Abstract

This article examines Aksi Kamisan (Thursday Action) in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, as a contemporary practice of resistance against state-enforced historical amnesia in Indonesia. It addresses the question of how literary traditions of dissent are transmitted and transformed into resources for collective political action. The central thesis is that Indonesia’s Sastra Perlawanan (Literature of Resistance) functions as a lumbung makna, a metaphorical “commons of meaning,” that is actively stewarded, or “commoned,” by social movements. Through an ethnographic case study, this research analyzes the mechanisms by which the literary “archive” is translated into an embodied “repertoire” of political protest. Drawing on an integrated theoretical framework that includes Foucault’s “regime of truth,” Ostrom’s work on the commons, Taylor’s concept of the repertoire, and Hardt and Negri’s theory of the multitude, the study finds that the silent weekly vigil is a performative act of counter-discourse. This act not only challenges the state’s monopoly on historical narratives but also demonstrates how a shared cultural inheritance of resistance is collectively sustained and reactivated. The article concludes that Aksi Kamisan offers a compelling model for understanding the contemporary political efficacy of literature, where cultural memory becomes a vital, living resource for grassroots movements demanding justice and accountability.

Abstract

This study attempts to analyze the portrayal of the Mumbai attacks and the contradiction points in the Hotel Mumbai film. This film is made based on the true events of the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008. Related to these huge events, there are a lot of historical books that have covered the Mumbai terrorist attacks. The study aims to find the contradictive representation of the film based on the official history. This research was conducted by using a descriptive method and qualitative approach. In this research, the researcher took data from conversations of characters and the framing of mise-en-scene in the film. This study is conducted by applying a new historicism approach and intrinsic elements of literature, the researcher compares the official history and the film. Through the new historicism approach, the researcher discovers that the Hotel Mumbai film places a lot of differences. First, there is a difference regarding the characters positioning, Arjun’s character in the film is the amalgam of the real story of Karambir Kang and Amit Pashave. Second, there is a difference in the narrative structure of Zahra – Seyfi & Meltem in which Zahra’s character was not killed because she said two sentences of creed. While, as what is told in the historical record, there was a Turkish couple named Seyfi and Maltem Muezzinoglu who were held as hostages and witnessed the murder of another hostage but they were not killed by the terrorist because they prayed in Arabic loudly. Third, there is a very clear difference between the setting of place and time. The report Mumbai terrorist attacks in history happened in six places and lasted for four days, meanwhile, the portrayal in the film happened in three places and lasted for a day. Lastly, this film has picked up the narrative elements to show what has not been known by the public only by reading the official version of history. The goal is to show that a historical-based film can be aimed to gain equal representation of historical narratives from a different point of view.

Abstract

This research analyzes the stages and psychological effects of child grooming in Priscilla (2023), which portrays an unequal relationship between a minor and an adult public figure. The film depicts grooming through emotional manipulation rather than explicit abuse. As an autobiographical adaptation of Priscilla Presley’s life, it centers the victim rather than the perpetrator. The study employs McAlinden’s theory of child grooming, the grooming stages model by Winters, Jeglic, and Kaylor, and Elliot and Briere’s indicators of psychological effects. Using a qualitative method and Wellek and Warren’s psychological approach to literature, the analysis applies Petrie and Boggs’ framework of conflict and characterization in film. The findings identify five manipulation stages, which are victim selection, gaining access and isolating a child, trust development, desensitization to sexual content and physical contact, and maintenance following the abuse, and six psychological effects, which are anxiety, depression, dissociation, sexual problems, sleep disturbance, and post-traumatic symptoms. These findings appear through both internal and external conflicts, with internal conflict being the most dominant. Characterization reveals Priscilla’s passivity, emotional fragility, and dependency on Elvis. This study demonstrates that film, as a form of literary work, can represent the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive consequences of child grooming through its intrinsic elements of conflict and characterization.

Abstract

This study is among the first to analyze agency through clause-level transitivity in Swift’s lyrics. This study applies a feminist stylistic framework, supported by Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), to analyze lyrics from her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, as a counter-narrative resisting patriarchal master plots. The analysis comprised three stages: clause segmentation and coding, discovery of linguistic patterns via quantitative and qualitative methods, and interpretation of these patterns to elucidate themes of agency and identity. The findings demonstrate that agency is constructed through a strategic foregrounding of the Actor in material processes, reframing identity in articulated cognition through mental processes, and introspecting the external constraints through mental processes. These techniques are central to the making of counter narrative and underscore Swift's innovative reassertion of discursive authority. The developed self-narrative is contesting gendered power dynamics and affirming epistemic independence. Findings advance feminist stylistics by showing how linguistic form becomes a locus of resistance.

Abstract

Abstract: This community service activity aims to bridge the gap between the high appreciation of poetry and the technical ability of music composition among non-professional musicians and students. The method used was a music concert and workshop over three days in Cibenda Village, West Java. The target group included high school students without a formal music education background. The implementation stages included the presentation of basic material on songwriting, understanding the relationship between text and music, mentoring group work practices, and presentations of work. The results of the activity showed that the practical approach successfully synergized literary appreciation with technical musical skills. Participants were able to understand the structure of popular songs, chord progressions, and scales, and translate the emotional character of poetry into musical compositions. The tangible output of this workshop was the creation of complete musical works by each group, the building of self-confidence and motivation for music creation among participants, and the formation of the embryo of a sustainable music learning community as a medium for creative expression. Abstract

Environmental crises are increasingly mediated through global media platforms, shaping public perception and ecological awareness. National Geographic, as a prominent environmental outlet, plays a key role in constructing narratives around ecological issues. However, the linguistic strategies it employs—particularly evaluative language—remain underexplored. This study aims to investigate the evaluation of LA Wildfire in National Geographic Magazine through an ecolinguistic framework. The study is designed as qualitative research with a content analysis approach, which analyzed four articles discussing LA Wildfire 2025 in the National Geographic Magazine in the Environmental Section. The analysis focuses on appraisal patterns which cover three aspects: attitude, engagement, and graduation where each aspects has their sub categories which makes this analysis detailed.  The findings reveal a dominant use of appreciation and judgment to evoke urgency and moral responsibility, while affect is comparatively minimized. Salience patterns foreground scientific authority and global impact, often marginalizing local ecological voices. Metaphors such as “tipping point” and “planetary fever” reinforce crisis framing but risk oversimplifying complex ecological dynamics. This study contributes to ecolinguistics by demonstrating how evaluative language in environmental media can both amplify ecological concern and obscure systemic causes, highlighting the need for more reflexive and inclusive environmental storytelling.
