Abstract

Abstract

Human sparganosis, a parasitic infection prevalent in Asia, can progress to cerebral sparganosis, a severe condition with significant neurological symptoms. Diagnosis and treatment are challenging due to its clinical similarity to other infections, highlighting the need for improved detection and management strategies. The aim of this study was to observe research trends, key contributors, gaps in the existing knowledge, diagnosis challenges, effective treatment options, and prevention strategies, providing recommendations for future research directions and clinical practice improvements on cerebral sparganosis. A bibliometric analysis was conducted by extracting 139 documents from the Scopus database in June 2024. The retrieved data were analyzed using the R package's Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny) and VOSviewer. Spanning 97 different sources, the research exhibited an annual growth rate of 2.5%. Annual scientific production revealed fluctuating research activity with peaks in 2010 and 2011 and notable citation peaks in 1996 and 2005, indicating pivotal studies that significantly influenced subsequent research. Early studies focused on diagnosis and specific parasites, while recent studies (2010–2024) have increasingly addressed clinical outcomes, treatment strategies, and advanced diagnostic techniques. Trends revealed a shift towards clinical and diagnostic advancements, with recent emphasis on diagnostic imaging, immunoassays, and the relationship between cerebral sparganosis and brain tumors. In conclusion, the studies on cerebral sparganosis underscore the potential for enhancing clinical practice by improving diagnostic accuracy, informing treatment decisions, and implementing targeted screening efforts based on epidemiology and risk factors. Recommendation to further study needs to notify the cerebral sparganosis in high-risk countries with similar socioeconomic and cultural characteristics to endemic regions, including Indonesia.

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia has the highest prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in Asia. This shows the importance of early detection and treatment of CRE cases. This systematic review presents recent studies on the global pravelence of CRE, the use of antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) for detecting CRE, and detection methods of carbapenemase-producing CRE (CP-CRE). Method: A systematic review was conducted on English scientific articles published in PubMed, Science Direct, and Scopus from January 2018 to February 2022. Inclusion criteria were studies that performed CRE examination on human samples and the keywords were ‘antimicrobial susceptibility test’ OR ‘microbial sensitivity test’ OR ‘antimicrobial susceptibility breakpoint determination’ AND ‘carbapenem-resistant Enterobactericeae’ OR ‘carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae’. The study selection was carried out according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). Result: The literature search and study selection method resulted in a total of 11 articles for data extraction and analysis. The prevalence of CRE was 9.6% in the study that aimed for CRE screening. CRE is detected mostly by Vitek-2® in urine and blood samples showing imipenem and meropenem-resistant bacteria. Conclusion: The prevalence of CRE was high in the CRE case screening study. The most common CRE detection method is Vitek-2® that could be replaced with disk diffusion method in limited resources settings. CRE detection can be followed by the detection of carbapenemase-producing CRE (CP-CRE) by using genotypic, phenotypic, and fluorogenic assays.

Abstract

Manual rolling work can cause work fatigue due to high job targets. Banana (Musa sapientum) contains natural sugars such as sucrose, fructose, and glucose as a source of energy. Work fatigue can be overcome with energy supplementation such as banana. This study aimed to determine the effect of banana supplementation on the level of work fatigue of cigarette manual rolling workers in X factory Karanganyar. This research was a quasi-experimental, with a one-shot case study design. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, A total of 54 workers was randomly recruited as the sample. The independent variable of this study was banana (Musa sapientum), while the dependent variable was work fatigue. The Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the data. The Wilcoxon test showed that there was a significant difference between work fatigue before and after the banana supplementation to the cigarette manual rolling worker of X factory Karanganyar (p-value = 0.000). Thus, Banana (Musa sapientum) can be given as a food supplement to overcome the work fatigue problems in manual rolling workers.

Abstract

Background: Young women can suffer from anemia due to monthly menstruation and by having many activities without adequate iron-filled nutrition. Otherproblems found on them are overweight and obesity. The data show that one with overweight or obesity can lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) along with increasingproinflammatory cytokines, which will cause the transcription of hepcidin. The increaseof hepcidin transcription will inhibit the absorption of iron from the intestine into the circulation, inhibiting spending iron reserves into circulation, and inhibitingthe release of iron recycled from splenic macrophages. This can cause IDA. The purpose of this study was to obtain the proportion of iron deficiency anemia in overweight or obese young women. Methods: The design of this study was cross sectional using purposive sampling. The subjects of this study were the student from fiveselected Senior high schools inBoyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. The determination of IDAis done by using hemoglobin and indexes of erythrocytes. Results: This study was the follow-upof the previous study, which was conducted to 14 obese and/or overweightyoung women withanemia From 14 subjects, there wasone subject suffered from other anemia and 13 subjects with IDA (using index erythrocytes examination). Their mean of MCV was 72.68±4.29fl, MCH was 23.08±2.63pg, and MCHC was 35.21±0.65 %.Conclusions: From this study, almost all overweight or obeseyoung women with anemia were indicated as IDA (92.8%).
