Abstract

The development of photography technology, which mounted on digital photography, has provided real challenge for traditional photography. Digital photography open up opportunity for photographer to transform and modify pictures taken by digital camera. This challenge also affected journalism photography. Viewed from the side of mass media technology, photography digital seemed to give many benefits for mass media industry. Digital photography beat traditional photography in terms of place and time. But one must keep in mind that journalism deals only with factual matters. A serious discussion over ethical issues concerning the practice of digital photography in journalism was necessary.

Abstract

The development of ads and advertising raise some sociocultural issues concerning the sign being represented, image being constructed, information being delivered, meaning being acquired, and how everything affects perception, understanding, and public behavior. Advertising is attached to the product, offering images as values and moral reference for public. Advertising creates image of a product and assigns social relationship as reflected on status, prestige, and social class. Postmodernism establish a new form of signification: form follows fun. It is not the meaning, but the interplay between signs that considered the most important thing in advertising.

Abstract

Design piracy, though considered as serious problems, is often overlooked. This phenomenoncommonly found in Third World countries. The government have been have been employing many ways to reduce piracy, such as adopting Intellectual Property Rights. But the effort to combat piracy was challenged by some parties which benefited from such activities. Piracy, in micro perspective, eliminates fair competition and creates unfair competition. The culture of piracy also harassed and submerged the role of law. Law enforcement toward Intellectual Property Rights is a must. The challenge is how to awaken members of society toward the importance of Intellectual Property Rights.

Abstract

Menemukan kesepakatan tentang batasan pornografi memang sangat sulit. Apa yang dianggap pornografi oleh seseorang atau komunitas justru dipandang seni oleh seseorang atau komunitas lain. Begitu juga ketika masalah ini memasuki dunia fotografi. Foto telanjang, misalnya. masuk ke dalam pornografi atau seni? Di tengah ambiguitas definisi pornografi. jika sampai pada tataran aksi. pada akhirnya kita tetap membutuhkan rambu-rambu. Dalam fotografi, ketelanjangan objek manusia dianggap seni jika yang ditampilkan adalahs egi estetika. melalui rekayasa teknik pengambilan, permainan pencahayaan, komposisi, dan sebagainya. Sebaliknya, objek tersebut jatuh kedalam pornografi bila yang ditonjolkan adalah sisi erotismenya belaka

Abstract

Tirto.id is an online news site known for its infographics. The information contained in Tirto.id is generally an in-depth report that has a long duration of written characteristics. One of the interesting news is about the looting of warship carcasses in Indonesian waters titled “The Mystery of the Dutch War shipwreck in the Java Sea” issue of January 18, 2018. The news is Mnejadi exclusive report on Tirto.id. With a fairly long writing duration. However, the presence of infographics is one way to understand long stories more easily and quickly. Using the case study method, the study aims to see infographic functions in the news in-depth. The results found are: (1) The infographic presented Tirto.id in its in-depth writing has some characteristics such as the use of more formal layouts than other news infographic layouts, the input data contains the news value, And the use of bright colors and interesting illustrations; (2) The depth of information that is presented in-depth infographics is still lacking when compared to the depth of the news itself, but between infographics and their contents is complementary unity; (3) The use of infographics in an in-depth news is nothing but a reader’s attention.

Abstract

The banner of political advertising is a medium often used by prospective candidates who will fight in elections. As a medium of information, the installation of banners on crowded major arterial road is believed to be a powerful way to introduce themselves to the voting community. However, the existing phenomenon that political communication contained in the banner of political advertising tend to have the same pattern from year to year without any innovations. Using qualitative methods with social semiotics approach, this research revealed the visual modalities in banner ads of Bandung mayoral candidates for the period of 20182023.Modality is a social semiotics approach to the question of truth in the form of choices in expressing the message. Based on visual modalities analysis, the meaning of truth has low, medium, and high degree. The results of this study are (1) the Ad banners displayed website addresses and social media accounts to make it easier for audiences to seek additional information about prospective candidates (high modalities); (2) The ad banners displayed the headline of candidates and taglines (jargon) in accordance with the vision offered (high modalities); (3)the Ad banners displayed Bandung locality issues around happiness, beauty, comfort, until Bandung Creative (low modalities); (4) The target audience of the ad banners Bandung mayor candidates are students and college students (medium modality).

Abstract

Information technology nowadays results in spreading information rapidly. Everyone can easily produce information quickly through several social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or mobile phone messages, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, etc. It is alarming if the information conveyed is inaccurate such as a hoax with a highly provocative title, leading the reader and recipient to obtain a negative opinion. For fighting hoaxes and preventing their negative impacts, the government has adequate legal protection named ITE Law. Apart from the legal product, the government also forms the National Cyber Institution. For example, in West Java, the government has formed West Java Clean Sweep Team (Saber) for Hoaxes, in charge of verifying information distribution in public. The team is built as proactive efforts of the West Java Provincial Government to secure the residents of West Java from disseminating fake news. This article examines how the West Java Saber Hoaxes Team carried out a strategy to minimize the dissemination of fake news (hoaxes) on social media. The research used descriptive studies through in-depth interviews on West Java Saber Hoaxes Team. The result of the research showed that strategies conducted by this team are monitoring, receiving complaints, and educating the public.

Abstract

Fenomena yang terjadi saat ini anak-anak menghabiskan waktunya bermain dengan gawainya. Melihat kondisi ini, dapat menjadi hambatan pada pengembangan karakter anak. Solusi permasalahan diatas dikembangkanlah model komunikasi visual berbasis gim yang menarik bagi anak usia dini yaitu gim android ASIK (Agamis Sistematis Interaktif Kreatif). Subjek penelitian adalah anak usia 4-6 tahun sejumlah 30 orang. Adapun desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain kuantititatif “Quasi Experiment”, adapun rancangan penelitian yang dipilih adalah “The Non Equivalent Control Group. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektifitas gim ASIK terhadap pengembangan nilai moral dan agama anak usia dini dalam pengembangan karakter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol setelah diberikan perlakuan gim ASIK di kelas eksperimen dan pembelajaran kovensional di kelas kontrol. Pada kelas eksperimen, anak-anak melakukan aktivitas mengikuti visualisasi yang ada dalam gim bertemakan pengembangan karakter dan mereka lebih cepat memahami dengan baik nilai karakter yang disampaikan

Abstract

The massive spread of information about COVID-19 hoaxes since 2020 is a problem that any country, including Indonesia, must face. In anticipation of this, the West Java government conducted a fact-checking process using multiplatform Instagram @jabarsaberhoaks. This study aims to identify the fact-checking process that has been carried out by @jabarsaberhoaks accounts using the content analysis method of identifying 334 posts about COVID-19 hoaxes during 2020. The results showed that @jabarsaberhoaks conducted the fact-check by finding data from various hoax themes by checking official sources such as media, authorized agencies, and expert sources nationally and internationally. A note of correction of the clarification results from COVID-19 was published on Instagram. This research finding necessitates stakeholders intensify their campaigns and educate the community on COVID-19 information literacy to understand and respond to the COVID-19 phenomenon adequately.

Abstract

Abstract. Since March 2020, news about the Covid-19 pandemic has increasingly dominated media content considering that the virus has begun to enter this country. This study focuses on media coverage of the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine. The purpose of this study is to determine the credibility (accuracy, believability, bias and completeness) online media Detik.com and Kompas.com. This study uses a quantitative approach with content analysis method. Data collection techniques are carried out by the coding process statements or writing. Flanagin and Metzger's credibility theory was used with the object of research being the credibility of the Covid-19 vaccine distribution news in the online media Detik.com and Kompas.com December 2020 - February 2021 edition. The results of the study stated that the news published by Kompas.com on the believability dimension received 21% opinion and 93% transparency. Dimension accuracy is 100% according to the title, 73% there is a writing error, and 43% is the suitability of the photo. The bias dimension is 53% cover both sides and the completeness dimension is 80% completeness 5W+1H. For news published by Detik.com on the believability dimension, it gets 18% opinion and 87% transparency. Dimension accuracy is 100% according to the title, 47% there are writing errors, and 88% is the suitability of the photo. The bias dimension is 33% cover both sides and the completeness dimension is 100% completeness 5W+1H. Based on the four dimensions, news about the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine in Indonesia published by Kompas.com and Detik.com did not all meet the dimensions of credibility. Abstrak. Semenjak bulan Maret 2020 pemberitaan seputar pandemi Covid-19 semakin mendominasi isi media mengingat virus tersebut mulai memasuki negeri ini. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pemberitaan media mengenai distribusi vaksin Covid-19. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kredibilitas (accuracy, believability, bias dan completeness) media online Detik.com dan Kompas.com. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara proses coding atau menyandi pernyataan atau penulisan. Untuk membedah penelitian ini digunakan teori kredibilitas Flanagin dan Metzger dengan objek penelitian kredibilitas pemberitaan distribusi vaksin Covid-19 di media online Detik.com dan Kompas.com edisi Desember 2020 – Februari 2021. Hasil penelitian menyatakan berita yang dimuat Kompas.com pada dimensi believability mendapatkan 21% opinitative dan 93% transparansi. Dimensi accuracy 100% kesesuaian judul, 73% ada kesalahan penulisan, dan 43% kesesuaian foto. Dimensi bias 53% cover both sides dan dimensi completeness 80% kelengkapan 5W+1H. Untuk berita yang dimuat Detik.com pada dimensi believability mendapatkan 18% opinitative dan 87% transparansi.
