Abstract

The coastal area of Rupat Island has a high level of vulnerability to abrasion and sea waves, requiring coastal protection structures in the form of revetments to protect the shoreline area. Along with the increasing age of the structures, the physical condition and function of the revetments have deteriorated due to the continuous influence of waves and sea currents. This study aims to identify the performance index of coastal revetment structures on Rupat Island based on the Guidelines for Operation and Maintenance of Coastal Protection Structures SE No. 01/SE/M/2011. The research was conducted through inventory surveys, monitoring, and evaluation of the physical condition of the structures in several villages on Rupat Island. The performance index assessment was carried out based on the condition of structural components, including the crest, outer slope, outer foundation, outer mattress, and armor layer, using weighting values according to the revetment structure type. The results showed that the condition of the revetments on Rupat Island varied from good, fairly good, requiring repair, to heavily damaged categories. The highest index value was found in RV Segment 1A with a value of 3.80, categorized as heavily damaged, while most other segments were classified as fairly good with index values ranging from 1.90 to 2.50. Several segments, such as RV Segments 2E–2J, 6K–6L, 10Q–10AD, and 11C–11J, were categorized as requiring repair due to structural deterioration. The most dominant damage occurred in the armor and outer mattress components due to continuous wave and sea current action. Based on the evaluation results, routine maintenance, rehabilitation, and priority handling are required for segments with high damage levels to maintain the optimal function of coastal protection structures.

Abstract

Abstract

The distribution of clean water remains a challenge, especially in rural areas. To address this issue, the government has implemented the PAMSIMAS Program as an alternative solution for providing clean water. Howev er, due to the conventional distribution system being less than optimal, further analysis is conducted through numer ical simulations using the EPANET 2.2 software to identify problems and formulate improvement solutions. Existing condition data and technical specifications of the pipe network are used as input for the analysis, referring to the Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 18 of 2007 to evaluate pressure, velocity, and head loss at each node and pipe. Three simulations were conducted: the existing condition, system improvement simulation, and projection of clean water needs until 2040, using the geometric method to calculate population growth. In 2024, the water de mand for 224 residents was recorded at 0.257 liters/second, indicating that the flow velocity did not meet the re quired standard. As a result, improvements such as pump replacement and pipe diameter adjustments were neces sary. The 2040 projection estimates a population increase to 1,470 people with a constant service level of 18.93%, leading to a projected water demand of 0.319 liters/second. The simulation results indicate that replacing the 2 HP pump with a 3 HP unit, along with adjusting the pipe diameter from 40–50 mm to 20–40 mm.

Abstract

Pesantren Alfahmu, located in Tambang District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, faces significant challenges in securing a reliable clean water supply for its students and daily operations. This community service activity aimed to assess groundwater potential at three strategic locations within the pesantren premises using the AIDU Golden Rod (AGR) geophysical instrument. The survey was conducted along four measurement lines across three points: the mosque/musholla area, the dormitory and classroom area, and the drinking water depot and ablution area. Data were processed and interpreted using AIDU Prospecting software with multiple configurations (Configuration-0, Configuration-1, and Configuration-2). Results indicate that all surveyed areas have viable aquifer potential. Confined aquifers were consistently identified at depths of 165–300 meters at all three points, offering more stable and sustained water supply compared to shallow free aquifers (0–50 m depth) which are highly influenced by rainfall. Recommended drilling depths range from 165–275 meters with screening pipes installed at appropriate depths. The mosque/musholla area is recommended as the primary centralized drilling location due to its strategic central position. Pre-test and post-test questionnaire results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding from 8% to 75%.
