Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Hospitalization is a condition that causes a person should stay in the hospital for treatment andmedication. One of the possible nursing interventions for the children to reduce their anxiety duringhospitalization is through play therapy such as clay play. The purpose of this study was to find out theeffectiveness of clay therapy on the anxiety in preschool children (3-6 years) during hospitalization inBanjarbaru Public Hospital. This study was quasi experimental with a pretest-posttest non equivalentcontrol group design. The accidental sampling technique was used in this study to select the samplesof 26 preschool children. The samples were divided into two groups, an experimental group and acontrol group, each of which consisted of 13 children. Child’s anxiety was measured using thePreschool Anxiety Scale Revised (2010). The data were collected through measuring pre and postanxiety on both groups. The statistical results using t-independent test showed that p-value was0.000<α 0.05, indicating that there were the effectiveness of clay therapy on reducing anxiety inpreschool children (3-6 years) during hospitalization in Banjarbaru Public Hospital.

Abstract

In learning process, the students who were preparing scientific papers need learning motivation inorder to achieve satisfactory results even though it would be full of challenges and obstacles thatwere able to cause stress. The purpose of this study was to analyzed the relationship between stressand learning motivation of regular students of medical faculty of Lambung Mangkurat University whowere preparing scientific papers. The quantitative methods were employed in this study, and thecorrelational study with cross-sectional approach was the design of the study. The number ofrespondents was 80 persons. The samples were gathered using proportional stratified randomsampling technique while the data were collected using questionnaires. It applied the Pearsoncorrelation test. The results of the correlation test showed that p value was 0,000 indicating that therewas a strong and meaningful relationship between stress and learning motivation of regular studentsofMedical Faculty of Lambung Mangkurat University who were preparing scientific papers.

Abstract

Coliform bacteria contamination in wetlands poses a risk of causing waterborne diseases. Disinfectants are bactericidal, effectively reducing bacterial colonization in water. The coastal plant of mangrove nyirih or Xylocarpus granatum (X.granatum) contains various antibacterial compounds, so it can be used as a natural disinfectant. This study aims to analyze the bacteriological ability of mangrove nyirih as a disinfectant in water samples contaminated with Coliform. This laboratory experimental study used a pretest-posttest control group design. The dilution method was used to observe the effects of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% ethanol extract of mangrove leaves (L) and bark (B) of X.granatum as well as chlorine control. The parameters observed were the Coliform Most Probable Number (MPN) and Total Plate Count (TPC) in the test water sample. The results of the study, obtained a decrease in the Coliform MPN and TPC numbers of water samples after treatment. LB100% X.granatum extract produces an effect that is not significantly different from chlorine. In conclusion, mangrove nyirih has the ability as a water disinfectant.

Abstract

Background: Natural antiseptics can be alternatives to reduce the adverse effects of alcohol. An antiseptic is classified as effective if it has an inhibitory ability and a phenol coefficient value ≥ 1. Betel plants (Piper betle L.) and kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix DC.) contain a variety of antibacterial compounds and have the potential to act as an antiseptic. Objective: To analyze the in vitro effectiveness of a combined leaf infusion preparation of betel (PB) and kaffir lime (CH) as potential antiseptic candidates. Methods: This quasi-experimental research employed a post-test-only control group design. We utilized diffusion (measuring inhibition zone) and dilution (determining phenol coefficients) methods. The treatments, performed in triplicate, included PB+CH infusion at concentrations 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, with 70% alcohol and 5% phenol as control. They were tested against five types of ATCC standard bacterial isolates. Results: Phytochemical screening of the tested infusion revealed the presence of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids. The inhibition zone area increased with concentration, with PB+CH 100% producing the most significant effect. ANOVA and post-hoc Duncan test analysis (p < 0.05) showed significant differences between treatment groups. PB+CH infusion at 75-100% produced antibacterial effects exceeding the control for all bacteria tested, except S. typhi. Phenol coefficient tests (dilution 1:20-1:250) showed the effectiveness of PB+CH infusion as a potential antiseptic. The infusion had a phenol equivalent coefficient of 5% against S. aureus, S. epidermidis, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa but only 0.99 ± 0.07 for S. typhi. The 70% alcohol coefficient value was < 1. Conclusion: The combined infusion of betel leaves and kaffir lime demonstrates significant antibacterial activity and shows a potential candidate as an effective natural antiseptic.
