Abstract

This study investigates the relationships between digital competence, academic self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and academic engagement among undergraduate students in Jakarta. The study hypothesizes that digital competence, academic self-efficacy, and emotional intelligence are positively associated with academic engagement simultaneously. A quantitative non-experimental design was employed using a non-probability convenience sampling technique, and data were collected through questionnaires administered to 211 participants. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings support the proposed hypotheses. Digital competence demonstrated the strongest positive effect on academic engagement (β = 0.459), followed by academic self-efficacy (β = 0.406) and emotional intelligence (β = 0.367). Collectively, these variables explained 71.8% of the variance in academic engagement (R² = 0.718). These findings suggest that developing students’ personal capacities is essential for sustaining academic persistence within increasingly digitalized higher education environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational school leadership on teachers’ innovative work behavior (IWB), with school climate and work engagement serving as mediating variables. The study is grounded in the need for schools to continuously innovate in order to deliver relevant learning experiences, where leadership and teachers’ psychological conditions play crucial roles. The research was conducted with 60 teachers at XYZ School, North Toraja, employing a quantitative approach and path analysis using PLS-SEM. The findings show that transformational leadership has a positive effect on school climate, work engagement, and innovative work behavior. These results indicate that the principal’s support, vision, and exemplary conduct help create a positive work environment and foster teachers’ psychological energy. Furthermore, work engagement positively influences innovative behavior and serves as a mediator linking transformational leadership to teachers’ innovation. Conversely, school climate does not have a positive effect on innovative behavior and does not mediate the relationship. Overall, this study highlights that to promote teachers’ innovative work behavior, schools must strengthen humanistic and empowering transformational leadership practices and develop strategies that enhance work engagement as a foundational driver of innovation.

Abstract

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in higher education raises a critical but underexamined question: does digital transformation advance academic thriving equitably, or does it reproduce existing inequalities among students? This paper addresses that question through a narrative integrative review grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Searches across three databases—Scopus, Google Scholar, and the Sinta portal—identified 36 sources, of which 16 met strict inclusion criteria (Scopus Q1/Q2, SJR above 1.0 or Sinta 1–2; publication years 2017–2026) and were retained as the primary evidence base for thematic synthesis. An additional eight foundational theoretical references were incorporated to strengthen the SDT-based framework and acknowledge the theoretical development of the constructs; these references were not subject to the same systematic screening process because they predate the 2017–2026 search boundary. The total number of references cited in the manuscript is 24. A three-pass thematic coding procedure applied to the 16 selected studies identified three consistent analytical patterns. First, human-centered artificial intelligence supports student engagement by satisfying the SDT needs for autonomy and competence, but only when system design prioritizes human oversight over automation efficiency. Second, institutional support converts AI-enabled engagement into sustained academic perseverance by fulfilling the SDT need for relatedness. Third, socioeconomic status functions as a boundary moderator that determines how equitably both pathways reach different student populations. These literature-derived patterns are distinguished from four propositions newly formulated by the authors. Synthesizing both, this study proposes the Human-Centered Digital Academic Thriving Framework (HC-DATF), a formally articulated conceptual model with two antecedents, two sequential mediators, one boundary moderator, and four testable propositions. The framework offers theoretical and practical contributions for universities, policymakers, and educational technology developers committed to equitable digital learning environments.

Abstract

Parental involvement is widely recognized as a critical determinant of children’s academic success. This article conceptually examines the role of family and community in supporting children’s learning through the lens of Parental Involvement Theory. The manuscript serves as a scholarly foundation for a community service parenting seminar to be conducted in Bangkok, Thailand. Employing a conceptual review supported by empirical literature, the analysis highlights the strategic role of families as primary educational environments in shaping children’s motivation, discipline, and self-regulated learning. Furthermore, communities function as reinforcing agents of academic culture through social support and inter-parental collaboration. The article argues that synergy between family and community constitutes an essential foundation for constructing a sustainable and adaptive learning ecosystem. Keywords: community-based education; parental involvement; Parental Involvement Theory; family education; learning ecosystem

Abstract

Gap: Doctoral education is increasingly expected to accommodate diverse learner backgrounds and the professional commitments of working scholars. While hybrid and personalized learning models are often proposed as solutions to enhance flexibility in doctoral programs, empirical evidence on how these approaches shape doctoral students’ learning experiences remains limited. Objective: This study aims to examine the learning experiences of students enrolled in a hybrid doctoral program in educational technology that integrates personalized learning principles. Method: Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from eight doctoral students who participated in the program’s initial onsite academic sessions. The survey explored four dimensions of the learning experience: perceived academic quality, learning interaction, personalized learning experience, and the overall learning environment. Result: The results indicate a high level of student satisfaction with the onsite sessions, with an average satisfaction score of 4.63 on a five-point scale. Students reported that the academic discussions were intellectually stimulating and that interactions with faculty members and peers fostered critical reflection and scholarly development. The findings also suggest that hybrid learning environments can balance academic rigor with flexibility, which is particularly valuable for doctoral students who are working professionals. Novelty: This study contributes new empirical insights into the early learning experiences of doctoral students in a hybrid doctoral program that integrates personalized learning principles, with particular attention to academic depth, intellectual interaction, and the development of doctoral identity.

Abstract

Saudi Arabia’s labour-market transformation combines workforce localisation with selective pathways intended to attract exceptional foreign talent. This study examines how Indonesian professionals interpret these regulatory arrangements as social conditions affecting their intention to remain with their current organisation. An explanatory quantitative cross-sectional survey of 167 purposively selected Indonesian professionals in Saudi Arabia was analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The study models perceived Nitaqat implementation, perceived attractiveness of the exceptional naturalisation policy, remuneration, and perceived residency constraints. Perceived Nitaqat pressure was negatively associated with organisational intention to stay (β = −0.256, t = 3.720, p < .001), whereas perceived attractiveness of exceptional naturalisation was positively associated with intention to stay (β = 0.354, t = 4.072, p < .001). Nitaqat did not significantly predict remuneration (β = −0.033, p = .603), and remuneration did not mediate the Nitaqat–intention relationship (indirect β = −0.006, p = .623). Exceptional naturalisation strongly predicted remuneration perceptions (β = 0.659, t = 12.823, p < .001), remuneration positively predicted intention to stay (β = 0.198, t = 2.456, p = .014), and remuneration partially mediated the naturalisation–intention relationship (indirect β = 0.130, p = .015). Residency constraints negatively moderated the remuneration–intention relationship (β = −0.148, t = 2.056, p = .040). The results show that Indonesian professionals do not process state regulation as a single labour-market signal. Localisation pressure and long-term status opportunity are associated with different retention mechanisms, while residency insecurity reduces the extent to which financial rewards translate into organisational staying. The contribution to Law and Society is to demonstrate empirically that formal regulatory arrangements acquire behavioural meaning through professionals' perceptions of security, opportunity, and future social membership; retention, therefore, cannot be understood solely in terms of organisational rewards.

Abstract

Teacher performance plays a role in determining the quality of learning. Public elementary schools in Mapanget District face challenges in teacher performance, including limitations in lesson planning, inconsistent reflection, limited innovation, leadership changes, and workloads that are not matched by recognition. This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership and teacher competence on teacher performance, with the psychological contract as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed using a sample of 105 teachers. Data were collected through surveys and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that teacher competence has a positive effect on teacher performance, both directly and indirectly through the psychological contract as a partial mediator. In contrast, transformational leadership does not have a positive effect on teacher performance, either directly or indirectly through the psychological contract. These findings indicate that teacher competence and the psychological contract are important factors in improving teacher performance. Therefore, strengthening teacher competence and maintaining positive psychological contracts should become priorities in efforts to improve teacher performance and support learning quality in public elementary schools. This improvement requires strategies that consider teachers and workplace relationships.
