Abstract

The depletion of fossil energy reserves, especially oil and natural gas, has driven innovations in energy-efficient vehicles, including through the Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE). In developing prototype cars for this competition, driver ergonomics is often overlooked. This study aims to analyze musculoskeletal complaints experienced by prototype car drivers from the Faculty of Engineering at UNP. The main instrument used was the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, administered to three drivers after they performed a 20-minute static driving simulation. The collected data were analyzed and categorized based on complaint levels. The results showed that the most frequent complaints occurred in the lower back (score 12), followed by the lower neck, buttocks, and hips (score 11). The average overall score was 71.67, indicating a high-risk category. The highest individual score was 89 (Driver 3), and the lowest was 62 (Driver 1). These complaints were caused by the absence of an ergonomic driver seat in the prototype car. The study concluded that the current cockpit design is not ergonomically adequate, posing a risk of injury. Therefore, it is recommended that the design team immediately create a more upright driver seat with thigh support to enhance comfort and reduce musculoskeletal complaints.

Abstract

The ergonomic design of the cockpit is crucial for improving driver comfort and safety, particularly in prototype vehicles for energy efficiency competitions. This study evaluates the driver’s body posture using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) technique to propose design improvements that support better posture and reduce physical strain. The research methodology includes analyzing musculoskeletal risk levels through RULA, supported by the Human Activity Analysis tool in CATIA. The evaluation was conducted on the FT UNP prototype car in the Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi (KMHE), revealing a RULA score of 6, indicating a high risk of musculoskeletal issues. The findings suggest the need for redesigning the cockpit to enhance posture, including adjustments to the seat tilt, steering wheel position, and pedals. These ergonomic improvements are expected to reduce driver fatigue, enhance performance, and minimize injury risks.

Abstract

This research investigates the underlying factors that shape the interest of students from the 2024 cohort in enrolling in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Education Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Padang. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative methodology, data were gathered through a structured, closed-ended questionnaire administered to the entire cohort, which consisted of 89 students. The analysis reveals that the overall level of student interest is categorized as high, with a notable percentage of 55%. Several key variables were identified as influential: (1) self-awareness factors encompassing physical capabilities, intellectual aptitude, intrinsic motivation, and innate talent were rated in the very high category at 56%; (2) familial influences such as the provision of information, emotional support, and parenting styles also ranked very high at 46%; (3) school-related elements including the accessibility of school information systems, teacher roles, peer dynamics, and hands on learning experiences were classified in the high category with 44%; and (4) social media engagement specifically the frequency of use and the quality of educational content was likewise in the high category, scoring 48%. These findings underscore the multifaceted nature of student decision-making, with self-awareness emerging as the most prominent determinant in shaping academic program choices. The study highlights the need for educational institutions to consider these interrelated dimensions when developing recruitment strategies and academic guidance frameworks.

Abstract

The Vocational Pedagogy course is an important factor in supporting students' teaching readiness. Observation shows that PLK students have a gap in teaching readiness even though they have taken Vocational Pedagogy courses. This study describes the teaching readiness of students in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Padang State University and analyzes the effect of the course on teaching readiness. The study employed a causal quantitative approach, surveying 92 students from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts, selected via Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive analysis and simple linear regression. The results showed that students' mastery of the Vocational Pedagogy course was high, with an average score of 4.5. Students' teaching readiness was also in the "ready" category, with an average score of 4.5. Hypothesis testing results show that vocational pedagogy courses positively and significantly impact student teaching readiness. The coefficient of determination (R-square) is 0.545, meaning 54.5% of teaching readiness variables are influenced by vocational pedagogy courses, while other factors influence the rest. This study concludes that Vocational Pedagogy courses significantly and positively impact teaching readiness among students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at FT-UNP. Micro teaching is a crucial factor in improving teaching readiness in this course.

Abstract

Drum brakes are one of the crucial components in motor vehicle braking systems, particularly in motorcycles, due to their advantages in production cost and resistance to environmental contamination. However, this type of brake has limitations in dissipating heat during braking, which can lead to temperature accumulation, thermal deformation, and reduced braking efficiency. This study aims to analyze the thermo-mechanical performance of drum brakes with various cooling groove designs (solid, straight-grooved, and slant-grooved) using a numerical method based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in ANSYS Workbench. The analysis was conducted in a transient manner, both thermally and structurally, to evaluate temperature distribution and total deformation for each design. The results show that the slant-grooved drum brake design yields the lowest temperature distribution and total deformation values, especially at high braking speeds, with a temperature distribution of 56.899 °C and total deformation of 17.67 × 10⁻³ mm. These findings indicate that groove design significantly affects the heat dissipation and structural deformation performance of the brake system. The study concludes that the slant-grooved design is superior in reducing heat and deformation, thereby offering the potential to improve braking safety and efficiency.

Abstract

The dwindling availability of fossil-based energy sources has spurred breakthroughs in the evolution of eco-conscious transportation, one of which is manifested in the Indonesian Electric Car Competition (Kompetisi Mobil Listrik Indonesia – KMLI). In this arena, collegiate teams engineer lightweight, single-occupant electric prototype vehicles emphasizing energy thrift. Nonetheless, spatial constraints and performance optimization frequently take precedence over ergonomic design, heightening the likelihood of musculoskeletal strain. This investigation seeks to examine bodily discomforts related to the musculoskeletal system as encountered by the operator of a prototype electric vehicle, employing the Nordic Body Map (NBM) assessment tool. The inquiry adopted a descriptive format via a focused case analysis involving the primary driver from the Megathrust Eco Team representing Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) in the 2024 KMLI. Post-operation, the participant filled out the NBM form to denote discomfort regions, referencing a Likert-type scale from 1 (no pain) to 4 (extreme pain). The outcomes identified the cervical region, shoulders, dorsum, and lumbar zone as areas with elevated distress, classified under Pain and Intense Pain levels, thus revealing substantial ergonomic concerns. From these insights, it is inferred that the seating layout and cockpit geometry must be reconsidered and fine-tuned according to the driver’s anthropometric dimensions to alleviate physical complaints and boost vehicular comfort. The study aspires to aid in fostering electric vehicles that are more attuned to human-centered design, balancing well-being and operational safety.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian dengan judul "Mindset Juara: Strategi Psikologis untuk Meningkatkan Performa Siswa dalam Olahraga di Kepulauan Mentawai" bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan teknik psikologis yang dapat meningkatkan performa siswa di SMA N 2 Sipora. Fokus utama dari pengabdian ini adalah pengembangan mentalitas positif, dengan pendekatan teori dan praktik langsung. Siswa diajarkan untuk mengembangkan mindset juara, yang berfokus pada proses, bukan hanya hasil akhir. Teknik manajemen emosi, seperti latihan pernapasan dalam dan visualisasi, diterapkan untuk membantu siswa tetap tenang di bawah tekanan. Selain itu, peningkatan fokus dilakukan melalui latihan konsentrasi dalam skenario kompetisi. Penguatan kerjasama tim juga menjadi bagian penting dari pelatihan ini, di mana siswa dilibatkan dalam simulasi pertandingan untuk menerapkan strategi psikologis yang telah diajarkan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan adanya peningkatan mentalitas positif, kepercayaan diri, dan kemampuan mengelola emosi. Selain itu, kemampuan kerjasama dan kepemimpinan siswa juga meningkat. Pengabdian ini menunjukkan pentingnya penerapan strategi psikologis dalam pengembangan karakter siswa, yang tidak hanya bermanfaat dalam olahraga, tetapi juga dalam kehidupan sosial dan situasi kompetitif lainnya di masa depan.

Abstract

The development of lightweight electric cars for urban mobility requires efficient aerodynamic design without sacrificing space efficiency. This study presents a novel method by investigating the combination of a two-seater city car's compact dimensions and square back shape, which has not been extensively researched for low- to medium-velocity vehicles. This study's objective is to assess the design's aerodynamic performance using numerical simulations using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach. The vehicle model is designed with a compact body and square back, which is commonly used in small vehicles with high maneuverability requirements. The simulations are conducted at three different air velocity levels: 10, 20, and 30 m/s. The results of the study showed an increase in the value of the drag coefficient (Cd) along with an increase in flow velocity. At a velocity of 10 m/s, the Cd value was recorded at 0.4536. When the velocity increased to 20 m/s, the drag coefficient increased slightly to 0.4563. Further increases in velocity to 30 m/s resulted in a Cd value of 0.4581. This Cd value shows the consistency of aerodynamic performance with increasing velocity, with fluctuations that remain within the efficiency limits of lightweight vehicles. The pressure distribution contour shows high-pressure accumulation at the front and low pressure at the rear of the vehicle, which generates large turbulent wakes in the rear area and contributes to increased drag. These findings indicate that the square rear body design faces significant aerodynamic challenges. Therefore, design strategies such as adding a rear spoiler, using a rear diffuser, and optimizing the rear body angle are suggested as potential solutions to improve flow efficiency.

Abstract

SMK N 1 Kepulauan mentawai merupakan satu-satunya SMK yang berada di pulau Sipora kepulauan Mentawai. Berdiri sejak 2014 tidak menjadikan sekolah ini tumbuh baik dengan sarana dan prasarana yang menunjang PBM. Meskipun sudah 6 tahun berdiri tapi pergerakan sekolah ini masih jauh dari harapan. Keterbatasan peralatan praktikum, rendahnya penegakan disiplin di lingkungan sekolah sampai kepada keterbatasan pasokan listrik yang hidup terkadang hanya 3 - 4 jam dalam sehari. Kondisi permasalahan ini secara langsung berdampak kepada lemahnya peminat calon siswa baru untuk bersekolah di SMK N 1 Kepulauan Mentawai.Melalui kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini, pengusul menargetkan pembuatan simulator kelistrikan sepeda motor sebagai media pembelajaran pada mata pelajaran kelistrikan sepeda motor. Penggunaan simulator dalam PBM memudahkan siswa memahami wiring kelistrikan dan peserta juga bisa langsung melakukan praktik perangkaian system kelistrikan serta melakukan trouble shooting (analisa kerusakan) pada system kelistrikan sepeda motor. Dalam jangka pendek pengusul menargetkan PBM menggunakan simulator ini mampu meningkatkan pemahaman/kompetensi siswa dan dalam jangka panjang kondisi ini diharapkan mampu menarik minat calon siswa baru untuk sekolah di SMK N 1 Kepulauan Mentawai dikarenakan sudah membaiknya ketersediaan peralatan praktik yang dimiliki sekolah.Dari hasil evaluasi pada fase post test diperoleh peningkatan pengetahuan dan kompetensi siswa terkait materi system kelistrikan sebesar 15-20%. Pengusul yakin jika metode praktik ini mampu dipertahankan maka akan sangat berdampak terhadap peningkatan kompetensi siswa secara keseluruhan.

Abstract

One of the mandatory criteria for SMK graduates is to have a competency renewal value. Competence values that lack novelty will be unable to compete in the current era of rapid technological development. The school has a big role in designing learning that has new value. To achieve this, the school must move quickly to present collaborative programs, training with other agencies that do have professionalism in their fields.The problems experienced by Vocational High Schools above are one of the responsibilities of lecturers as educators, wherefrom the threefold missions of Higher Education that must be implemented there are points of community service. The lecturer profession is obliged to do community service related to the problems that arise around it. Based on the problems experienced by Vocational Schools at the initial point, our community service team from the Automotive Engineering Department through LP2M UNP tried to cooperate with schools in presenting new competencies. This activity is in the form of Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) fuel system training for students of SMK N 2 Payakumbuh.From the evaluation results, it was found that students' understanding of the fuel injection system (EFI) material increased with an average increase in understanding of 12-18%. The author believes that if this is continued consistently, it can have an impact on improving the quality of PBM in SMK N 2 Payakumbuh.
