Abstract

Anemia is a common problem that often occurs in developing countries including Indonesia, most anemia is caused by hemoglobin levels less than 11 g/dl. Hemoglobin is a complex protein that binds iron (Fe) and is present in erythrocytes. Low hemoglobin levels are caused by iron deficiency, folic acid deficiency and chronic disease. The increase in hemoglobin levels with iron and vitamin C can be higher than with iron alone. Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has long been consumed by the public as a medicine to increase blood. This fruit contains organic acids, protein, minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron as well as vitamin C. This study aims to determine the effectivity of giving red dragon fruit juice (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on hemoglobin levels in medical personnel at Amalia Medika Hospital Pangkalan Kerinci. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design, in which hemoglobin levels were measured before giving red dragon fruit juice and after the respondent was given red dragon fruit juice 4 times in 30 days. The results showed that there was a significant difference between hemoglobin levels before and after administration of red dragon fruit juice with p=0.000 (α=0.05) in the paired sample t test. This means that there is an effect of giving dragon fruit juice on the hemoglobin level of medical staff at Amalia Medika Hospital in Pangkalan Kerinci, namely an increase in hemoglobin levels after being given dragon fruit juice of 2.61 g/dL to the respondent.

Abstract

Nosocomial infection is a systemic or local condition caused by a reaction to an infectious agent such as bacteria that occurs more than 48 hours after the patient is admitted to the hospital. One of the nosocomial infections is post-surgery wound infection which is a common problem that causes morbidity and mortality in hospitals. The challenge for doctors who treat infected patients is the accuracy of antibiotic therapy, which slows down the healing process of infection in postoperative wounds. This study aims to determine the sensitivity of antibiotics to bacteria that cause infections in post-surgery patient wounds which can be recommended as definitive therapy. This study is a retrospective cohort conducted descriptively during October 2020 with a total of 75 samples. The results of the study showed that antibiotic sensitivity to gram-negative bacteria was amikacin (91%), meropenem (81%), gentamycin (56%), ciprofloxacin (42%), cefepime (39%), cefoperazone sulbactam (39%), cotrimoxazole (28%), ceftazidime 25%, aztreonam (18%), ceftriaxone (14%), ampicillin-sulbactam (11%) and ampicillin (2%). Meanwhile, sensitivity to gram-positive bacteria is vancomycin (83%), linezolid (61%), gentamycin (61%), clindamycin (39%), erythomycin (39%), levofloxacin (33%), ciprofloxacin (28%), cotrimoxazole (22%) and ampicillin, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone (17%), respectively. Antibiotics with a sensitivity of >80% that can be recommended as definitive therapy for post-operative wound infections are amikacin (91%) and meropenem (81%) for gram-negative bacteria and vancomycin (83%) for gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract

Penerapan bioetika dalam kultur jaringan tanaman anggrek memainkan peran penting dalam mengatasi masalah kontaminasi mikroorganisme. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan aspek bioetika dalam prosedur kultur jaringan dapat membantu mengurangi atau mengatasi permasalahan kontaminasi mikroorganisme. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan data penelitian diperoleh dari kegiatan wawancara semi-struktur serta pembagian angket kuesioner. Analisis data pada penelitian ini adalah analisis kualitatif yaitu menganalisis data primer dan juga data sekunder. Data primer merupakan data yang diperoleh dari hasil observasi lapangan peneliti dari narasumber serta hasil kuesioner sedangkan data sekunder adalah data yang diperoleh dari buku atau pustaka serta jurnal penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 10 responden yang diberi kuesioner mendapatkan hasil bahwa mereka memiliki pengetahuan yang baik mengenai bioetika kultur jaringan anggrek Dendrobium sp. dan prosedur terkait sterilisasi. Tetapi, masih terdapat kekurangan dalam hal keterbatasan fasilitas yang menunjang prosedur sterilisasi dan juga kurangnya pelatihan untuk staf atau pegawai mengenai protokol khusus pencegahan terjadinya kontaminasi pada kultur jaringan anggrek Dendrobium sp. Hal ini menunjukkan perlunya peningkatan pelatihan dan implementasi standar bioetika di laboratorium kultur jaringan.

Abstract

The food industry with the fastest rate of growth in more than 50 years is the fisheries sector. The sector of aquaculture and capture has grown to be very promising. In order to support the success of this business, the aquaculture industry in freshwater and marine environments is currently progressing. In the larval stage, choosing fish feed that is of high quality is crucial. The primary food source for fish larvae to support the growth and development of farmed fish is natural feed with a high protein content. Numerous varieties of farmed fish and ornamental fish have been fed Tubifex tubifex, a natural silkworm food. Protein and fat content in this polichaeta class worms are respectively 66% and 12%. When farmed fish are growing and developing, the high protein content of these worms may serve as their primary source of protein. Several initiatives are currently being made to enhance worm protein quality by consuming more food that contains macro- and micronutrients. Agricultural waste that has fermented or decomposed, which is typically regarded as waste, has nutritional value that can be combined with mud or sand to keep worms for a while. The nurture of fish larvae or fry may one day be possible using silkworms.

Abstract

Pakan utama ternak sapi adalah rumput segar untuk menunjang produksi disamping pakan penguat (konsentrat). Sapi potong diberi pakan rumput lapang saja tidak memenuhi kecukupan nutrien, untuk itu pada peternak yang memiliki skala usaha ternak banyak, untuk mencukupi kebutuhan pakan hijauan. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental selama 14 hari dengan tanggal pembuatan di Jl. Pendidikan, Bandar Setia, Medan Tembung, Medan, Sumatera Utara. penambahan EM4 dalam fermentasi pakan ternak mempengaruhi karakteristik fisik pakan seperti warna, jumlah jamur, dan tekstur. Penggunaan dosis yang berbeda dari EM4 juga memberikan hasil yang berbeda dalam fermentasi, menunjukkan bahwa dosis EM4 memainkan peran penting dalam mengubah karakteristik pakan yang dihasilkan.

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance has the greatest impact on human health, at least 2 million people are infected by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The use of natural medicines is increasingly in demand by the public, one of which is often used to treat diseases is trigona honey. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of Trigona honey against Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria. The test bacteria used were Multidrug Resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria obtained from the collection of the Microbiology Laboratory of the University of North Sumatera Hospital. Antimicrobial activity testing was carried out using the hole / well diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) media with chloramphenicol as a positive control, acetone as a negative control and trigona honey with a concentration of 500 ppm. Antibacterial activity was seen by measuring the inhibition zone formed. The results showed that Trigona honey was able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria with inhibition zone activity included in the weak category, while the positive control showed antibacterial activity in the strong category.

Abstract

Sansivieria dalam setiap spesies memiliki bentuk daun, warna daun, dan motif bercak daun yang beragam. Tanaman ini memiliki variasi yang cukup banyak, oleh sebab itu spesies dari tanaman ini memiliki jenis yang sangat beragam. Mutasi tanaman dan persilangan jenis tanaman adalah faktor terdapatnya berbagai keanekaragam lidah mertua. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi keanekaragaman lidah mertua/sansevieria berdasarkan karakter morfloginya dan hubungan kekerabatan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan mengkaraterisasi morfologi daun. Hasil karakterisasi dianalisis menggunakan NT-EDIT dan NT-SYS untuk menghasilkan dendogram. Berdasarkan hasil observasi yang diperolah, 8 jenis sansevieria yang ditemukan menunjukkan koefisien kemiripan genetik sebesar 50% (0,50) hingga 82% (0,82) dengan jarak genetik sebesar 55% hingga 82%. Terbagi menjadi dua kluster utama dan dua jenis ini menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat nyata disbanding jenis lainnya.

Abstract

Water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) is a nutritious vegetable and has great potential in hydroponic cultivation. However, the creation of appropriate and ethical nutrients for the growth of this plant is still a challenge. This study aims to analyze the application of ethics in the creation and optimal concentration of nutrients A and B needed by water spinach plants. The method used is an experimental approach at the Horticultural Seed Development Unit, Medan, during the period January to March 2025. Data collected include plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight of plants. The results of the study indicate that the right concentration of nutrients can increase the growth of water spinach plants and ensure the safety of consumption. This study provides insight for farmers and hydroponic practitioners in improving the quality of water spinach cultivation.

Abstract

Abstract Food safety is an important aspect in public health, especially in preventing foodborne diseases. This study aims to analyze pathogenis microbial contamination in several food samples such Dried Anchovy, Dried Shrimp dan Brownies. The test methods used include otal plate count (measuring the total number of microbes in the sample), Most Probable Number (MPN) to detect Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus test and Salmonella test. The results showed that all food samples tested were still within the safe limits set by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) so they were suitable for consumption. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of microbiological monitoring and testing in ensuring food safety to prevent health risks due to pathogenic microbial contamination. Abstrak Kemanan pangan merupakan aspek penting dalam kesehatan masyarakat terutama dalam mencegah penyakit akibat pangan (Foodborne Diseases). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis cemaran mikroba patogen pada beberapa sampel pangan seperti Dried Anchovy, Dried Shrimp dan Brownies. Metode pengujian yang digunakan meliputi angka lempeng total (mengukur jumlah keseluruhan mikroba dalam sampel), Most Probable Number (MPN) untuk mendeteksi Escherichia coli, uji Staphylococcus aureus dan uji Salmonella. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa seluruh sampel pangan yang diuji masih berada dalam batas aman yang ditetapna oleh Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) dan Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) sehingga layak untuk dikonsumsi.
