Abstract

Students in Islamic schools often experience academic stress due to the demands of studying general subjects and religious subjects. Self-regulated learning and student engagement are important to help students manage stress and optimize learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to test the indirect effect of student engagement in mediating self-regulated learning on academic stress in students. This study used a saturated sample of 154 students who were analyzed quantitatively by testing the outer model and inner model with the SmartPLS application. The measuring instruments used were a modification of the Student-Life Stress Inventory (SLSI) scale (α = 0.989), a modification of the Student Engagement in School Questionnaire (SESQ) scale (α = 0.983), and a modification of the Assessing Academic Self-Regulated Learning scale (α = 0.988). The results of the inner model analysis showed that self-regulated learning had a significant effect on academic stress (β = 0.026; T = 2.239; P = 0.026), and student engagement entered as a mediator of the effect of self-regulated learning on academic stress remained significant (β = 0.023; T = 2.617; P = 0.009), which means it mediates partially. The R-Square results of self-regulated learning together with student engagement on academic stress showed a value of 0.994, which means that 99.4% of self-regulated learning and student engagement affect academic stress. The implication for Islamic schools is the importance of increasing self-regulated learning and student engagement to help students reduce academic stress by implementing student-centered learning strategies.

Modern organizations seek employees who not only exhibit job-related behaviors but also engage in extra-role behaviors, which are voluntary actions performed by employees beyond their formal duties to advance the organization. This study aims to examine the effects of organizational commitment and religiosity on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among employees of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) in Purwokerto. This study employed simple random sampling to select a sample of 138 employees from the Satpol PP in Purwokerto, Central Java. Three measurement scales were used in the research: organizational citizenship behavior, organizational commitment, and religiosity scales, all modified from existing aspects of each variable. The reliability tests yielded Cronbach's alpha values of 0.887 for the OCB scale, 0.820 for the organizational commitment scale, and 0.800 for the religiosity scale. The statistical analysis results showed a significant effect, with F-value = 124.083, t-value = 7.772, and significance (p) = 0.000 (p 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R-square) was 0.648, indicating that organizational commitment and religiosity contribute effectively by 64.8% to organizational citizenship behavior. In comparison, the remaining 35.2% is affected by other factors not examined in this study.

Abstract

Recently, the role of spirituality in the workplace has gained notable interest. This paper explores how career commitment mediates the impact of Islamic workplace spirituality dimensions (taqarrub, muraqabah, and istiqamah) on subjective career success among Muslim teachers in Indonesia. This study tested hypotheses using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on data from 200 respondents (38 male, 162 female) gathered through accidental sampling. The instruments used include the Commitment Career Measure (CCM) to assess career commitment (α = 0.857–0.904), Islamic Workplace Spirituality (IWS) to measure spirituality (α = 0.822–0.836), and the Subjective Career Success Inventory (SCSI) to measure career success (α = 0.891–0.911). All instruments showed good convergent validity (AVE > 0.50) and discriminant validity (Fornell-Larcker and HTMT criteria). The results indicate that career commitment plays a mediating role between Islamic workplace spirituality, particularly istiqamah and taqarub, and subjective career success. Career commitment has a significant positive impact on career success. Both istiqamah and taqarub positively influence career commitment, which in turn enhances career success. However, muraaqabah does not significantly affect career commitment or career success. The indirect influences of istiqamah and taqarub through career commitment are also significant, while muraaqabah's indirect effect is not. The study indicates that Islamic spiritual practices in the workplace can increase commitment and success among Muslim educators. Supporting these practices can help teachers perform better and feel more satisfied with their careers. This is crucial for educational leaders and policymakers to create better school environments.
