Abstract

Healthcare services must continuously be improved to provide the best care for the community. Patient satisfaction is the result of patients' evaluations of healthcare services, comparing their expectations with the actual healthcare services received in a hospital setting. Patient satisfaction with laboratory services is not solely determined by the availability of sufficient healthcare personnel but also requires strong commitment and dedication from healthcare workers to provide professional services, supported by adequate facilities and medical equipment. This study aims to assess the level of outpatient satisfaction with laboratory services at RSUD Klungkung. The research employs an observational method with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, with a sample of 97 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The data analysis in this study was performed using the Chi-Square test. Based on the five service quality dimensions—reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles—the results showed a p-value < 0.05. Among these dimensions, responsiveness had the lowest p-value (0.005 < 0.05), indicating its stronger influence. These findings conclude that there is a significant relationship between service quality dimensions and the level of outpatient satisfaction with laboratory services at RSUD Klungkung. Furthermore, the responsiveness dimension, which had the lowest p-value compared to the other four dimensions, indicates that it has the most significant impact on patient satisfaction with laboratory services provided by the staff at RSUD Klungkung.

Abstract

Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is an endocrine disorder that can cause developmental delays if not detected and treated early. Congenital Hypothyroidism Screening (CHS) aims to detect abnormal levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in newborns before clinical symptoms appear. The timing of blood sample collection is a critical factor because TSH levels physiologically surge within the first 24 hours of life. This study aims to determine the accuracy of TSH sampling time in CH screening at Prima Medika General Hospital, Denpasar. A descriptive analytical method was used with a total sampling technique involving 105 neonates who underwent CHS from October to December 2024. Secondary data were obtained from laboratory request forms and the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Results showed that 92.4% of samples were collected on the second day of life, which aligns with the ideal window of 48–72 hours, and only 1.9% of neonates had elevated TSH levels. The study concludes that most sample collections met the recommended timing, contributing to valid results and effective CHS implementation. Timely sampling plays a vital role in early CH detection and reflects the overall quality of neonatal laboratory services.

Abstract

Cleaning service staff working in laboratories are at high risk of exposure to hazardous materials. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is a crucial step in preventing occupational accidents. However, the level of compliance with PPE usage varies and is influenced by the knowledge and attitude of the staff. This issue highlights the need to understand the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of cleaning service staff and their compliance with the use of PPE. This study employed an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 58 cleaning service staff participated as respondents, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 60.3% of respondents had good knowledge regarding the use of PPE, while 73% had a positive attitude toward its usage. The chi-square test revealed a p-value of 0.03 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between attitude and compliance with PPE usage among cleaning service staff. The chi-square test for the relationship between knowledge and compliance yielded a p-value of 0.01 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between knowledge and compliance. The findings indicate that the knowledge of cleaning service staff positively correlates with their compliance in using PPE. Staff members with good knowledge were more likely to comply with PPE usage. Adequate knowledge enables staff to understand laboratory risks and the benefits of PPE in preventing exposure to hazardous materials, thereby encouraging safer behavior, promoting communication among staff, reminding one another, and embedding safety values into daily work routines.

Abstract

Green betel leaves contain compounds that can treat vaginal discharge, especially those caused by bacteria. To determine the effect of green betel leaf extract on the growth of Bacteroides in vaginal secretion cultures, this study used a quantitative experimental method, where vaginal secretion samples were taken from the subjects and then tested quantitatively. There were two data collection techniques used in this study: using a questionnaire and testing vaginal secretion samples with green betel leaf extract. The test for using was diffusion (paper disc) for the antibacterial test. The media used was MHA. The positive control used was a blank disc, the extract concentration series used were 20%, 25% and 30%. The diameter of the inhibition zone was observed and then analyzed. The results of the t-test analysis showed that the significance value was 0.00 <0.05, so H0 was rejected Ha was accepted or it could be concluded that there was a difference in the effect of giving green betel leaf extract on the growth of Bacteroides in vaginal secretion culture. Antibacterial activity test of green betel leaves (Piper betle L) against Bacteroides bacteria that cause Bacterial Vaginosis, namely resistant at a concentration of 20%, intermediate at a concentration of 25% and sensitive at a concentration of 30%. Green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L) has inhibitory power against Bacteroides bacteria that cause Bacterial Vaginosis. Can increase the concentration series of methanol extract of green betel leaves, find the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and the maximum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of green betel leaf extract against Bacteroides bacteria that cause Bacterial Vaginosis

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease caused by pancreatic failure in performing its function of producing insulin. A lack of insulin will lead to an increase in blood glucose levels, also known as hyperglycemia. Hemoglobin A1c and microalbuminuria are screening examinations used to detect the early onset of diabetic nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy is defined as a clinical syndrome in diabetes mellitus patients characterized by persistent albuminuria, an irreversible decrease in glomerular filtration rate, and increased arterial blood pressure. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between Hemoglobin A1c and microalbuminuria in diabetes mellitus patients at Prodia Sunter. The research method used is quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The data collected were secondary data from the period of January–July 2024 with a total of 60 samples. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling and met the inclusion criteria, namely patients over 60 years of age, Hemoglobin A1c value ≥7, diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, no history of thalassemia, and who had undergone Hemoglobin A1c and microalbuminuria examinations. The results of this study show a significant unidirectional positive relationship with a very strong correlation between Hemoglobin A1c levels and microalbuminuria in diabetes mellitus patients, with sig (2-tailed) = 0.000 and correlation coefficient value = 0.892. The relationship between Hemoglobin A1c levels and microalbuminuria is unidirectional positive, meaning that the higher the Hemoglobin A1c levels, the higher the microalbuminuria levels.

Abstract

Urine alcohol testing plays a vital role in detecting alcohol consumption for clinical and forensic purposes, yet its results may be influenced by pre-analytical factors such as the delay between sample collection and laboratory analysis. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of delay time before urine examination on alcohol concentration. An experimental One-Shot Case Study design was conducted involving 44 participants in Denpasar who had consumed alcohol. Alcohol concentration was measured immediately, after a 2-hour delay, and after a 4-hour delay using the Alcohol Urine Rapid Test Dipstick Allchek, and the data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The findings showed that average urine alcohol levels increased numerically after a 2- and 4-hour delay compared to immediate testing; however, this change was not statistically significant (p=0.131). These results confirm that delaying urine alcohol examination up to 4 hours does not significantly alter detectable alcohol concentrations, although prompt testing is still recommended to ensure result accuracy and minimize the risk of false positives. This study provides important insights for the development of standard operating procedures regarding urine alcohol analysis in laboratory practice.

Abstract

The examination of hemoglobin levels in the elderly is crucial as iron deficiency or anemia is often found in this age group. Various methods of hemoglobin examination are used in healthcare facilities. This study aims to identify the differences in hemoglobin levels using the Dirui BCC-3600 and Quick Check devices in the elderly population at Puskesmas Biromaru. This research is descriptive-comparative in nature. The sample consisted of 30 patients undergoing hemoglobin examination at the Puskesmas Biromaru laboratory between March 29th and April 30th, 2023. The sampling method used was accidental sampling, with venous blood samples from 30 respondents. The results of the study showed that the average hemoglobin level using the Dirui BCC-3600 device was 12.86 g/dL, while with the Quick Check device it was 11.77 g/dL. Normality testing was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk test, which yielded a p-value of 0.023. A p-value < 0.05 indicates non-normal data distribution, thus followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The Mann-Whitney test resulted in a significant value (p) = 0.011. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in hemoglobin levels using the Dirui BCC-3600 and Quick Check devices in the elderly.

Abstract

Kidney function disorders refer to a condition where the kidneys' ability to filter metabolic waste from the blood and excrete it through urine is compromised. Cystatin C serves as a sensitive and specific biomarker for measuring glomerular filtration rate, accurately reflecting kidney function. This study aims to evaluate Cystatin C levels based on gender among patients with kidney function disorders at the Prodia Cibubur clinic laboratory. The research was conducted from February to March 2023 using a descriptive cross-sectional approach. The sample comprised 120 patients with kidney function disorders selected through total sampling. The findings indicate that 16 patients (13.3%) had normal Cystatin C levels, while 104 patients (86.7%) had elevated Cystatin C levels. Notably, among males, 61 individuals (50.8%) tended to exhibit higher Cystatin C levels, suggesting a greater potential for kidney function disorders due to factors such as activity intensity, body mass influence, and hormonal factors.
