Abstract

This paper mainly tries to explore the new Model of Indonesian Economic Diplomacy to Non-Traditional Market by Setiawan & Sulastri (2020) with a study case of increasing vegetable oil export to Brazil. Brazil is one of the main targets of Indonesia’s export-development policy to non-traditional markets. The main concern of this paper is how economic diplomacy plays a role in reacting to the declining trend of vegetable oil exports as Indonesia’s leading export product to Brazil during 2016-2020. This paper is a descriptive qualitative research using simple trade calculations to justify Indonesian exports orientation. This paper found there are at least 6 driving factors for the implementation of economic diplomacy, 3 prominent actors for conducting economic diplomacy and 8 processes of economic diplomacy. Indonesia has successfully increased the export trend of vegetable oil to Brazil in the period of 2017-2021, however specific economic diplomacy efforts to encourage vegetable oil exports were identified as minimum.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest maritime countries in the world, therefore ports are very important for Indonesia in the national maritime sector. To maximize the quality of national ports to support export and import activities, international standard ports are needed. Unfortunately, ports in Indonesia still do not meet international standards, therefore Indonesia cooperates with the Netherlands as a form of Indonesia's commitment to improve the quality of national ports. Indonesia and the Netherlands established a Maritime Cooperation which was signed in Den Haag as a Memorandum of Understanding on 22 April 2016. At the implementation stage of this cooperation, several obstacles were encountered which resulted in the construction of this port being still unfinished. This study try to explain the cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands in the development and management of Indonesia's national port infrastructure, namely the Kuala Tanjung Port in the 2015-2020 period. This study uses a functional bilateral cooperation approach to see the economic improvement and investment of the two countries in port development in Indonesia. The results of the study show that the Indonesia-Netherlands bilateral cooperation in the construction of the Kuala Tanjung Port can be realized although in some cases it is still experiencing obstacles and is in the negotiation stage from both parties.

Abstract

As international trade flows, businesses aim to expand their market to the global market. One of Indonesia’s flagship industries in trade is the creative industry, in which handicrafts are produced. Handicrafts have been Yogyakarta’s (officially, the Special Region of Yogyakarta) featured product for export. The government has tried many efforts to increase the chance of accessing the global market with the handicrafts, such as holding exhibitions and building capacity for the craftsmen. Not only the government but also the private sectors are supporting the effort. This study aims to visualize and analyze the role of the private sector in improving the local and global craft markets. We conducted interviews from May to October 2022 with Yogyakarta’s government and private sectors to obtain primary data. We also used document analysis to supplement the interviews' analysis. Results show that the role of the private sector, both when working independently and in partnership with the government, is important in supporting the export of Yogyakarta’s craft products. However, the study also found that there are some challenges that need to be solved to optimize the private sector’s role. Therefore, future studies can be focused on private sector strategies for addressing challenges in export activities.

Abstract

The United States (US) is one of beef exporting countries in Japan. The high level of demand for beef in Japan was followed by a decrease in the volume of US beef from Japan during 2017-2020 period caused by import barriers in the form of tariffs faced by US beef. These tariff barriers arise because the US does not have a trade agreement with Japan. This study aims to discuss the efforts made by the US through negotiating tariff barriers with Japan regarding beef exports. This study uses the concepts of economic diplomacy and trade theory as the basis for research analysis. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data collection through documentation study. The results of this study indicate that the US effort in negotiating tariff barriers with Japan is to form a bilateral trade agreement, namely the US-Japan Trade Agreement (USJTA) which uses the stages of decision-making in economic diplomacy in its formation. Through this effort, the US successfully lowered its beef import tariffs in Japan and leveled its beef competitive level with the CPTPP member countries. In the formation of the USJTA, various actors are involved, both state and non-state actors. Efforts to negotiate tariff barriers on beef exports by the US and Japan succeeded in increasing US beef exports after the establishment of the USJTA began to be implemented on January 1, 2020. Abstract

The government has set the construction of the first high-speed train in Indonesia by building High Speed Rail for the Jakarta-Bandung line. The aspect of financing and the potential for economic income is always become in the spotlight, as well as the urgency. Beyond that, it is important to see the presence of the high-speed train not only from its economic growth, or the calculation of profit and loss, but also from economic development as well as sustainable development. This study, which is based on literature studies and is also supported by field observations, shows that the construction of the high-speed train can be an entry point for laying down the concept of sustainable development. This study also shows that the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train is able to create employment, and creates a sustainable city development, especially in areas outside the city center, such as Tegalluar Station which is outside the urban core area. By creating support and opportunities from this potential, as well as ensuring good governance with quality policies and laws that are in accordance with sustainable development, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project is a milestone towards achieving sustainable development goals.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the structure of people's lives, including the work models. The telework work model is increasingly being used because it is considered capable of facilitating mobility, cost efficiency, and offering time flexibility for workers. Most studies about telework and disabled persons focus on cases in developed countries and increasing job opportunities. This study aims to provide an overview of the socio-economic impact of telework on Persons with Disability (PwD) in developing countries, specifically in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative method with case study approach. Data were collected by in-depth interviews and literature studies on articles, journals, books, and open-source references regarding telework and disability. This study found that the telework model has made disabled workers in Indonesia even more marginalized. Moreover, the telework model had triggered financial difficulties among disabled workers, such as salary cuts, temporary and permanent lay-offs, and job loss. Furthermore, this is because most disabled workers in Indonesia have low education level, skills, limited access to the internet, and limited access to telework facilities. Meanwhile, this study aims to provide an overview of socio-economic impact from telework models on disabled persons in developing countries, especially in Indonesia, where most disabled persons have low education level and poor digital skill. This study offers recommendations to create an inclusive telework market, that is; conduct job analysis, improve the education system and digital skill for PwD, provide assisting and supporting facilities, guarantee for workers with disability, as well as monitoring and evaluation.

The preparation of this manual book is very urgent because the agency has the responsibility to accelerate bureaucratic reform as mandated by Presidential Regulation number 10 regarding of the Grand Design of Bureaucratic Reform 2010-2025. Based on an analysis, the results of the assessment of bureaucratic reform including public services within the agency have not obtained maximum results despite an increasing trend in recent years. On the other hand, the Election Supervisory Agency of Indonesia doesn't have a technical guide yet to measure the performance of services that have been carried out. The results of community service focus on the preparation of the Community Satisfaction Survey Book. This book is very helpful for the Election Supervisory Agency of Indonesia to improve the performance of public services through the implementation of the Community Satisfaction Survey which will be carried out within the agency's environment at all levels. The results of this service activity can of course be a reference for all election supervisory organizers throughout Indonesia, especially in relation to how to carry out the duties and functions of public services for the community in a measurable and sustainable manner.
