Considering the sharp differences, a moderate and tolerant attitude is needed from all parties because this issue is a fiqh issue that is prone to differences of opinion. Moderation and tolerance are the keys to the realization of the Global Islamic Calendar. This research certainly has implications for the improvement of Islamic knowledge, and also as an effort to unite the ukhuwah of the people.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic education in Indonesia faces a fundamental crisis characterized by three main problems: educational goals oriented to ritual obedience without critical awareness of social injustice, a curriculum dominated by normative-doctrinal approaches without integration of contemporary social reality analysis, and authoritarian learning processes that do not provide space for critical thinking. This research aims to analyze Ali Asghar Engineer's thoughts on liberation theology and its relevance to the transformation of contemporary Islamic education. The research method uses a qualitative approach with library research and philosophical analysis of Engineers' thinking through primary and secondary sources. The findings show that Engineer's liberation theology is built on three fundamental pillars: monotheism as a theological foundation that rejects servitude other than God, movement as an instrument of practical change, and social justice as the ultimate goal. Implications for Islamic education include: (1) the transformation of educational goals from ritualistic to transformative-liberative that results in a critical awareness of social injustice, (2) the reconstruction of the liberative curriculum with an Engineer hermeneutic approach that distinguishes normative (justice, equality, peace) and contextual elements in the Qur'an, (3) the implementation of liberating values (justice, equality, anti-discrimination, freedom of critical thinking) through methodology Dialogical-Democratic Learning. This research contribution provides a theoretical-practical framework for the development of Islamic education that is responsive to contemporary challenges such as radicalization, social inequality, and gender discrimination, and enriches liberation theology discourse in the Islamic tradition with a focus on educational applications that have not been explored much in previous research.

Abstract

This research focuses on the application of the inquiry learning model in learning Islamic Cultural History at MTs in Sidikalang sub-district. The problem faced is the low involvement of students in learning history who tend to be passive, where the learning model used still focuses on lectures and memorization, without providing space for critical thinking and connecting material with everyday life. This study aims to describe the implementation of the inquiry model, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and explore the experiences of teachers and students in this learning. The research used a qualitative approach with case study method, involving in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results showed that the application of the inquiry model in MTs in Sidikalang sub-district has improved students' critical thinking skills, independence, and self-confidence. However, challenges such as time constraints, inadequate resources, and students' difficulties in formulating relevant questions remain obstacles. Nevertheless, the inquiry model has succeeded in creating more dynamic and relevant learning. This study concludes that the application of the inquiry model is effective in improving the quality of learning and can be applied optimally with adequate support.
