Abstract

System Dynamics serves as an approach to unravel behavioral patterns by exploring fundamental structures. In this study, the dynamic system was crafted using STELLA software. The research methodology involved conducting primary surveys with both farmers and conversion farmers' households to gather essential data on their perspectives, practices, and circumstances related to land conversion and food security. Through this data, the System Dynamic model was constructed to depict the interplay among key variables impacting food security, specifically focusing on Food Availability, Affordability, and Needs. The analysis revealed that the Food Affordability indicator consistently played a pivotal role in shaping these trends over the analyzed years. However, a significant discrepancy in food security levels emerged between farming and non-farming households. This divergence primarily stemmed from income inequalities within the agricultural sector, affecting the purchasing power for essential foods like rice across the village. Additionally, a concerning trend of diminishing agricultural land and a subsequent decline in food availability was observed.

Abstract

Puntius binotatus Wader fish in the Brantas River Basin, East Java has an important position for society and the environment, so it is important to make an effort to maintain its sustainability, one of which is through Domestication. This study aims to further examine whether the domestication of Puntius binotatus Wader fish is feasible as an alternative farming business for the community in the Brantas River Basin, East Java. The feasibility analysis of Puntius binotatus Wader fish domestication was carried out by analyzing the market, technical, management, social, and environmental aspects first before conducting a financial analysis. The results of the analysis show that the market share of Wader fish seeds where the demand for seeds is greater than the existing supply. Technically, there are no obstacles or problems that hinder the running of the business. Domestication implementers can run their businesses because they already have a fairly good organizational structure. Social and environmental analysis shows that the Wader Cakul fish seed business (Puntius binotatus) is very feasible to run because it has a positive impact on society and maintains the sustainability of the surrounding natural environment. Financially, the Wader Cakul (Puntius binotatus) fish breeding business at UPT PBAT Umbulan obtained an NPV value greater than zero, which is Rp109,256,722. Net B/C is greater than one, which is 2.35. The IRR value obtained from the financial analysis of the Wader Cakul (Puntius binotatus) fish farming business is 30.16 percent, where the IRR value is greater than the applicable discount rate of 4.75 percent, which means that the Wader Cakul (Puntius binotatus) fish farming business is financially feasible to be implemented

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the land conversion rate and household food security in Bakalan Village, Pasuruan Regency. Data was collected through primary surveys, including detailed observations of land conversion and structured interviews with various residents, including ordinary households, farmer households, and farmer households with land conversion. The research employed quantitative methods to analyze the rate of land conversion and its implications on food security. Specifically, the study quantified the extent of land conversion and evaluated household food security using indicators such as food expenditure and energy consumption ratios. The findings revealed a substantial % land conversion rate of 50% between 2020 and 2021. This conversion was predominantly economically motivated, largely due to the influx of industrial development in the area. Significantly, converting land use from agriculture to industrial areas profoundly affected food security. The study found that overall food security in the village was compromised, with most households consuming less than the standard of 114.6 kg per person per year. This below-standard consumption was directly linked to energy deficiencies among the population. The results of this study underscore the urgent need for policy interventions that balance economic development with food security and sustainability. This research contributes to the broader discourse on land use planning and its critical implications for agricultural productivity and food security. These findings also provide valuable insights for policymakers, suggesting that development strategies should include provisions for safeguarding and enhancing food security in regions undergoing rapid industrialization. This study sets a foundation for future research in agricultural economics by illustrating the intricate connections between land use dynamics and food security outcomes. Keywords: agricultural economics, household food security, industrial development, land conversion rate

Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural uses presents significant challenges to food security, environmental sustainability, and economic progress in Bakalan Village. Food security categories for Bakalan Village conversion farmer families are assessed in this study using System Dynamic and Land Conversion Rate Analysis. A causal loop diagram illustrates the complex relationships between land conversion, food availability, affordability, and needs, crucial for understanding food security dynamics. Higher land conversion rates negatively impact food availability, risking local food security. System Dynamic integrates agricultural and non-agricultural income sources to model food affordability, a key food security determinant. Annual iterations capture fluctuations in land use, income, and food indicators, revealing the evolving impact on food security. This research emphasizes the need for sustainable land use practices, incentivizing land preservation, and promoting diversified incomes to ensure food security, environmental resilience, and socio-economic stability in Bakalan Village and similar agricultural communities globally. Adaptive policies informed by such models are essential for addressing these multifaceted challenges effectively.

Abstract

The designation of Sustainable Agricultural Land is a strategic initiative to counter rampant land conversion and soil degradation while supporting regional food security, particularly in West Nusa Tenggara Province, which relies heavily on its agricultural sector. This study aims to analyze the spatial suitability of Sustainable Agricultural areas based on biophysical conditions and the prevailing spatial planning policy. The analysis was conducted using Geographic Information System tools (ArcGIS Pro and QGis) with a spatial overlay approach, integrating land capacity indices, satellite-derived land use data, and biophysical parameters (e.g., slopes, soli type) alongside the spatial planning pattern map. The results show that most of the designated sustainable agricultural areas are aligned with agricultural land suitability parameters and contribute to regional food security objectives. The allocation of 282,062 hectares of sustainable agricultural area in West Nusa Tenggara Province was established through consensus between the provincial and municipal governments, as formally stipulated in Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2024. This policy not only provides a legal framework for protecting agricultural land from land use conversion but also serves as an integrative instrument for sustainable cross-sectoral development planning.
