Abstract

Ductile materials are often used in industry. Apart from its affordable price, its ductile and flexible properties make it easy to shape and apply in the structural industry. It is not uncommon for these materials to be chosen for their high utility. However, each ductile material has its own characteristics that differ from one material to another, ductile material means a material that has the ability to be forged or stretched due to its high level of flexibility. You can use tensile tests and bending tests. This tensile test and bending test aims to determine the hardness and ductility of ductile materials. The ductile materials used in this study are aluminum and brass. The tensile test is carried out using a UTM machine using 3 test pieces that have the same shape and size for each material. The first material is aluminum. The tensile test results on aluminum material obtained an average of 355.78 N/mm2. Meanwhile, the tensile test on brass material obtained an average of 442.28 N/mm2. Furthermore, for bending tests on aluminum and brass materials. This test uses the three point bending method and with 3 test objects of the same shape and size. The results of bending tests on aluminum material obtained an average of 1,562.961 N/mm2. As for the brass material, the average bending test value is 2,466.664 N/mm2. So it can be concluded that the tensile test

Abstract

In the midst of the Industrial 4.0 era, there is an escalating demand for competent and highly skilled labor in the manufacturing and construction sectors, making this need increasingly urgent. Welding technology, as a crucial expertise in these fields, necessitates high-quality vocational education to produce competent labor. SMK Negeri 1 Guguk focuses on providing welding engineering education in accordance with industry standards. This study aims to analyze the adequacy of the welding engineering practicum facilities at SMKN 1 Guguk with prevailing competency standards. The method employed is a mixed-method approach combining qualitative and quantitative techniques, including surveys, interviews, documentation, and observations. The results indicate that while certain aspects of the practicum facilities, such as educational media and equipment, comply with the standards outlined in Permendikbud Number 34 of 2018, there are significant deficiencies in the infrastructure, facilities, furniture, and practical tools. The identified challenges include budget constraints, lack of equipment maintenance, and inadequacies in providing the latest technology. This study recommends enhancing practicum facilities, integrating the latest technologies, and improving equipment maintenance methods. These recommendations are anticipated to support the development of student competencies and enhance their readiness for the global labor market. Furthermore, the findings of this study are expected to impact vocational education broadly and contribute to the literature in the field of welding engineering vocational education, thereby creating a more prepared and highly competitive workforce.

Abstract

A person who is involved in the learning process regularly because of pleasure without external pressure is said to have an interest in learning. This interest is a relatively constant and enduring disposition, usually focused on one particular activity such as computers, science, athletics, music, or dancing. Based on observations during the Field Experience Practice (PPL), number of problems were found related to student interest in SMAW subjects. Some of these problems include student disinterest due to the use of less than optimal learning media and lecture methods that make students bored, fall asleep, or lose focus. Some students even refuse to complete the assigned tasks, indicating low interest in learning. Because interest in learning has a major influence on learning outcomes, it is important for students to understand school standards. This study uses a quantitative method to investigate the relationship between interest in learning and learning outcomes. This study collected and analyzed data using SPSS software. Subjects of the study were 25 grade XI Las students, and the independent variable was interest in learning as measured through the use of the Welducation application. The results of the analysis show that the average value of students' learning interest is 131.40 with a standard deviation of 15.047. Meanwhile, the average value of students' learning outcomes is 86.32 with a standard deviation of 0.985. The results of the hypothesis test show a significant relationship between learning interest and learning outcomes with a correlation coefficient of 0.899 and a significance value of 0.000.

Abstract

Recycling is the process of converting used materials into new materials with the aim of preventing waste that can actually be useful, reducing the use of new raw materials, reducing energy use, reducing pollution, land damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the most optimal pouring temperature to produce the best casting of the physical and mechanical properties of recycled aluminum material added with degasser powder. The urgency of this study is as a research material in the field of materials. This research method is to make 3 variations of melting temperature before pouring into the mold, the temperature variations used are 6750-7000C, 7000-7250C and 7250-7500C. At any temperature variation before pouring into the mold, degasser powder is also added to help clean the molten metal from the gases trapped in the molten metal. After the sample is molded, the results are visually observed, then a specimen is made to test the mechanical properties of the used aluminum casting. The data from the test results show that there is a fairly large porosity value in each variation. The hardness value of the test results shows that it is directly proportional to the temperature variation. At a temperature of 7250-7500C the average hardness value is 98.5 HVN. While the tensile strength at a temperature of 7250-7500C value is 83.58 Mpa, at a temperature of 7000-7250C = 74.39 Mpa and at a temperature of 6750-7000C = 71.5 Mpa. Thus the most optimal temperature in this used aluminum casting is 7250-7500C.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the ability of D3 Mechanical Engineering students in evaluating the quality of welded joints, because the welding results that appear unified are not necessarily free from surface defects. This study aims to analyze the types of welding defects in low carbon steel Shielded Metal Arc Welding  joints using Visual Inspection and Liquid Penetrant Test as the basis for welding quality control in vocational learning. The study used a quantitative descriptive design based on applied laboratories involving 48 D3 Mechanical Engineering students divided into three learning sessions. Each student produced one welded joint specimen, so that the total number of specimens analyzed was 48. Data were collected through visual inspection sheets, Liquid Penetrant Test result sheets, photo documentation, and recapitulation of welding defects, then analyzed using frequency, percentage, and technical interpretation of the causes of defects. The results showed that the most dominant defects were porosity with 17 specimens (35.42%), followed by undercut with 14 specimens (29.17%), excessive spatter with 12 specimens (25.00%), and irregular bead with 11 specimens (22.92%). Liquid Penetrant Test detected 64 defect indications, higher than Visual Inspection which detected 49 defect indications. From the quality category, 24 specimens were accepted, 18 required repair, and 6 were rejected. This study concluded that the combination of Visual Inspection and Liquid Penetrant Test is effective for identifying welding defects more comprehensively and can be the basis for quality control of welding learning that is more objective, systematic, and relevant to industrial needs.

Abstract

Stainless steel 304 (SUS 304) is widely used for food containers because of its corrosion resistance and suitability for food-contact applications. However, the occurrence of denting, wrinkling, and permanent deformation in some products suggests possible variations in material quality and mechanical performance. This study compared the chemical composition and mechanical properties of two types of SUS 304 food containers, designated Type 1 and Type 2. Chemical composition was determined using optical emission spectroscopy, while mechanical properties were evaluated through tensile testing in accordance with ASTM E8/E8M and deflection testing using the three-point bending method. The evaluated parameters comprised yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, elongation, maximum force, deflection modulus, and deflection strength. Chemical analysis confirmed that all specimens satisfied the compositional requirements for stainless steel 304 specified in ASTM A240. The mechanical test results showed that Type 1 specimens had greater tensile strength than Type 2 specimens. Type 1 also exhibited higher deflection modulus and deflection strength, although Type 2 recorded a slightly higher average maximum force. These findings indicate that Type 1 food containers possess greater stiffness and resistance to deformation and therefore demonstrate superior overall mechanical quality compared with Type 2 products. The study provides an evidence-based framework for evaluating material performance and strengthening quality-control procedures for SUS 304 food containers.
