Abstract

This research was purposed to describe the way of the students' thinking in completing the vector-based test by physical context. The instrument of this research consisted of the respondent selection test (TSR), logical test with thinking-aloud (TA), and interview guidance. Respondents of this research were six students in one of the senior high school in Palu. Collecting data was held by applying a thinking-aloud (TA) and interview which recorded by using a video camera. The interview was conducted to find out supporting data in analyzing the result of thinking-aloud (TA) data. The analyzing data of the way of students' thinking can be seen from every step of their respondents in completing the test by using physical context. Generally, there are two thinking models that are deductive thinking and inductive thinking. In the analysis of the results of TA and interviews, obtained that respondents are more dominant used of deductive thinking in completing the test than inductive thinking. It was influenced by the teacher's method in providing the test when the teaching-learning process and the students' usage in completing the test.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how students 'kinesthetic learning activities on understanding the DSSC work principles and to determine the effect of students' kinesthetic activity processes on understanding the working principles of DSSC at Tadulako University. This research was a descriptive-qualitative study where all data is collected based on facts obtained in the field to produce descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from the people being observed. Respondents involved in this study were 42 students. Data obtained through activity activities, interview comprehension tests, and questionnaires. The results showed that students had been learning kinesthetic activities very well, through kinesthetic activities students became more active students and felt happy. This was reinforced by active discussion, test results where most students got good grades, and interviews. It can be seen that although students' learning styles differ if the kinesthetic learning style was applied, students can easily remember and understand if they do this directly, this was reinforced by a questionnaire. The information obtained by kinesthetic learning styles complements learning styles in addition to kinesthetic.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to analyze the difficulties of students of SMA Negeri 3 Palu. The subjects of this study were 26 students of SMA Negeri 3 Palu grade 11th IPA in the 2018/2019 academic year, 26 students who were divided into three categories: high, medium and low level based on the results of Respondent Selection Test (TSR). 2 respondens in each category were given a thinking-aloud test (TA). The instrument used in this study was a TSR consisting of 25 reasoned multiple choice questions and an essay test conducted in TA consisting of 6 essay questions. The results shoewd that difficulty of concepts understanding experienced by students divided into 4 types, namely: (1) difficulty of facts understanding, (2) difficulty of concepts understanding, (3) difficulties of operating and calculation processes, and (4) difficulty of principle understanding. Based on the results of the overall percentage of types shows that in general the difficulty of students' understanding concepts is in the high category with a percentage of difficulty of 67.5% and the factors that cause difficulties in understanding students' physics concepts consist of two factors namely external factors and internal factors.

Abstract

In this research, carbon nanotubes (CNT) fabrication has been tried by using an existing home-made Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (PECVD) system. The fabrication is a catalytic growth process, whereby a Fecatalyst thin film is grown on the Silicon substrate by using dc-Unbalanced Magnetron Sputtering. Methane (CH4) as carbon source and diluted silane (SiH4) in hydrogen as hydrogen source (ratio 10:1) was used for the CNT fabrication with the Very High Frequency PECVD (VHF-PECVD) method. The fabrication process was executed at the relatively low temperature of 250oC, but with the higher operating plasma frequency of 70 MHz. Recently, a fabrication process with only a single gas source has been carried out as well, but using a modified VHF-PECVD system with an additional hot-wirecomponent. The attempt was done at an higher growth temperature of 400oC. Morphological characterizations, by using Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) and Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM), and composition characterization, by using Energy Dispersion Analysis by X-Ray (EDAX), show convincing results that there are some signatures of CNT present.

Abstract

The Independent Learning Campus Independent Program is a national program that improves scholarly output quality by carrying out activities such as teaching assistants in academic units by students. A learning management system (LMS) is needed to carry out teaching assistance programs, especially evaluations. This program aims to train teachers at partner schools in using the LMS so that they can assist students in teaching assistance programs. This activity is carried out in training where teachers are trained to use LMS. Partners of this activity are junior and senior high schools in Central Sulawesi Province. The instruments used are observation sheets and interviews. From the observations, it is known that teachers can make good use of the LMS-based evaluation application designed by the service team. The results of the interviews reinforce this, where the teacher does not experience difficulties in using the assessment application for students in the teaching assistant program because it is equipped with clear instructions.

Abstract

This study explores students' problem-solving skills in thermodynamics at Grade XI Science Senior High School 1 Dampelas. This research is a qualitative descriptive study.  The research subjects consisted of 6 students was conducted in a high school in Dampelas. The research instrument used was a test of student’s problem-solving skills on thermodynamic based on Polya's problem-solving. Respondents consist of various cognitive abilities (high, medium, and low). They were also willing to do an interview. This study indicated that students' problem-solving skills on thermodynamic materials based on Polya's problem-solving steps in the "problem understanding stage" indicator are in the moderate category. Similarly, the "planning stage" indicator is categorized in the moderate category, whereas the "implementation stage" indicator. The "revisiting stage" falls into the moderate medium category with an average percentage of 66.66 %. This research implies that it is hoped that the teacher can use the Polya stages in giving practice questions or homework to students to solve physics problems.
