Abstract

The coefficient of power Savonius wind turbine improved in experimental studies that added overlap and variation in the distance of the disruptive cylinder in front of the returning blade. However, further research needs to be done to validate the experimental results. This research is in the form of a numerical study using the 3-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. In this simulation, the solver chosen is pressure based with a transient time mode. In addition, the model used is the k-epsilon realizable model. Simulations were carried out to determine the value of the coefficient of power the turbine. The turbine has the same diameter and height of 0.4 meters with the addition of overlap. The variation in the distance of the disruptive cylinder used is S/d = 1.4; S/d = 1.7; S/d = 2 and S/d = 2.3. The final result shows that the performance of the turbine can reach the highest increase of 3.51% compared with overlapped Savonius wind turbine without cylinder at a distance of S/d = 1.7. The coefficient of power (Cp) value is 0.324 at Tip Speed Ratio 1.

Abstract

In previous studies, a Multifunction Freezer machine was made, which is a tool similar to a refrigerator in general, namely to cool food ingredients, but the advantages of this Multifunction Freezer Machine are made so that it can have 2 uses, namely, to cool and dry food ingredients such as fish etc. The weakness of the drying system in the previous multifunctional freezer machine was in the wrong placement of the fan and condenser which resulted in a less than optimal reduction of the water content in the ingredients (fish) for processing salted fish. The method used is to redesign or redesign the placement of the fan and condenser so that the drying system can work optimally and can reduce the water content of the ingredients (fish) as needed for salted fish processing. This research is to redesign the Multifunctional Freezer machine which was previously made by placing the fan and condenser on the left side of the drying chamber and by adding a glass heater after the condenser and the results obtained are room temperature 48.7 oC and fish temperature 34.2 oC, moisture content 6.583%, drying rate 0.378 gram/minute and performance factor 3.74 within 180 minutes or 3 working hours of a Multifunctional Freezer Machine.

Abstract

Previous research was the beginning of the manufacture a multifunctional freezer, a machinethat has two functions for cooling and drying and is aimed at preserving fish both dried and cooled. The evaporator on the machine is used for cooling the fish in the refrigerator. The cooling process hasa weakness in the cooling system where the temperature in the chamber can’t reach a temperaturebelow 0°C when the load is given above 0,5kg, and its cooling rate is less efficient so that the processof temperature reduction in a chamber given the load variation has a long enough time, so it can beconcluded that the performance of the chiller is less optimal. In this final project, a cooling systemredesign is carried out on a multifunctional freezer machine, as well as a capillary tube with a diameterof 0,31 inches and a length of 1,5 meters. Test results were obtained with weight variations of 0,5kg,2kg, and 3kg. Average cooling speed of 0,255 kJ/s, chill room temperature of 2,7°C to -6°C, and thebest coefficient of performance are obtained from the test results at a weight of 3kg with a COP valueof 6,609 at 30 minutes and 5,133 at a test time of 60 minutes or 1 hour of operation of the multifunctionfreezer.

Abstract

Based on previous research, the performance of Savonius Overlap wind turbine withadditional cylinders had increased but it could still be improved to reach the highest performance.Based on this condition, this experiment was carried out by using a Savonius wind turbine bychanging blade with Myring n = 1 and adding an Overlap Ratio of 0.3 to the turbine blade. Itsdiameter and height are 40 cm. The stagger cylinder is placed with a distance ratio of S/d 1.7 anduses various diameter ratio 0.4 0.5 0.6 and 0.7. The wind speed is arranged by varying the speedof 5 , 6 and 7 m/s. This experiment was conducted to determine effect of additional circularcylinder to Coefficient Power (Cp) and Coefficient Torque (Ct). The final result shows that thebest performance increase occurs in the variation of interfering cylinder diameter ratio ds/D = 0.4with a wind speed of 6 m/s. The increase in the Coefficient Torque (Ct) is 9.58% and theCoefficient Power (Cp) is 21.56% for the Savonius Myring wind turbine n = 1 Overlap withoutinterfering cylinders.

Abstract

Shipyards have facilities that have the potential to cause fires because there is work that generatesheat and contains flammable materials. The existing hydrant system at the shipyard is still simple and does notcover the entire area. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a hydrant system that can cover all areas in accordancewith NFPA and SNI standards. Planning begins with determining the number and placement of hydrant pillars, pipe routing, head loss calculations, and pump selection. The pipeline requires 7.776 m of 8-inch pipe, and 6-inch pipe requires 1915.477 m of pipe. The total head losses obtained from the calculation at the farthesthydrant pillar is 217.426 m. The selected pump is a Wilo 150 GF with a pump head of 240 m and a capacity of1250 US GPM.
