Abstract

Background Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen frequently associated with severe hospital-acquired infections, particularly in intensive care units, and is characterized by high levels of antibiotic resistance, including to carbapenems. The rising prevalence of multidrug- and pan-drug-resistant strains poses significant therapeutic challenges and underscores the need for optimized treatment strategies to improve survival outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the impact of different antibiotic treatment modalities (monotherapy versus combination) on the clinical outcome of patients with Acinetobacter baumannii infection. Methods This systematic review and meta-analysis followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. To find pertinent studies released up to 3 January 2025 a thorough search was done in electronic databases such as PubMed, Embase, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, and Scopus.  Results This systematic review and meta-analysis identified 20 studies for inclusion. No statistically significant overall survival difference was found (Pooled OR = 0.83, 95% CI [0.66- 1.03], p = 0.09), but subgroup analyses indicated that combination therapy markedly enhanced survival rates in patients with carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii  (CRAB) infection, APACHE II scores below 20, and bloodstream infections. Meta-regression suggested that age may adversely affect treatment efficacy.   A trend favoring combination therapy was consistent across subgroups, despite some results not reaching statistical significance. Conclusion This systematic review and meta-analysis highlights the treatment challenges of drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, particularly MDRAB, XDRAB, and CRAB strains. Combination therapy offers potential benefits in CRAB and moderate-severity cases but is not universally superior to monotherapy. Treatment outcomes are influenced by patient-specific factors such as age, infection type, and disease severity.

Abstract

Introduction: Tinea unguium is a nail infection caused by dermatophytes, characterized by nail discoloration, thickening, and brittleness. Farmers, often exposed to prolonged wet conditions, are at higher risk of this infection. The use of appropriate footwear is recommended to mitigate this risk. However, inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) usage makes farmers more susceptible to Tinea unguium. Research on Tinea unguium among farmers in Lojejer Village is limited, with differing result on the link between wearing footwear as PPE and the occurance of Tinea unguium. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the use of footwear as PPE and the incidence of Tinea unguium among farmers in Lojejer Village. Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional observational design. It involved 98 respondents determined using Slovin’s formula. Data were collected through interviews and nail samples, which were subjected to fungal culture on sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA) medium and microscopic examination with lactophenol cotton blue staining. Fisher’s Exact tests were used for analysis. Results: Results revealed that seven farmers (7.14%) were affected by Tinea unguium, predominantly males (85.8%) aged 45–64 years (57.1%). Trichophyton rubrum was identified as the primary dermatophyte, with Aspergillus sp. as a contaminant. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between footwear usage, personal hygiene, or footwear hygiene and Tinea unguium (p-values > 0.05). Conclusion: The study found no significant association between footwear use, hpersonal hygiene, and footwear hygiene with Tinea unguium incidence among farmers in Lojejer Village

Abstract

Conflicts over public information disputes have increased in the past three years. This study aims to analyze the process of information flow that occurs in information dispute conflicts and to analyze solutions to prevent and handle information dispute conflict problems. This study intends to analyze conflict resolution resolution of public information disputes in Indonesia using communication theory and conflict resolution theory in depth. The methodology in this research is qualitative method using library research method. Based on the results of the research analysis, it was concluded that the process of information flow that occurs in conflicts over public information disputes is hampered due to dissatisfaction from public information applicants with requests for information submitted from public bodies, because there are differences in perception. The solution to conflict prevention is increased awareness of the parties involved regarding rights and obligations related to public information, training and education on public information disclosure, formulation of clear policies on related Standard Operating Procedures and increased internal mediation between public bodies and information applicants. In addition, solutions for handling information dispute conflicts, in addition to mediation and adjudication in accordance with regulations, can be improved through increasing understanding of regulations regarding Public Information Disclosure and increasing the institutional capacity of the Information Commission.

Abstract

Propaganda is a powerful tool for shaping public perception, especially in the context of fascism. This study analyzes the application of Freudian theory to fascist propaganda in Indonesia, particularly during the New Order era under Soeharto’s regime. Fascism in Indonesia began in 1933 with the rise of organizations like the Nederlandsche Indische Fascisten Organisatie (NIFO) and the Indonesian Fascist Party (PFI). During the New Order, propaganda was used to manipulate public opinion, suppress opposition, and maintain power. This research employs a qualitative literature review method, analyzing historical records, media sources, and academic writings. The study specifically examines how Freudian concepts, such as unconscious fears and mass psychology, were used to influence public perceptions, particularly in relation to the G30S/PKI case. The findings reveal that the regime exploited public fears of communism, using propaganda to justify repression and control. This research highlights the importance of understanding the psychological underpinnings of propaganda and suggests that further studies could explore the broader implications of these techniques in different political contexts.

Abstract

Shallot (Allium cepa L.) contains bioactive compounds with antioxidant effects. In addition to the tuber, the shallot’s peel is a rich source of flavonoids with demonstrated capacity to mitigate oxidative stress. Prior studies have evaluated the antioxidant efficacy of shallot peel in ameliorating organ damage and have established its maximum effective dose. The subsequent step required for its potential therapeutic application is toxicity test. This study aimed to analyze the liver histopathological changes in the acute toxicity test of shallot peel extract (SPE) in rats based on OECD TG 420. This research was an experimental with a post-test-only control group design. Five female rats were used as the control group administered dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), while 5 female rats were used in the treatment group administered SPE at 5,000 mg/kg body weight (BW) (one of them had been used for a preliminary test with the same dosage). On day 15, a necropsy was conducted, followed by histopathological observation of the hematoxylin-eosin (HE)-stained liver histopathological slide. The damage to hepatocytes was evaluated using Manja Roenigk criteria. The average histopathological score per liver cell of the control group was 1.226 ± 0.0065 and the treatment group was 1.235±0.0079. The Mann-Whitney test showed that the liver histopathological score of the treatment group was not different from that of the control group (p>0.05). It can be concluded that SPE 5,000 mg/kg does not show acute toxic effects in rats, with LD₅₀ estimated at >5,000 mg/kg according to OECD standards.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. More than 80% of TB cases attack the pulmonary organs and the rest are extra-pulmonary TB. Indonesia is one of the countries with the high number of tuberculosis cases besides India, China, the Philippines, and Pakistan. Aside from being a country with a high TB incidence, Indonesia is also an endemic country for helminth infections, especially Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH). The high prevalence of STH infections in Indonesia allows STH coinfection in TB patients to cause decreasing immunity, thus affecting the outcome of TB infection. STH infection is very closely related to environmental sanitation. The purpose of this study was to identify and determine the association of environmental sanitation risk factors to the coinfection of Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) in tuberculosis patients in Panti District, Jember Regency. This type of research was observational research with cross-sectional analytic design. Of the 49 TB patients who were undergoing treatment at the Panti Health Center, 32 people were willing to be respondents, but only 25 people collected stool samples. Fisher's test results showed that the incidence of intestinal co-infection in TB patients in Panti District, Jember Regency was 12% and was caused by two STH species, namely A. lumbricoides and Hookworm. Environmental sanitation in TB patients was mostly good, e.g 54.5% of respondents had good environmental sanitation, but there was no significant association between environmental sanitation and the incidence of intestinal co-infection in TB patients in Panti District, Jember Regency (p> 0.05).
