Abstract

Karbon monoksida yang terkandung dalam rokok memiliki afinitas yang besar terhadap hemoglobin memudahkan kedua senyawa tersebut untuk saling berikatan, sehingga mengurangi kapasitas hemoglobin dalam pengangkutan oksigen. Hal ini menimbulkan terjadinya hipoksia jaringan, sehingga tubuh berusaha untuk meningkatkan kadar hemoglobin sebagai kompensasinya. Peningkatan ini dipengaruhi oleh lamanya merokok dan jumlah rokok yang dihisap perhari. Adapun Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran kadar hemoglobin perokok elektrik pegawai Rumah Sakit Martha Friska Multatuli. Jenis penelitian deskriptif analitik dengan teknik total sampling. Sampel yang diambil pada perokok elektrik pegawai Rumah Sakit Martha Friska Multatuli dengan besar sampel 25 orang. Hasil penelitian diperoleh 23 orang (92.0%) kadar hemoglobin normal dan nilai hemoglobin tinggi sebanyak 2 orang (8.0%). Rerata di dapatkan kadar hemoglobin yaitu (15.4 g/dL) dengan kadar hemoglobin paling tinggi yaitu (18.7 g/dL) dan nilai terendah yaitu (12.2 g/dL). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perokok elektrik pegawai Rumah Sakit Martha Friska Multatuli memiliki kadar hemoglobin normal.

Abstract

Abstract Contamination of microorganisms, especially fungi and bacteria, is a major challenge in the success of tissue culture, which can come from unsterilized explants, tools, or work environment. The application of bioethical principles, such as strict sterilization and sustainable practices, is expected to reduce the risk of contamination. This study aims to analyze the application of bioethics in tissue culture and identify factors causing contamination in tissue culture laboratories in Medan City. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through literature study, interviews, and questionnaires to 14 respondents. The results showed that most respondents understood the principles of bioethics and had implemented sterilization procedures well. However, guidance on contamination prevention was lacking, and the effectiveness of bioethics implementation in reducing contamination varied. Periodic evaluation of the success of tissue culture has been conducted, but limited facilities and external factors are still an obstacle. The conclusions of this study emphasize the importance of improved bioethics training, provision of adequate facilities, as well as the use of new technologies and inter-institutional collaboration to reduce the risk of microorganism contamination in tissue culture. Keyword: Tissue culture, microorganism contamination, bioethics Abstrak Kontaminasi mikroorganisme terutama jamur dan bakteri menjadi tantangan utama dalam keberhasilan kultur jaringan yang dapat berasal dari eksplan, alat, atau lingkungan kerja yang tidak steril. Penerapan prinsip bioetika, seperti sterilisasi ketat dan praktik berkelanjutan, diharapkan dapat mengurangi risiko kontaminasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis penerapan bioetika dalam kultur jaringan dan mengidentifikasi faktor penyebab kontaminasi di laboratorium kultur jaringan di Kota Medan. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui studi pustaka, wawancara, dan kuesioner terhadap 14 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memahami prinsip bioetika dan telah menerapkan prosedur sterilisasi dengan baik. Namun, panduan pencegahan kontaminasi masih kurang, dan efektivitas penerapan bioetika dalam mengurangi kontaminasi bervariasi. Evaluasi berkala terhadap keberhasilan kultur jaringan telah dilakukan, tetapi keterbatasan fasilitas dan faktor eksternal masih menjadi kendala. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya peningkatan pelatihan bioetika, penyediaan fasilitas yang memadai, serta penggunaan teknologi baru dan kolaborasi antar lembaga untuk mengurangi risiko kontaminasi mikroorganisme dalam kultur jaringan. Abstract

Traditional medicinal plants have long been used and trusted by the community to treat various diseases. The senggani plant is useful for reducing fever (antispiretic), pain reliever (analgesic), urine laxative (diuretic), treating vaginal discharge (leukorrhea), and as a medicine for various types of wounds. This research was conducted using extracts of Melastoma malabatricum (L.) leaves extracted using methanol as a solvent. GC-MS analysis of secondary metabolites of senggani leaves (Melastoma malabatrichum L.) was carried out as a first step to determine the content of active secondary metabolite compounds contained in senggani leaves.The results of this study show that 8 peaks were observed during maximum run time of 40 min. The results revealed that, compounds such as 3-Hexadecyloxycarbonyl-5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-methylimidazolium, Melezitose, Thiosulfuric acid, Neophytadiene, 9-Icosyne, Phytol, Hexadecanoic acid dan 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z) were present in the methanolic extract of Melastoma malabatrichum (L.) which can mostly contribute to several therapeutic activities such as antimicrobial.

Abstract

Pertanian modern masih sangat bergantung pada penggunaan pestisida kimia untuk mengendalikan Organisme Pengganggu Tanaman (OPT). Meskipun efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil panen, penggunaan pestisida kimia yang tidak bijaksana menimbulkan dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan manusia, seperti pencemaran tanah dan air, serta risiko gangguan kesehatan pada petani dan konsumen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kelayakan etis penggunaan pestisida kimia di UPT Pengembangan Benih Hortikultura serta mengeksplorasi alternatif pengendalian hama yang lebih ramah lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan eksperimen semu terhadap pestisida alami berbahan kulit bawang merah dan efektivitas eco enzyme dalam membersihkan residu pestisida. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pestisida alami mampu menurunkan populasi hama hingga 70% dalam tujuh hari tanpa mencemari lingkungan atau menimbulkan resistensi. Dari perspektif bioetika, penggunaan pestisida alami lebih selaras dengan prinsip non-maleficence, beneficence, dan etika keberlanjutan. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan pestisida alami dapat menjadi solusi etis dan berkelanjutan bagi sektor pertanian.

Abstract

Community service activities for lecturers are an effort to carry out one of the tri dharma tasks of higher education. This service activity aims to educate the public about the importance of protecting the environment around river basins by planting productive trees. In addition, the community can also understand the importance of reforestation to restore natural conditions, especially river banks which will be damaged due to natural and human factors. The implementation of this community service activity was carried out by providing an open green space for the elderly and the local community on May 28 2022 in the riverbank area of ​​Jl. Letjen Jamin Ginting Km 45 Gelora Kasih GBKP 100 Year Jubilee Park Complex, Suka Makmur Village, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province. This Community Service is very beneficial for the elderly who are in the area where the tree is planted. This greening culture must be familiarized from an early age through the practice of planting trees. By frequently planting trees, it is hoped that it can increase people's awareness and love for preserving and protecting the environment, especially watersheds. With this Community Service activity, it is hoped that it will help the community to realize the importance of protecting the environment. The expected output targets from this activity are, First, provide an open green space for the elderly and the local community. Second, growing the local community's economy from the production of matoa and simpur tree seeds. Third, Improving the welfare of the surrounding community and the elderly.

Abstract

Anemia is a common problem that often occurs in developing countries including Indonesia, most anemia is caused by hemoglobin levels less than 11 g/dl. Hemoglobin is a complex protein that binds iron (Fe) and is present in erythrocytes. Low hemoglobin levels are caused by iron deficiency, folic acid deficiency and chronic disease. The increase in hemoglobin levels with iron and vitamin C can be higher than with iron alone. Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has long been consumed by the public as a medicine to increase blood. This fruit contains organic acids, protein, minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron as well as vitamin C. This study aims to determine the effectivity of giving red dragon fruit juice (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on hemoglobin levels in medical personnel at Amalia Medika Hospital Pangkalan Kerinci. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design, in which hemoglobin levels were measured before giving red dragon fruit juice and after the respondent was given red dragon fruit juice 4 times in 30 days. The results showed that there was a significant difference between hemoglobin levels before and after administration of red dragon fruit juice with p=0.000 (α=0.05) in the paired sample t test. This means that there is an effect of giving dragon fruit juice on the hemoglobin level of medical staff at Amalia Medika Hospital in Pangkalan Kerinci, namely an increase in hemoglobin levels after being given dragon fruit juice of 2.61 g/dL to the respondent.

Abstract

Nosocomial infection is a systemic or local condition caused by a reaction to an infectious agent such as bacteria that occurs more than 48 hours after the patient is admitted to the hospital. One of the nosocomial infections is post-surgery wound infection which is a common problem that causes morbidity and mortality in hospitals. The challenge for doctors who treat infected patients is the accuracy of antibiotic therapy, which slows down the healing process of infection in postoperative wounds. This study aims to determine the sensitivity of antibiotics to bacteria that cause infections in post-surgery patient wounds which can be recommended as definitive therapy. This study is a retrospective cohort conducted descriptively during October 2020 with a total of 75 samples. The results of the study showed that antibiotic sensitivity to gram-negative bacteria was amikacin (91%), meropenem (81%), gentamycin (56%), ciprofloxacin (42%), cefepime (39%), cefoperazone sulbactam (39%), cotrimoxazole (28%), ceftazidime 25%, aztreonam (18%), ceftriaxone (14%), ampicillin-sulbactam (11%) and ampicillin (2%). Meanwhile, sensitivity to gram-positive bacteria is vancomycin (83%), linezolid (61%), gentamycin (61%), clindamycin (39%), erythomycin (39%), levofloxacin (33%), ciprofloxacin (28%), cotrimoxazole (22%) and ampicillin, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone (17%), respectively. Antibiotics with a sensitivity of >80% that can be recommended as definitive therapy for post-operative wound infections are amikacin (91%) and meropenem (81%) for gram-negative bacteria and vancomycin (83%) for gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract

Penerapan bioetika dalam kultur jaringan tanaman anggrek memainkan peran penting dalam mengatasi masalah kontaminasi mikroorganisme. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan aspek bioetika dalam prosedur kultur jaringan dapat membantu mengurangi atau mengatasi permasalahan kontaminasi mikroorganisme. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan data penelitian diperoleh dari kegiatan wawancara semi-struktur serta pembagian angket kuesioner. Analisis data pada penelitian ini adalah analisis kualitatif yaitu menganalisis data primer dan juga data sekunder. Data primer merupakan data yang diperoleh dari hasil observasi lapangan peneliti dari narasumber serta hasil kuesioner sedangkan data sekunder adalah data yang diperoleh dari buku atau pustaka serta jurnal penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 10 responden yang diberi kuesioner mendapatkan hasil bahwa mereka memiliki pengetahuan yang baik mengenai bioetika kultur jaringan anggrek Dendrobium sp. dan prosedur terkait sterilisasi. Tetapi, masih terdapat kekurangan dalam hal keterbatasan fasilitas yang menunjang prosedur sterilisasi dan juga kurangnya pelatihan untuk staf atau pegawai mengenai protokol khusus pencegahan terjadinya kontaminasi pada kultur jaringan anggrek Dendrobium sp. Hal ini menunjukkan perlunya peningkatan pelatihan dan implementasi standar bioetika di laboratorium kultur jaringan.

Abstract

Bullying is a serious problem in the world of education that hurts the psychological, social, and academic development of students. Prevention efforts through educational socialization are important in fostering mutual awareness to create a safe and comfortable learning environment. This educational socialization aims to evaluate the effectiveness of socialization Activities to promote a non-violent school environment: Be Real Friends and Stop Bullying by involving 50 participants, consisting of teachers, lecturers, students, and students in North Sumatra Province. The method used was quantitative descriptive with instruments in the form of a questionnaire on the benefits of socialization and a test of participants' material comprehension (post-test). The results showed that all participants responded positively to the socialization activities, with 58.3% strongly agreeing and 41.7% agreeing on its benefits. Additionally, the post-test results showed an enhancement in material comprehension, where 63.6% of participants were categorized as excellent, 32.7% as good, and only 3.6% as fair. Thus, the socialization of bullying prevention education has proven to be effective in strengthening participants' awareness and understanding of the impact and strategies of bullying prevention. This program could serve as a preventive intervention model in schools and universities and was recommended for continuous implementation to strengthen an educational culture free from bullying.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of senduduk leaves (Melastoma malabathricum Lour.) in inhibiting bacterial growth in the nasal passages. Senduduk plants contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that have the potential as natural antibacterials. The study was conducted experimentally in vitro at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, State University of Medan in September 2025 using the disc diffusion method. Senduduk leaf extraction was carried out by maceration using 96% ethanol. The positive control used was the antibiotic ciprofloxacin HCl, while the negative control used DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide). The growth medium used was Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA), and antibacterial activity was measured based on the diameter of the inhibition zone around the test disc. The results showed that senduduk leaf extract produced an average inhibition zone of 9.61 mm, while ciprofloxacin HCl produced an inhibition zone of around 28.45 mm, and DMSO showed no inhibition zone. This study is the basis for the development of senduduk leaves as a potential natural antibacterial ingredient in the pharmaceutical and public health fields.
