Abstract

The use of radio frequency identification (RFID) for gateless highway toll ticketing system is expected to have an excellent accuracy in detecting every passing car. Practically, a RFID reader should be able to precisely read tags installed in cars queuing in a certain lane, while avoiding any reading of car tags in other queuing lanes or outside the reader’s reading range. Therefore, a microstrip antenna for the reader is required to have a proper configuration. In this work, an RFID reader antenna microstrip, has been proposed, operating at 915 MHz and deployable at highway gates. The proposed beam width is intentionally configured to cover the width of one gate lanes, avoiding excessive coverages on other lanes. Besides, the antenna is intended to have a circular polarization, hence avoiding any reading problem despite potential tilting of RFID tag in a passing car. The resulting gain is 1.77 dB, which is expected to affect the amount of transmitting power required by an RFID transmitter. Looking at the result of this study, the proposed antenna is stated to be applicable for RFID readers at gateless highway system.

Abstract

Ultra-wideband radar has been widely used for various purposes, including detection of human vital signs, small displacement detection, and ground penetrating radar. In order to work properly, it requires an antenna with a wide bandwidth. This study reports an investigation of a bandwidth enhancement method by combining the U-shaped microstrip patch antenna with the Defect Ground Structure (DGS). In this research, the antennas are operated at 5.8 GHz. The results show the combination of U-shaped patch and DGS produce twice bandwidth performance compared to the one without DGS. In our study the diamond shape DGS gives the best performance among various DGS structures.

Abstract

Abstract The implementation of digital TV in Indonesia has been started since 2012 until the time of execution of Analog Switch Off (ASO) where analog TV in Indonesia is not used anymore. The Government has issued Regulation of Minister of Kominfo No.32 of 2013 on Organizing Digital Television Broadcasting and Multiplexing Broadcasting Through Terrestrial System. Where in Indonesia will be established DVB-T2 technology that is based on free-to-air broadcasting. The television transmitter system consists of exciter, driver, HPA (High Power Amplifier), and antenna. To obtain the desired level of transmit power, an amplifier is needed to amplify the output signal from the exciter before it is transmitted by the antenna. However, the output signal from the exciter cannot be directly amplified by the HPA because the signal level is too small, so it requires several levels of gain to achieve maximum output power. In order to maintain the quality of the transmission device, the power amplifier needs temperature control because the RF power amplifier transistor is very susceptible to damage at high temperatures. In this final project will be designed and realized HPA (High Power Amplifier) which will be used in UHF frequency range (Ultra High Frequency). HPA is the final level amplifier that determines the overall output power of RF (Radio Frequency) which will then be connected to the transmitting antenna. The result of HPA design and realization on DVB-T2 standard can work on 470-690 MHz frequency with 7-15 dB used gain, efficiency is 25% at bandwidth 220 MHz and which will be realized using FR 4 with 𝜀𝑟 is 4.7. Keywords: High Power Amplifier, DVB-T2.

Abstract

Aircraft traffic monitoring is an important part in increasing flight security. Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) is used to run this task. The authority usually uses ground-based ADS-B signal receiver to monitor the aircraft traffic. However, this system is unable to detect the aircraft position when it is in a remote area. -based ADS-B can be the solution to this problem with the increase in the surveillance coverage by installing the ADS-B receiver system on a satellite platform such a . To enable this system, a high gain antenna is needed. This paper investigated a superstrate multilayer microstrip antenna as a candidate for this technology. The multilayer substrate and superstrate structure were combined with a microstrip antenna to achieve a high gain performance without increasing the antenna dimension significantly. The multilayer method produced 4.327 dBi of antenna gain and it was rising into 4.946 dBi after being integrated with the superstrate layer by a computer simulation. The fabricated antenna gain was 4.505 dBi which was still considerably high compared to the other previous works. This antenna was designed by following the CubeSat form factor standard so it can be installed into the spacecraft easily.

Abstract

Monitoring of glucose levels in the blood often using invasive methods. Blood sampling requires the puncture of a needle on the skin which is used for periodic blood tests over a period of time as a monitor for glucose levels in the blood. This method causes pain, discomfort, and has a risk of irritation/infection. Measurements will be made on three concentrations of glucose, namely hypoglycemia, normal glucose, and hyperglycemia. This technique is based on the relationship of permittivity, and the conductivity of the skin associated with glucose levels in the blood. A narrowband microstrip antenna that works at a frequency of 1,27 GHz. From the measurement results on the tested antenna, it can work at a frequency of 1,27 GHz in off-body and on-body conditions. After simulating the antenna with three glucose concentrations, an analysis was obtained, namely the smaller the Return Loss and VSWR values, the greater the concentration of glucose in the blood. Keywords: antenna, microstrip, glucose, blood glucose level (BGL), narrowband
